You know, I think I'm liking the way combat looks. It just looks more exciting--you couldn't ever include combat in trailers for DAO except for the occasional shield bash because it was so slow. Since it's retaining its tactics, I have nothing to complain about--fun and intelligent.

That's another thing that I find really really odd around here. From what I've seen, it seems to me that a lot (a lot lot) of people have been mostly creating an idea of Varric's character within their own head with very very little of actual example and information to back it up. Maybe he really is like that. Then again, maybe he isn't. Once thing I did specifically notice in this trailer is one of his first lines in "what makes you think I know the truth." Perhaps "encouragable" isn't a word that's really going to fit with him except for the one instance we've seen with im exagerating.

As silly as I find your "fierce" stance on the issue of Dwarven accents, I agree completely regarding the Varric meme.  It's one of the reasons I only occasionally dip my toes in the crazy that goes on in that thread.  If I stick around there for long I feel like I'd either descend into a mad rage or join the cult of Varric.

Well it's not entirely in our heads. It's based mostly on what Mary Kirby says about him in the Varric thread(s).

Yep, my thoughts exactly. I'm actually not dreading long battle sequences this time around.

Anyways, yeah, trailer looks good.  While cinematic trailers like "Destiny" are interesting as a diversion, they've never acomplished exciting me about a game.  These are the types of videos that do.  Thanks for the release, continuing to look forward to DA2.

Well like I said, it doesn't seem all that creative to me. It doesn't strike me as originality. It's not new. I'd rather they had not used the names "dwarves" or "elves" at all. They could have made all new races like the qunari, or like in ME. That would have been awesome. What they did just irritates me every time it takes center stage in the story.

Wait, you mean, portraying the dwarves as more than drunk miners with Scottish accents isn't creative or original? Color me surprised. I'd say the Dragon Age dwarves are a definite spin on something that's been tried and tested in the fantasy genre.

Not entirely in your heads, no. Oddly enough you guys have managed to hit the nail on the head with very little evidence needed to back it up. Which is weird. You've probably still built Varric up to be something he isn't, but I guess we'll see. :)

No, taking something that already exists and doing it differently is not strictly original. In a big way it's rather unoriginal. But, if they had made "dwarves" almost exactly as they are now, but had named them something else enitrely that would have been original. In fact I doubt that there would have been much more than mild speculation that the race had only been inspired by dwarves, since they share almost nothing in common with what is usually termed as dwarves outside the height and penchant for living underground. They don't even have a penchant for facial more than the humans do.

Oh I'm confident I won't be disappointed. Personally my enjoyment of Varric as a character does not hinge on whether he might be an LI.

He can be my wingman. B)

This proves Carver did not die during the escape from Lothering!

Check out Carver's lack of sleeves and Isabela's massive cans.  Clearly, the man sacrificed his sleeves to make backup boob slings for her.

More evidence Carver is freakin' excellent.

Slapping a new name on something doesn't make it original, darling. Considering it was only a change of attitude and the addition of (actually interesting) lore, there were very few changes physically. They still look like dwarves, albeit more attractive ones. It'd be like taking a beat up old car, lobbing off a door, adding A/C and a spoiler, and calling it a luxury vehicle. It doesn't work like that.

Who says that in the Dragon Age universe dwarves either didn't at some point act like "dwarves" or might in the future? Same goes for elves.  Like Sten says it's not really good to pidgeonhole entire cultures.

I certainly don't look or act anything remotely like Normans or Britons from a thousand years ago, yet I'm still a (descendent of) European white guy.   Cultures aren't static.  Expecting them to act a certain why based on some concept of consistency or continuity is prejudicial.

Anyway, it's kind of off topic so I won't follow up on it here.

Except Tolkien didn't make dwarves.  Dwarves existed in various forms across cultures and many were not like Tolkien's dwarves.  Modern fantasy writers should no be limited into copying what Tolkien did if they want to make a fantasy world.  If you want Lord of the Rings Dwarves, read Tolkien again but don't bash someone for showing creativity.

So you are against using stock fantasy characters(elves, gnomes, dwarves, trolls, pixies, sprites, etc.)?  I am sorry but a fantasy game has the right to use a fantasy race as they see fit.  You have clearly made your own opinion of how they should be off of Tolkien and have problems seeing them in a different light.

Anyway, did I mention I like that crossbow?  I hadn't fallen for the Varric charm yet but that crossbow is seriously making me consider joining the cult of Varric.

That didn't actually make me jump around with Glee like it should of.

I loveeeee Cassandra's accent though. So..The pirate lady is Isabela. I wonder if she'll say anything about the threesome haha.

When will we see REAL gameplay?
