Reminds me of Sayre's Law.
Sayre's Law states, in a formulation quoted by Charles Philip Issawi: "In any dispute the intensity of feeling is inversely proportional to the value of the stakes at issue." By way of corollary, it adds: "That is why academic politics are so bitter." Sayre's law is named after Wallace Stanley Sayre (1905-1972), U.S. political scientist and professor at Columbia University.

I imagine it has something to do with the plot.

I'm not surprised, actually. After what happened today with Isabela, expect to see a lot of complaining with the rest of the followers.
This is the internet, after all.

Her looks haven't changed that much (factoring in the new art style), and there's more to her than what she looks like. I doubt her character has been completely redesigned.

Thankfully we had the Toolset in order to fix these things about characters that some of us find unattractive. Since there is no guarantee that this will be an option for DA2, some people are a little more concerned that they may be stuck with having to use a character they find unattractive. Oh well, life goes on and all that rot.

It's a funny one. It comes up from time to time and I always want to quote it, but never enough that I actually remember what it's called. I have to search for "that one about people getting up in arms over nonsense."

Respectfully, it seems like the only thing that has been carried over from DA:O's Isabela is her name and occupation. Her clothes, skin color, facial structure and voice has been changed. It just makes me wonder why they felt the need to use a pre-existing character in the first place if they wanted to create an entirely new female pirate from scratch. It's just kind of...puzzling.Riona45 wrote...

Ha- no I remember that thread- people complaining about Morrigan's nose shadow. Haha- it did spawn some gems though, like ZZ Top Morrigan:

Or monocle Morrigan:

And after all, as of October 2008, when Origins was supposed to be out in March 09, Morrigan looked like this, minus Claudia Black too:

Really??? there were threads railling against Morrigan in the begining?? I liked her the very moment I saw her trailer and she was the reason why I bought Dragon age to begin with since it was my first Bioware game I played and even RPG since I don't know...zelda ocarina of time lol.
Anyway, I do like Isabella's look and that she'll be a possible love interest, and her fighting skills looks really cool, so no complains from my part.

I imagine you'll have to wait and witness what niche she ends up serving in the game's plotlines... perhaps it turns out that it is actually really important that it is the same Isabela.

Maybe during Hawke's flight from Lothering, he ends up in Denerim where one of the few ships that still haven't left port is Isabela.
Then Hawke has the opportunity to pass a Coercion check to initiate an orgy to earn passage to the Free Marches.

Well, this is subjective. Fair enough. *I* don't think she's changed that much (especially after seeing her face morph) and DA:O really only touches on what her personality and character is like, so for me, I don't think it's a big deal. Also, I like such a tie to the previous game, and with her being a sailor it at least makes sense.

Really? Did you play Dragon Age: Origins? 'Cause some of the faces in that game had me questioning whether or not they actually belonged to humans...cuzsal wrote...
her outfit looks cool, much more pirate like but man i think thats the ugliest face i have seen in dragon age
Heck, just look at Isabela's DAO incarnation for a good example. She was never exactly the most attractive looking lady.

I think it might be the camera angle on this shot. Some of the other shots of her are pretty attractive. In my opinion anyways.

We considered keeping her looking as she did, but considering she was a pretty minor character in DAO it seems a bit self-limiting to keep her with the same look when we could do amazing things with a redesign. I think she looks great (and she was always Rivaini and dark-skinned, as I recall the lighting in the Pearl just made it difficult to tell).
As for the voice, it's a different voice actress but she sounds much the same as she did.
I guess the question would be: why not make it a whole new character, then? I suppose it's because we like Isabela, and we like the story that her being that Isabela brings into the mix. At any rate, Sheryl did a pretty awesome job on her. ../../../images/forum/emoticons/smile.png

Sorry, but I find this ridiculous. Sure it's fun to go all toolset plastic surgery when characters look weird, but this is hardly the worst thing we could be stuck with. Especially considering how many console games (not just DAO) get played where you have to play with characters the way they are... I think we'll all survive. Ultimately what I care about is the story, and if I have to look at people I don't find to be perfect (as I do every day), I won't shed tears over it.
