 So... Rangers are gone?

Well, there may be no purchase from me. Not saying it makes sense and I'm sure this sounds dumb to many, but that's the only class I ever play in any RPG. It's the only class I enjoy in RPGs.

Doesn't the Ranger specialization only give you the wolf/bear/spider summon in DA? Rogues still get to shoot bows which is what's typically associated with "rangers", unless i'm mistaken?

True. But the specs that are mentioned all seem very assassin-esque and not the woodsman/hunter that the Ranger represents. Like I said, it probably won't make sense to most  people - it's just how I'm wired. lol.

I'm not complaining though. Game looks good otherwise and I'm sure y'all will enjoy. And who know, maybe I'll purchase down the line, but I'm just not excited for it now really.

Yes, i'm not a big fan of the "stealth" specializations myself so to a degree i get what you mean. That said, there still seems to be the Duelist option for more straightforward combat so that's something that can be picked instead -- my "main" rogue was duelist + point in ranger for the wolf summon and while she was mostly melee-oriented i imagine with the bow/duelist setup and few points put into nature skill for the tracking etc... you can get a reasonable approximation of that archetype you enjoy Posted Image

And to be honest, the Ranger experience in Dragon Age Origins wasn't extremely rewarding to me. Felt like a solider/archer more so than a true Ranger.  Combination of the armor, skills, animations, dialog, etc.

Again, I wouldn't be on these forums if I didn't enjoy DAO so I'm not whining. I guess I had hopes that DA2's improvements would carry over and create a more Ranger-like experience.

Oh well.

Looks great Bioware, keep up the great work.

It never fails to amaze me how people will always find something to complain about.

Yeah you're right. How dare people make reasonable and respectful comments regarding how they feel about a $60 game made by a company that they've no doubt supported for over a decade. And on a FORUM! The nerve...

I doubt any of the skilled folks over at Bioware are crying over any comments made in a fair and reasonable manner.

Geez.

And now I have made up my mind with my first playthrough. Rogues sound even more fun this time around. I'm gonna miss my Bard, Ranger, and Legionaire specs, but I'm not heart broken. Though I'd like to hear a little explanation as to why BW chose those 3. Not complaining, just curious. :) I suspect I know why, but it wouldn't hurt to hear the official word.

Rogue ftw!

I'm trying to keep an open mind on having to switch from the Ranger - in what ways in particular do you think Rogues sound more fun this time out?

Just curious. Not trying to stir the pot.

Cool. A positive and info accurate preview.

And I doubt there'll just be three specializations per class, there is probably a fourth hidden in the game that you have to track down.

Shadow? Really? But glad to see Duelist back. Assassin was also nice. Well, it all depends on the perks, really.

Rogues better not be limited to only those weapons. I want swords.

I want blunt weapons.  Maces and hammers would be terrific.

I could care less about their lady Hawke's looks (okay, maybe I care a little).  I want to see her in action.

I want a trailer with Lady/Femme Hawke.  That is what I meant by "Bioware, do show us Lady Hawke..."

That music was just epic, especially at the end.

Not sure of Cassandra's new hairstyle, though...

Also, is there even a possiblity that Flemeth could be a party member?! Because it could be so badass if it were possible!!!

EDIT: Oops, wrong thread! The rogue details look awesome, too!Posted Image

Thanks!  Posted Image

Now, do you have one with a sexy gypsy guy running at her?  Posted Image

Also, am I the only one who thinks some of those fighting moves look way over-amped?  Wow.  Serious blood spatterage and killing of many spawn in one swing.

No, you're not the only one.

I think the combat animations look ridiculous.

Oh yeah, and the blood splatter...

But then again, anything would spew that much blood if someone's swinging a 2hander sword like that.

Hate to say it, but I miss the old 2hander speed. At least it was realistic.

If someone swung a 2H sword at me out of shape and untrained ass I would have kicked them in the balls twice by the time they even managed to get the blade up over their shoulders.

There are boxing and MMA matches that are over in less time than it took for 2H animations to complete in DA:O.

That's not to say DA:2 is taking a realistic approach by any means but... ugh, DA:O 2H animations made me wince.

Yeah, well, I like my immersion. Having my twohander warrior doing twisty-twirls with a ton of sharpened metal doesn't really appeal to me.
