My only concern in seeing characters so individualized is that I wonder how the armor will work with companions. They've said we'll have an inventory and all, but well, technically we had an inventory in ME2 as well.

Swear to all that is holy if they pull that "unique companion clothing" bs they pulled with ME2 I'll cancle my preorder and not even bother til its 10 bucks used.

Opinions differ. I prefer the character-styled appearances, as seen in ME2, over the generic Joe Smoe outfits any time.

I think that individualized body and clothing designs far outshines the benefits of customizable armor. We had customizable armor in DA:O and what it amounted to was a lot of really boring looks that were copy-paste of all the other really boring looks on the characters that had bodies that were copy-pase of the identical bodies other characters had. What's there to customize? Where's the flair? It was boring. It was customizable and all that meant was that everyone had to be the same.

So rather than have the art department make more distinct and unique looking versions of armor. lets just give companions one outfit and remove gear customization altogether? Oh thats a wonderful idea! They've spent so much time changing the looks of so much of the rest of the game, darkspawn, characters, Flemeth, the art style, etc. why not go all out and make a ton of unique looking equipment?

I know you're being sarcastic, but honestly I can't help but saying "yes" to that.

For example, Morrigan in any outfit but her original or the Robes of Possession simply looks wrong. Sadly, none of the other characters (not counting Shale or Dog) had a unique look in quite the same way. Clothes tell a lot about who people are. I like the idea of my companions determining that for themselves. They're already following me in combat - it would be absurd for them to follow my directions in clothing (unless they're military uniforms, clothing for special circumstances etc)

Sheesh, from the way you talk, you'd think the new model looks like this.

This one gave me good laugh. She needs the same warp applied to the chest area though, for the full effect Image IPB

Of course not. They used the bike pump for her lips instead.

Preferable to the chin!
We're given two extremes with those two images. Somewhere in the middle would be best. Yeah, her lips are huge in the original. But seriously it looks like they stuck a bike pump in her neck for the new one.

That doesn't mean I think women in real life should all look that way. But this is a video game. I'm not looking for images of real life women.

On a side note: I think DA2 Isabela is very pretty. I wonder what the people in here who call her ugly would imagine a "pretty" woman to look like. Someone's standards are a little too high, it seems.

I don't think she's ugly. I just don't have too much of an interest in seeing real life women in video games.

How about they give some male LI's that you think are fugly? Or have some particular feature that makes you go "... ew." What then?

I'm going to quite politely point out that veiling ad hominem inside the layers of an actual argument doesn't make it any less of ad hominem. If you want to disagree, that's cool! These forums are made for discussion and conversation, and it'd be pretty boring if everyone agreed on everything.

But if all you're looking to do is condescend and pick a fight, you might find that other forums may be more to your liking. Discuss the issues.

Eh she looks fine to me, but then again clothing doesn't make a character for me, their actual personallity does. gear is just equipment imo.

I would like to have both options. I kept Morrigan in her clothes (even though others were better) as I did find them to be "her". However, I would have put her in something different if I found it had better stats and I liked it better on her.

I would *love* for all of the companions to have a unique look of their own, but I want the option to change it out for something better. Hopefully, they'll have such kewl looking armor and robes, we won't be able to make up our minds. :D

Oghren, Leliana and now Isabela... the writers obviously like all the NPCs I could care less to see again. Image IPB  At least there's Flemeth.

Awww... :(

I'd hug you but I'm too excited about having Isabella in DA2!!

LOL  I'll recover, I'm sure.  And just go back to waiting on something that enthuses me about the game.  I'm sure eventually there will be... or so I keep thinking...

And some people don't think her new face (while not perfect) is an improvement? Really?

I'll go out on the limb and admit that i actually prefer her initial appearance. Maybe because she's less airbrushed and more life-weary, which is pretty rare for a woman put into spotlight (unless these women are supposed to be at least 60 year old) She's also attractive yet not forcefully so.

I just don't see it, I thought she was one of the most unattractive characters in DA:O. Her face manages to look emmaciated while mainting comically overinflated lips.

Brockololly wrote...

The whole pudgy face, inflated chin/jawline is something I've noticed on a good number of the characters in the DA2 screens- Cassandra has a rather strong jaw, as does Varric, Carver and Isabela. I hope its not symptomatic of the new face morph system.

I've noticed that as well and I do think that is case, either that or its just something that is related to the prefference of whoever designed them in game.

As long as you're allowed to tell them how stupid it is to go into battle with the Loincloth of Power...  Image IPB

But we know Isabela's (lack of) clothing here serves the same function as Bethany's push-up bra.  And it's not practicality.

Who gives a flying **** about Isabela. But I should contain myself. We can always throw her in a dumpster. It's just the idea that someone would spend a minute of their time on that instead of Morrigan that makes me feel a little disoriented.

But carry on. I guess.

I approve of this NPC becoming a PC. The Qunari all looking alike, however, is grounds for some wonderfully off-color jokes. You know, from me.

The idea that you want a "specific" outfit to relate to a character or make them interesting is telling. You want to play cookie cutter action games with little stat crunching or customization options, there's plenty of those on the market these days. There's very few, stat driven, tactical classic CPRG's, please don't take what was originally billed as a spritial sucessor to Baldur's Gate away as well.

You. Are. Ridiculous.
I don't even know what else to say to this, it's just so wrong. You're accusing me of wanting this to be an action game? Just.... no. No I don't. The very notion is absurd.

I didn't think she was attractive in DAO, and still don't, though I also don't demand of NPCs that they look picture perfect.  I didn't like Zevran's appearance, either, but his writing won me over and then he started to seem attractive.

I have noticed that the puffy, rounded jawline is appearing as a regular feature on the female models.  Which is a bit of a disappointment, as I like it and thought it made for a good icon of the female Hawke.

The alternative view of that is, having control over companions' appearances allows you to a degree to rp for them as well. I.e. it's not as much your character telling them "what to wear" but it's you, the player, deciding that this character would rather wear something of your choice rather than what one particular artist in charge of character design envisioned for them.

This can be especially valuable if the game can be modded, given it allows to introduce outfits that aren't present in the default game. Like say, armour of the Sten or armour of the Devout set.
