You think she'll be the bi-option for romances? She was bisexual in Origins, but now that she's DA2's leading lady...
She's not a 'leading lady'. She is the first companion they've revealed that isnt related to Hawke.
Isabela? Really?

Okay, for all those people complaining about her looks, I have one question to ask.
What if Isabella is the way she is as a character because she was not born gorgeous and feminine and perfect looking in every way? What if her "man chin' and "bike pump inflated neck" is why she spurned the conventional life, became a bit of a tomboy pirate.
If every character was perfectly pretty, and aesthetically perfect, sure some of you may be thrilled, but wouldn't it get boring? Should there be at least some characters who didn't start off as the perfectly pretty chick but ended up being more beautiful because their little physical imperfections made them even more beautiful as PEOPLE?
I think we are too quick to judge aesthetics in a vacuum without realizing that looks have to be seen in the context of a Npc's character.
What if she just looked, you know, like she did when they FIRST showed her to us?
I don't care what she looks like, really - she's a video game character, you know - but, since they changed her look, and this is a thread to discuss that, I'm sharing my opinion that the new look is not an improvement. It seems I'm not alone in that opinion, although people are certainly free to disagree.

The win is strong in this one.
The thing about flawless perfection is how very dull it quickly gets. I'd sooner have variety and difference.

I definetly agree with the sentiment, but for me it comes down to simply liking the original design better. It wasn't drop dead gorgeous, but I still enjoyed it.Black_Tuesday wrote...

Especially since it wasn't denied by the writers, and in context where it would make sense to deny it if she was changed in this regard: http://social.biowar...04701/3#5105088Herr Uhl wrote...
Well, she quite clearly swung both ways in DAO, so I think that assumptions are valid.

No. Do you think people get bored at various attractive women (usually at night) to fuel their own endevours? Most use these games (as well as movies and television shows) as a way to overlook (or sometimes even escape) the compromises which they have had to (or eventually will) make in life; to ignore the dull and utterly interesting mediocre existence which they've settled for. If we want average and boring, well that's what the real world is for most of the time.
At any rate, this is an RPG. A ROLE PLAYING GAME. Hawke is not just some character who I've heard about. Hawke is me and I am Hawke. As Hawke, I'd prefer to be in the presence of relatively attractive women rather than this butter face whom we see in the trailer.

The original design was just far too generic for my liking, the 'new' Isabela is a vast improvement if you ask me.

And I'd probably say that the lighting in the Pearl is definitely something that would throw off perception of her hair and skin. I thought she was a red head, but looking at the toolset, she isn't.

To attempt to bring this back on topic. I wonder if her appearance crosses timelines with the events of DAO. Are we going to see her after her appearance in DAO?
There is a potential for continuity conflict, if she indeed flees Ferelden with Hawke & co more or less right after the destruction of Lothering. The Warden is likely to have completed a questline (meaning Lothering was destroyed) before ever going to Denerim and it is fully possible to not encounter her until you are in Denerim for the Landsmeet.
Pretty minor though.

Ha ha. I suppose it is possible we meet up with her 5-6 years after the events of the first game. That might explained the accelerated agiing. Maybe someone casts on spell on her that makes her age must faster and she has joined up with Hawke, hoping that he might lead her to a cure. If you succeed in the quest, Isabela returns to her attractive appearance and gives you a "reward."Morroian wrote...

I fully support having a redesign. She was just an NPC before so it's not like there was anything overly remarkable before. Plus, now she dresses like a pirate instead of a standard rogue who happens to be a pirate.
And I'd probably say that the lighting in the Pearl is definitely something that would throw off perception of her hair and skin. I thought she was a red head, but looking at the toolset, she isn't.
Are we really going to try to say that the lighting in the Pearl is what makes her seem like 2 entirely different women?
Really?
Personally, I'd prefer to stick with Bioware's explanation - they had a chance to change her, and took it. At least that's honest.
