Well, a lot of people here wanted to romance Bethany...I'd imagine romancing your sister isn't a far cry from your mom.
Lol, and I am not one of those so both are creepy to me

Alas, that is too much to be asked on a game forum, the Internet overall.
With the amount of info at hand what is there to discuss intelligently? All there is some tidbits from the devs and some screenshots and video.. Plus it's not like this thread in particular was about anything besides the retcon on Isabela's looks.. It didn't get taken over..
I don't dare tread into the Talimancer threads, I know what it's all about so I just ignore em, start a thread that intelligently discusses Isabela, this one is simply about Bioware's visual redesign.. *shrug*
More on topic, I just spent 5 mins redesigning Isabela as well, here's mine, god I'm bored..

Wow what happened to her face? Yikes, she looked fine in Origins, her face in this one looks really swolen and puffed up. Hardly that of the seductress she's supposed to be.....
On a positive note, LONGER AND BETTER LOOKING HAIR! THANK YOU GOD.

If i may suggest something... could you check the threads discussing individual characters revealed so far, but instead of the yay/nay tally focus on whether there's certain specific features of these characters that get mentioned more often than others?David Gaider wrote...
There's always going to be a few people that complain, but judging from the overall response (and filtering out the ones that post on the subject over and over again) I'd say the response to Isabela has been quite positive.
I'd guesstimate that you're bound to notice a common theme, and that's people pointing out these characters quite universally display exaggerated chins/jaws (which is a side effect of their noses being disproportionally small, and as result the lips being placed too high up, leaving too large area underneath)
Now, you'd likely point out that it's not something universally disliked, and quite a few people just opt to rib the characters for that feature in good-natured manner, some others also happen to like it. However, my question is this -- have you actually designed all these characters with this exact reaction in mind? In other words, was it intended to draw the players' attention to this particular detail?
Now, whether that's actually intended, a followup question arises -- do you consider it a positive that such generally minor and unimportant feature can apparently --due to being an oddity-- draw disproportionate amount of attention from the viewers? I mean, wouldn't you rather that attention to be given to the rest of your work which actually deserves it, and that is the world and character designs on the whole? As such, wouldn't the game be actually better off if these rough edges were polished to remove or at least reduce the uncanny valley reaction from people who get to see your work for the first time? With all due respect, have you considered that your opinion can be at this point skewed by prolonged exposure to these designs? You're a writer so i'm sure you're intimately familiar with this effect -- after spending long hours working with something, we grow to tune out details which are somewhat off, to the point where we no longer notice them. But for a fresh viewer these details stand out so much, it can leave them with mouth agape and scratching their head asking "how could anyone not see it? It's so obvious".Personally, I think she looks great
That is a curious argument, considering pretty much all of your game is otherwise built in way to make it attractive to as large group of potential customers if possible. You could just as well go for psychedelic textures, poorly optimized game engine, off-key music and VA performance that'd grate on the ears, since someone is going to nitpick these things anyhow so why bother indeed? And yet you do, don't you? So why an exception here?I guess we could go for the blandly attractive cover girl as the ideal, sure, but we'd rather not-- and that wouldn't stop the nit-picking anyhow, so why bother?
Note, i think this argument of yours is also posed in loaded manner -- why does it have to be "blandly attractive" cover girl as the ideal, as opposed to it being characters (of both genders) who are simply proportional enough not to trigger the sense something is off about them in the viewer? Do you think characters can't be just "attractive" if they look like a normal human being, without unnaturaly exaggerated features?
Wow, what a great post! Not very often that you see something so reasoned and logical on a forum. I really hope that the devs see and respond to this.

Your good, but i prefer the original your changes although slight take away from the overall character in her face, everyone seems to want characters who are too generic.

Not keen on her face though, IMO her chin and jaw are too big. They do look swolen.
I think they went for a Salma Hayek look but havent quite hit the mark. The current chin/jaw make her look like a man....just my opinion.
The revamp a couple posts up is a whole lot better if the devs are going for a seductress type pirate as she was in DAO.

I was just thinking of politely asking Stanley Woo to allow a positive Isabela support thread to be created.
The "Internet Male" quotient is way too high in this thread to bring it back to constructive discussion.
Hey now, i am a Man and i am trying to deter all these fools
Oh, I'm not talking about all guys...Internet Males are a very specific phenomenon. It's nothing personal.
So everyone that dares criticize a blatantly ugly character has to be a loser doing it for attention? What about Internet Females who seem to take it as a personal insult whenever there is a remotely attractive female character in a game? Lol. Bunch of sexist hypocrites.

I agree my revamp is pretty generic for a seductress look, again, it's also my idea of beauty. My only point though is that if they release the toolkit which I'm praying they do, that we can leave them as is, change them slightly, completely or any which way we want.. I made Alistair in DAO a brunette and Leliana a blonde, I overhauled the look of Morrigan and darkened Sten's skin etc.
I really liked that aspect and although I don't really have a problem with Bioware's character designs, it was really enjoyable to be able to create the characters how you wanted, through the toolkit.
On a side note, I think that original shot of Isabela is just poorely animated and at an awkward angle. Overall I like the designs much more than ME2's as face copying the characters after real people just causes massive creepiness imo..

Wow, this looks 10X better, the face actually seems proportionate, she actually looks like an actual human being. Also it works much better in her character, as it gives off the seductress part of her as well as the tough part, if I saw the one on the left in real life, my first thought would be to hit it with a shovel, drag it into my backyard and bury it so the creature would never see the light of day.

1. I have no problem with the change ruining "continuity". One of the advantages of making a sequel is you get to improve things you may have not liked as much the first time. For example, the new quanari don't look much like Sten in DA:O, but I really really like the new look. It doesn't spoil a thing for me. In the case of Isabela, I think they improved on her and gave her a more unique, exotic look.
2. On Isabela's new look. I think in the picture most are looking at, if you just give her cheeks a bit more definition, she looks really good. Some of the other screenshots are a much better represention of her new look and while she may not be 'covergirl' pretty, she has a pretty cool, exotic look to her. She might need a bit of adjustment on mouth and chin positioning to give her a more natural look. Other than that, looks good.
3. Promiscuity. Well, my noble warden hooked up with a handmaid after talking to her for like one minute, had a few enjoyable evenings with Morrigan, then dumped her for Leliana and had fun with Isabela and Leliana at the Pearl. Kind of hard for me to complain about promiscuity.

This is only true if your definition of 'remotely attractive' is 'largely uncovered by clothing and with boobs that are bigger than her head.' If that's the case, then yeah, you're completely correct, I suppose.dan107 wrote...
