But I actually think she looks very cool. She's got a latin vibe going on (muy caliente), THANK god for that finally. As a man of latin decent, gracias.

I heard she's supposed to be of Rivaini decent, and Rivain is I think based on Spain sooo I don't think the latin appearance is coincidental.Clovis- wrote...

Well, I recall the devs saying that they redesigned Isabela because she was a minor character in DAO and therefore they could get away with it without there being a mass uproar. I doubt they would do the same with major characters like Morrigan or Alistair.
Especially after they saw how smoothly we all accepted this minor change.

Am I the only who thinks she doesn't look THAT different from Origins? Obviously she wasn't going to look identical, what with the different art style and all, but considering I thought the pirate lady from the trailer was Isabela from the first time I saw her, I really can't agree with those who say she doesn't look anything like her model in Origins.
Though honestly, I probably couldn't even give a good description of what Isabela looks like if you asked me. She was a really minor character. If you pull out the face morph and study it I'm sure all sorts of differences will jump out at you, but it feels like much ado about nothing to me.
Sometimes actors change between films/seasons, or the way an artist draws changes (Example: before/after). It's not optimal, but it's nothing our Willing Suspension of Disbelief budget shouldn't be able to cover easily.

List 5 gorgeous female fantasy video game characters and I'll wager that you will get a wide wide variety of opinions as to whether they are gorgeous or not. Was there a gorgeous female love interest in DA1? Nope. Morrigan and Leliana were reasonably good looking, gorgeous? Not in my books.
That's why, as I posted earlier, female romances should be copied out of a Victoria's Secret catalogue. Yes there are some men out there that don't like that type, but the overwhelming majority do. That's why those magazines sell. There is a clear and prevalent standard of beauty in Western society, and there's no reason not to take advantage of that.
While the general, most widely accepted beauties with symmetrical and "mathematic" faces might be the most appealing visually to people, there are reasons for not making all female (and male) characters absolutely stunning in a traditional sense. For one thing, unusual faces are unique and have personality. Different facial features set the characters apart. They can be intriguing by raising questions about the personalities and backgrounds of the characters. As far as I understand, BioWare creates games that put an emphasis on the story and characters, and thus it makes sense that the looks of their characters are not simply made to please visually in the traditional sense. In addition, the uniqueness of the faces of the characters can and does make them beautiful to many.

This is my primary concern- that old characters from Origins like Alistair, Morrigan or whoever, show up only to have a face transplant, yet have the same voice coming out of some stranger's face. So sure, if you dressed up somebody with dark hair in a Chasind looking outfit and heard Claudia Black's voice coming out or a male guy with short hair in armor with Steve Valentine's voice, you could guess that they were Morrigan and Alistair. But face wise, you should be able to readily identify them without needing all the other cues.
I have no problem if they change up existing character's wardrobes or hair and such or give Drunken Alistair a shaggy beard, but if you played Origins for dozens of hours you should be able to readily identify iconic characters like those as being the same from Origins, based on how their faces look.
I completely understand what you mean. It's easy to make any model look like an older companion by simply dressing them similar.
I just don't think that will be the case with the more recognizable characters from Origins. Okay, so Isabela's facial structure does look somewhat different. It's understandable. Her role in Origins was tiny so retconning her really isn't that big of a deal.
I honestly don't think Bioware will do a massive facial surgery on any returning companions. Granted this could be me being positive and all.
I don't blame your for being concerned though. Let's just hope I'm right in this case.

I'd buy this if the round jaw was actually unique. I actually like it on femHawke and so it's kind of strange to see it on other female models. So it seems to be a general design theme for some weird reason, rather than a feature that's striking for uniqueness.BeyondFrozenTrees wrote...

The new Isabela's face looks odd to me, too. Pinched, somehow, I dunno. I didn't think DAO Isabela was very attractive, either, but it's like they went to extremes- very full lips and big eyes to small mouth and narrow eyes.

Morrigan, Leliana off the top of my head. Hell Miranda would be a pretty good example.

That wasn't a definition, those were examples, and my point by asking that was that there is no set standard for beauty. A person's perception of what is beautiful can be determined by there experiences, the culture they were born into, and even just personal taste, and what is considered beauty has changed over the centuries so "traditional" doesn't sound like a very appropriate word. Pale skin and extra weight used to be envied because they were a sign that someone was affluent enought that they did not have to work outside and that they ate well.Bruddajakka wrote...

In fact I would be tempted to ask for a patch or mod to change the old look into the new look... I like that Bioware didn't limit themselves in her new design.

I dunno... if she snags a few Lelianas I wouldn't really complain that much.
Don't get me wrong, I would pretend to complain, act all unwilling and such, and just eventually let myself be convinced with an "okay... but you owe me" line thrown in.

Hence why I act like I'm doing her a favor with the women... men are just too far over the line. Cash in that favor. She owes me, remember?

Indeed. There's always going to be a few people that complain, but judging from the overall response (and filtering out the ones that post on the subject over and over again) I'd say the response to Isabela has been quite positive.
There's more nit-picking over the particulars of her appearance, perhaps, but that's par for the course for a female love interest. If you looked too closely at the initial threads after Morrigan was first revealed, for instance, there was much railing against her giant lips, huge jaw, uncanny valley face, boyish figure, etc. etc., and you would have thought she was the ugliest thing to cross the internet. People like to be melodramatic, particularly about the inconsequential.
