"Leading lady"? It's a companion, with an optional romance, and one you don't even have to recruit. If you really don't like her, then give her a pass. Seriously, the day we make a romanceable character that appeals to absolutely everyone (and, if female, isn't picked apart by forumites based on her facial features)... well, there's no need to speculate because that will never happen.

Just because it's the first companion we've publicly spotlighted doesn't mean there isn't anyone else.

The one picture surely looks terrible, but I think she will look different in the game.

They could at least have kept her hair color, though.

I'm not fond of lip piercings. If it has to be a facial piercing, one stud on the left or right nostril at most.

The the low camera perspective/FOV has the effect of exaggerating her chin though. But if there's a toolset, odds are there'll be a fix anyways, assuming the character creator's generous.

I dunno. If it sings "DOOM DOOM DOOM", I'll wear it.

Never! :P Seriously, as I said before, I would like to see my npcs with clothing or armor specific to their personalities. We all dress to our own tastes IRL. I also want the option to change it, though.

People would fix characters until they don't even look the same.

Hell, I saw a black Alistair once.

I approve of this NPC becoming a PC. The Qunari all looking alike, however, is grounds for some wonderfully off-color jokes. You know, from me.

What have you done with the real Dave, you you, imposter! [smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie]

Just because you are positive about DA2 doesn't mean you like everything about it.

I don't want to speak for Dave, but it doesn't sound like he stated his own position on the matter in that comment.

Oh, yeah. Totally read that wrong. The comment about not liking everything about something you like is still good, though. Just off the wrong context.

On a side note: I think DA2 Isabela is very pretty. I wonder what the people in here who call her ugly would imagine a "pretty" woman to look like. Someone's standards are a little too high, it seems.

I don't think she's ugly. I just don't have too much of an interest in seeing real life women in video games.

How about they give some male LI's that you think are fugly? Or have some particular feature that makes you go "... ew." What then?

Sadly, none of the other characters (not counting Shale or Dog) had a unique look in quite the same way. Clothes tell a lot about who people are. I like the idea of my companions determining that for themselves. They're already following me in combat - it would be absurd for them to follow my directions in clothing (unless they're military uniforms, clothing for special circumstances etc)

The alternative view of that is, having control over companions' appearances allows you to a degree to rp for them as well. I.e. it's not as much your character telling them "what to wear" but it's you, the player, deciding that this character would rather wear something of your choice rather than what one particular artist in charge of character design envisioned for them.

This can be especially valuable if the game can be modded, given it allows to introduce outfits that aren't present in the default game. Like say, armour of the Sten or armour of the Devout set.

Exactly.

But you shouldn't role play the other characters. They should be their own characters which your character is able to interact with.
I want every one of the companions to be their own person. This is why I hated Zevran but have never thought that he should have been written differently. He was written perfectly. He was just a person that I loathed, so I always kill him. Same goes for Morrigan constantly pissing me off, but drawing me into romancing her anyway. The characters should be who they are, not who you want them to be. That's what makes the stories memorable.

Actually, that has always been something that I have found really really really disturbing. So I'll just say that I don't get it and let that one go.

Deekin ftw! I'd be fine with that n2nw, just allow me as the player the OPTION to customize if I'd like to. That way everyone's happy.

I just don't see it, I thought she was one of the most unattractive characters in DA:O. Her face manages to look emmaciated while mainting comically overinflated lips.

I guess the lips don't stand out for me because prominent lips tend to be quite natural feature for black people, so given she's dark-skinned that results in appearance that isn't really unusual. On the other hand the redesigned Isabela has lips which are unnaturaly small and unusually small/narrow nose, and these combined sort of trigger the so-called uncanny valley reaction -- the brain can tell it's not a real human but at the same time the fidelity is too high to allow it to glance over the anatomy shortcomings.

Holy **** are you an idiot? IT'S AN RPG. ARMOR, WEAPONS, RINGS, AMULETS, EQUIPMENT!

Goddamnit why don't we just remove guns from FPS's, or crouching from stealth games.

Thats pretty much what I initially replied, the personality, input into the story, etc is what makes the character memorable. I honestly couldn't care any less what a companion is wearing for armor aside from is it giving them adequate protection.

Running head long into battle in just a shirt is silly. Much like I always found it silly in ME2 with Miranda's skin tight leotard.

I like the new Isabella, less like a generic NPC. Because let's face it, there was nothing unique about her appearance-wise and even shared the same voice with another character.

You'll never have a character that appeals to everyone visually, but you really don't have to go too far to make a character that will appeal to probably about 90% of men that play the game. Just pick up a Victoria's Secret catalogue and copy that. Yes, I'm sure someone will say that they're too fake, skinny, or whatever -- but there is a reason why all those models look more or less the same. They appeal to the overwhelming majority of men. Male sexual preferences are really not rocket science. Men who don't find underwear models attractive are a pretty small minority.

As far as personality goes, obviously men have much more varied tastes, but I would imagine that a floozy that got tag-teamed by the Warden and Zevran in a seedy tavern would be a pretty obvious no-no. Maybe that's just me though.

I like the new Isabela model. She has a more realistic figure than DAO female models, and most other games for that matter. As for her facial features, she definitely has some chub. But hey, big girls need love too.
