My only concern in seeing characters so individualized is that I wonder how the armor will work with companions. They've said we'll have an inventory and all, but well, technically we had an inventory in ME2 as well.

Swear to all that is holy if they pull that "unique companion clothing" bs they pulled with ME2 I'll cancle my preorder and not even bother til its 10 bucks used.

Opinions differ. I prefer the character-styled appearances, as seen in ME2, over the generic Joe Smoe outfits any time.

I think that individualized body and clothing designs far outshines the benefits of customizable armor. We had customizable armor in DA:O and what it amounted to was a lot of really boring looks that were copy-paste of all the other really boring looks on the characters that had bodies that were copy-pase of the identical bodies other characters had. What's there to customize? Where's the flair? It was boring. It was customizable and all that meant was that everyone had to be the same.

This is an RPG. A core part of an RPG is that you have customization. You want to play a character with a set style, go play an adventure game like Assassins Creed or Prince of Persia.

DA:O is a bit recent to be tossing continuity out the window as cavalierly as Bioware seem to be doing.

Isabela didn't catch my interest particularly in DA:O, anyway. And not just because I'm bitter over her turning my warden down

So rather than have the art department make more distinct and unique looking versions of armor. lets just give companions one outfit and remove gear customization altogether? Oh thats a wonderful idea! They've spent so much time changing the looks of so much of the rest of the game, darkspawn, characters, Flemeth, the art style, etc. why not go all out and make a ton of unique looking equipment?

Well look who's throwing her attitude around. Big. Freaking. Surprise.
Even if they make the armor not boring and fix all the cliping issues they had and fix the floating weapons outside of combat, having customizable armor will mean that everyone has copy paste bodies so that the armor models will fit on the body models. The alternative would be to have custom armor models for every character. And yeah, I think that would be the best possible option, but I kind of think that they can't go that route given the amount of time they have spent and have to spend on the game.

I wouldn't mind it if every character had one unique look, like Morrigan did in Origins. But you still could mix and match your armor if you desired. Doubt it will happen that way, but I enjoy being able to customize the character's armor- if I spec Morrigan as an Arcane Warrior, she sure as hell is going into some heavy armor and not staying in her skimpy robes.

This is awesome. Why couldn't they have just done something more like this? They didn't need to give her an inflated double chin.

Seriously what the current model looks like to me is a double chin.

So do real men. I'm not completely without a little extra flesh in the chin myself. But I don't play video games to simulate reality.

/facepalm  You do realize It comes down to extra art work correct? Just make more varients and you have not only customization, but various distinct looks. I was fine with the Origins system, Sten still looked like Sten with the Warden's Plate gear, and Oghren looked like Oghren with it on.

Part of what I've always loved about CRPG's is choices, be it dialog, gear, weapons, feats etc. The idea that some people are fine with, and are actually encouraging them to strip out a major portion of customization just so companions have some "unique" look to them drives me up a wall.

People complaining about the different shading of skin have never lived in Edmonton. You get tanned up in the summer if you are outside a lot and you slowly turn into a pastey white during the winter months.....repeat. I think the new one looks a ton better than the older version in every way. We'll have to see if she has the same interesting personality.

Well the fact that some people would scream and shout in favor of thoroughly boring apearances just so that they can chanbe their characters clothing drives me up the wall. First and foremost, characters must be interesting. It doesn't matter how well developed they are if you don't even want to deal with them.

As a specific example, Morrigans outfit was one of the most disappointing features of the game. She gets introduced wearing this awesome individualized robe. Which you then will never see again in favor of those horrible horrible mages robes, since everything that comes after has to fit copy-paste bodies.

Yes, I really do. Her lips don't look shrunken and her neck doesn't look like it was inflated with a bike pump.

The whole pudgy face, inflated chin/jawline is something I've noticed on a good number of the characters in the DA2 screens- Cassandra has a rather strong jaw, as does Varric, Carver and Isabela. I hope its not symptomatic of the new face morph system.

I'll go out on the limb and admit that i actually prefer her initial appearance. Maybe because she's less airbrushed and more life-weary, which is pretty rare for a woman put into spotlight (unless these women are supposed to be at least 60 year old) She's also attractive yet not forcefully so.

Of course not. They used the bike pump for her lips instead.

I'd rather the characters wore stuff that reflect their personality and character than to wear the same armor as everyone else. That's just my opinion, though, it wouldn't bother me much if BioWare chose to go in the complete opposite direction.

On a side note: I think DA2 Isabela is very pretty. I wonder what the people in here who call her ugly would imagine a "pretty" woman to look like. Someone's standards are a little too high, it seems.

Clothing isn't what makes a character interesting. Their personality, dialog, input into the story, and the relationship you form with them during the course of the game is what makes them interesting. Gear, is just that, gear.

The idea that you want a "specific" outfit to relate to a character or make them interesting is telling. You want to play cookie cutter action games with little stat crunching or customization options, there's plenty of those on the market these days. There's very few, stat driven, tactical classic CPRG's, please don't take what was originally billed as a spritial sucessor to Baldur's Gate away as well.
