Any word of if the game supports dual classing? i.e. Mage/ Warrior?
I doubt it would without the D&D elements and the lack of support for that in the backstory.

It does not.
EDIT: However, you may take a look at some of the specializations to see if they might give a partial feel for something similar (Arcane Warrior and Templar both spring to mind).

For my first character, a city elf rogue, I'm thinking probably assassin and dual-wielding. No clue for a secondary specialisation yet, and I'm not sure what weapons. Daggers or possibly shortswords, I suppose. Dual-wielding large weapons has always struck me as a bit awkward.

Human Noble ---> 1h + shield, champion and templar
Dwarf Noble ---> Dual wield berserker
Human Mage ---> Arcane + Spirit
Dalish Elf Rogue --> Assassin + Duelist
Will create more chars later, but I want to complete the game with these ones first.

I'm definitely going as a mage first, with a combination of spirit healer + something else, as not to be forced to have Wynne in the party to perform heals.
Its an interesting dilemma, i have to have Morrigan in the party due to the shear awesomeness of her personality, as well as Alistair for the banter he provides.
That leaves one other spot for an npc companion, which will probably be Leliana for the obligatory lock-picking and trap disarming skills.
To have a well balanced party that would make it necessary for my spirit healer to balance the melee aspect of the party, probably with an Arcane Warrior, tho im not sure what type of armour and weapons are available to that specialization.

It's always a little hard to judge these things since we haven't seen how they work in-game yet. I plan for now is to play a City Elf rogue and go for the Duelist specialization. Actually playing will determine where this plan goes in reality.

Depends on how it goes in the game. First will be a Human/Noble Warrior/Champion, not sure on the 2d (hope I can stay away from Paladin).

Can anybody confirm this -->
I read somewhere (Yeah I forgot, but so many threads) that you indeed had two steps in specializing; at level 7 and 14. BUT what was implied was that you got two specialization points at level 7 and two more at 14, meaning that either you chose to partially start two specs (2 points in both or 3vs.1), OR max one.
Any news on that? how many total spec points available and at what level?

You get 2 specialization points, one at level 7 and one at level 14.
However, they are only used to unlock specializations. To be able to use the talents in a specialization tree, you must use the regular talent points that you get every level.

A Human Mage will be my first character.
Arcane Warrior / Something else, either Blood Mage or Spirit Healer.
Primal: Fire and Lightning lines
Spirit: Walking Bomb line, Mana Drain / Spell Might line
Entropy: Weakness line
Creation: 1 pip into healing

My first character is going to be a sword and shield warrior. Templar with my first specialization and likely a champion with my second specialization. Unique I know.

How many trees do we figure we'll be able to maximize with the number of talent points we'll get?

There's some debate as to how many talents we get per level. I suspect it's somewhat like ME where you get more on the lower levels because I've heard people say one talent point per level and I've heard people say two talent points per level.
