Oh yes. Because if you played DAO you would know that Isabela is a ****.

So...a threesome/foursome is reserved only for "****s"?
Give me a break.

Having sex with someone you just met is reserved for ****s. Or ****s at least.

This just in: Men judge first and foremost by sexual attraction. It's biological, no amount of feminist whining will change that. If you feel alienated in the gaming community it's your own fault.

And we get to mock you for being shallow horndogs with a one track mind.  It's a fair trade.  Image IPB

Sounds fine to me, as long as you can deal with the facts of life.

No? You don't see how calling women ugly wh*res is problematic in the least? And that you feel perfectly fine saying/agreeing with such things?

Fighting the good fight may not be worth your time in this case, sad to say. I think all the people with some awareness of 21st century gender issues are back in the Varric thread.

Yeah, of course. Because sleeping with your followers takes YEARS, right?

Lol, it's fascinating how so many men cannot see that they are not who gets to determine a woman's attractiveness or what she chooses to do with her body. If she were a man I am sure there would be no such ****-shaming or judging her solely based on her looks and tossing around of transphobic slurs. Whatever. I am out of here.

Yeah, fair warning, I'm going to start sending PMs to mods. Chances are that you're going to get the thread locked.

Also, responding to idiot's posts only makes them post more.

Well, BOO-HOO.
No sl*ts for you then.

There was no need to make her a full romance. If you encountered her in another tavern and pounded her along with your entire party again that would actually be pretty funny. But to try and make her into a companion that we would care about, especially in a romantic sense? Why?

I just don't see it, I thought she was one of the most unattractive characters in DA:O. Her face manages to look emmaciated while mainting comically overinflated lips.

I guess the lips don't stand out for me because prominent lips tend to be quite natural feature for black people, so given she's dark-skinned that results in appearance that isn't really unusual.

I come from a black family (I'm of african/hispanic mix) and that's not the case with us. But I do get where you're coming from. A lot of the female characters in teh original had oversized lips but Isabela's original lips were just way out of proportion to me.

On the other hand the redesigned Isabela has lips which are unnaturaly small and unusually small/narrow nose.

That I agree on. I don't think she's great looking yet still think that it is an improvement over the old.

and these combined sort of trigger the so-called uncanny valley reaction -- the brain can tell it's not a real human but at the same time the fidelity is too high to allow it to glance over the anatomy shortcomings.

Alright, the base facial anatomy of the original design was better in terms of realism I suppose. But I don't agree that it was more attractive.

We just have really different tastes.

And some people don't think her new face (while not perfect) is an improvement? Really?

I'll go out on the limb and admit that i actually prefer her initial appearance. Maybe because she's less airbrushed and more life-weary, which is pretty rare for a woman put into spotlight (unless these women are supposed to be at least 60 year old) She's also attractive yet not forcefully so.

The old face looks a bit too plastic - the new one looks more natural. :)

The good fight? Really? The modern feminist culture is nothing more than a joke. You wanted to vote, rightfully so, and you got it. You wanted job equality, rightfully so, and you got it. You wanted respect as an equal, rightfully so, and you got it.

But no, you still have the short side of the stick, thats why if you want an abortion you can get it regardless of what the father wants. Thats why you can claim discrimination whenever something doesn't go your way.

Ok, but what happens whenall of your choices are either "copy-pase shiny plates of metal" or "copy-paste drab brown leather?" Oh, and everyone looks the same in all of the options. Where is the customization in that?

It will depend on the player in question, of course. But someone may feel that having the companions look like every other person in the game (your character included) is actually preferable than having these companions be the few uniquely looking people in the entire world. In similar manner, just being able to actually decide whether companion wears the shiny plates of metal or drab brown leather can be very useful for the player, since it fits with their own individual vision of the character.

My point is, there's no real benefit in denying the player option to customize appearance of their companions. Since what is "unique", "interesting" or "fitting" ultimately boils down to individual tastes and there's no way for game to come up with designs that are able to meet all these tastes at once. This very thread is evidence of this, after all.

On a side note: I think DA2 Isabela is very pretty. I wonder what the people in here who call her ugly would imagine a "pretty" woman to look like. Someone's standards are a little too high, it seems.

I don't think she's ugly. I just don't have too much of an interest in seeing real life women in video games.

How about they give some male LI's that you think are fugly? Or have some particular feature that makes you go "... ew." What then?

...You're kidding me, right?

Well, I'm leaving. Continue tearing Isabela apart with such adjectives until the banhammer falls upon you, or the thread gets locked. Whatever happens first.

Yep, so goes the war. Personally I'm happy to see the unapologetically confident and self-actualized Isabela return. Especially if we get to hang out on her ship. (I'm on a boat!) And she's fairly adequately dressed, considering we live in the Age of Gaga. Dammit I want her shoes.

See you back in the Varric thread. <3

What I find fascinating is that women who act like wh*res get offended when they're called that. A sl*t or a wh*re is not a slur. It's a word that has a very specific meaning. If you want to sleep around with random men you met 2 minutes ago, by all means go ahead and do so. It certainly is your right. But then don't get offended when someone describes your behavior using appropriate words.

Well, then according to your argument there's no real benefit in allowing the player that option either. Since it's all just a matter of taste.

There's a small subset of as far as I've seen mostly male gamers who can be extremely puritan when it comes to their views of female characters. I knew one guy who swore that Yuna's redesign in FFX2 made her a ****. Even though she quite clearly wasn't due to how she was dressed.

Yes we are, and at least I'm not throwing a hissy fit because someone is daring to dislike a character I have a crush on, but because issues like this affect real life and I'm sick of this bullsh*t.

EDIT: Okay, now I'm gone :innocent:

Please restrict this topic to talking about Isabela as she relates to the Dragon Age franchise, and let's get off the increasingly offensive discussion about subjective opinions on what's acceptable re: sexual promiscuity and the like.

Isabela really stuck out in Origins, and I wondered if we'd see her again. I love her improved look, personally. I also have a hard time understanding the hate against her already. Yes, she had the option to have multiple partners at the same time, but what of it? Thedas isn't our world. There seem to be a lot more freedoms with sexuality than we actually have. It's far less limited. I don't really think I've encountered anyone in Origins I would degrade with name-calling based on their sexual experiences. Anyway, I'm excited about getting to know more about Isabela. I did like her brief appearance in DAO and I'm glad that we're getting more depth about her.

Edit: I'm sorry if that's off-topic, John! I noticed your post after submitting mine!
