OK, so the Pirate Lady it would seem is Isabela. Is this indeed the same Isabela from Origins?

They look nothing at all even remotely alike:

Edit: Isabela from the toolset (ok, she at least doesn't look like a ginger here:)

Redesign?

The "Isabella" in the trailer looks darker than the image you posted.

She got the hot-rod samurai treatment from the BioWare institute of visual retcons.

Well, they look nothing alike due to her position as a useless NPC in Origins. If she is the same person, it's easy to say she'd receive a unique model for DA2. Should Isabella have a unique model in DA:O, you'd know she was more unique than simply an NPC you sleep with for the duelist class.

Or it could be a similar name, different person scenario but that's very unlikely considering the rules of gaming where there's only person with that name around the world.

Excepting the clothing differences, I really don't think she looks different enough to make her seem like a different character, without evening considering typical design changes between games. Just seems like a much improved Isabela to me! :)

Is this something new? I thought they had confirmed that the pirate lady was not Isabella and saying something to the effect of "not every pirate woman has to be Isabella and there's more than one pirate in Thedas"

Yes, this is the same Isabela. (Note the 1 "l" not 2 "ll"s as I was corrected by Sheryl to get the spelling right).

What? Have you ever known any woman ever not to change her hairstyle and outfit?

And skin color?

Not that I mind if she was supposed to be Rivaini in the first place, but its just odd for her to go from looking like a ginger in Origins to Rivaini in DA2.

Since we are now having the same conversation in multiple places (grumble), I'll repost what I said about Isabela in the other one:

We considered keeping her looking as she did, but considering she was a pretty minor character in DAO it seems a bit self-limiting to keep her with the same look when we could do amazing things with a redesign. I think she looks great (and she was always Rivaini and dark-skinned, as I recall the lighting in the Pearl just made it difficult to tell).

As for the voice, it's a different voice actress but she sounds much the same as she did.

I guess the question would be: why not make it a whole new character, then? I suppose it's because we like Isabela, and we like the story that her being that Isabela brings into the mix. At any rate, Sheryl did a pretty awesome job on her. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png[/smilie]

Character redesigns are great for giving more distinct looks. Origins was a little too generic.

I can tell you they're inconveniencing me right now. I suppose I ought to trust you, Sheryl, and attempt to ignore the silly pantslessness in favor of amazing writing.
