Think back to a time when you and a group of friends met at someone's home and gathered around a kitchen table, or in a basement rec room to play Dungeons & Dragons.
Whether you met once a week at the same day/time, or at a few hastily scheduled gatherings established ad hoc throughout the month, everyone was there, playing the same PCs, and experiencing the same adventures collectively.
Re-capturing these memories and this game play experience is the essence of a NWN/NWN2 Campaign.
Using NWN or NWN2, players meet on-line at a pre-determined time/day/place to play through a campaign style of ongoing adventures. You get the chance to develop your character, participate and contribute to the efforts of your comrades, other PCs controlled by other players.
It's similar to choosing to spend your gaming time on a PW, with a few significant (IMO) differences;
- you always have a DM dedicated to interacting with your and your group
- you are rarely adventuring alone; you are part of a group of adenturers who all support each other just like in PnP
- aimless wandering is lessened because you have a DM delivering a plot and adventure
- there are no such things as timesinks, grinding, farming, muling, etc...
Now, this style of gaming was very popular with NWN, but never really had a chance to take off with the NWN2 crowd, mainly because of poor choices made on the MP side of development. Really, it's only with the addition of the ADL that this style of on-line gaming became reasonable and possible with NWN2.
So, as a result, most everyone thinks that NWN2 has to happen in a PW environment. What a shame IMO.
For anyone who read through this post, and is sitting at their computer thinking "that sounds like fun", respectfully I offer my campaign for your consideration. The next game is listed at the link below... if you are interested, please PM me on Neverwinter Connections, through the game page.

Take a journey back to what you remember your D&D playing experience was like in the days before the WoW approach became predominant.
Multiplayer Campaign (no, not another PW...)

5 players so far... Sweet!
How about that European evening session?
By the way, I am going to steal your post and use it for my campaign. You did a good job of pointing out the benefits on DM'd campaigns.

People truly do not know what they are missing.

An European evening session would indeed be sweet

See, that is two so far...
And indeed, they do not know what they are missing. People play PWs and ask, "are there DM's on often". A question that for obvious reasons one would not ask here.
PWs advertise how a player can impact the PW world in a meaningful way. But that pales in comparison to how a single DM'd party can affect the world they adventure in.
I like PWs but this is definitely worth it too.

Right now I'm UTC -6 according to W7.
What sort of times would these games need to be scheduled to have a shot at gaining European players?
Also interested in thoughts/ideas on how to promote this rewarding style of gameplay, and get more people to try it out.

I'm in CET and available between 9-11 PM pretty much any night. 9 PM is 3 PM EST, 2 PM CST, 1 PM Mountain and noon in California.
As for ways to promote it, if there was someone who could always host then it is easier to get a group to show up. For instance, a group wants to play Keep on the Borderlands with a DM. They let the host know, everyone grabs it and they play it. Basically a dedicated DMing server for random adventures. Perhaps it could host a catalogue of adventures, B2, C1 etc.

I've been waiting for someone to host one of these for NWN2 for ages! Can't believe I missed this.. I'll have to keep an eye out on NWN connections if you decide to do another one.

Opportunity exists for some adventurous sorts to join a 2nd group I am assembling.
Unfortunately, it appears that I simply cannot work a "European friendly" slot into my home/work schedule right now.
Post here or PM me if interested.

I'm PST. I take it "every 2nd Wednesday" means bi-weekly. I could find a way to commit to a bi-weekly game. I was going to post a list of days and times I could play during a week. After reading the list I realized I could schedule in time any evening. My favorite evenings would be Wed and Thurs. Sat nights would be the least, but very doable.
What kind days/times are you thinking?
I'm an old Basic DnD, AD&D PnP player (Traveler, Gamma World, Top Secret, Boot HIll, etc...). DM'd, also. Now, I'm sure I'll be a bit rusty. So far, I've played two DM'd sessions on SOD (NWcon6) and had a good time. I'm starting to get a good handle on 3.5e.

Wednesday evenings would probably be the top choice. Mondays may also be possible.
PM me an email address if you'd like to be added to the list.
Come on people... just need three more!

I'm interested in a NWN2 DM'd campaign. I don't have any expansions yet but would consider it. I also have most if not all of the original NWN expansions but I'd have to dig them up from somewhere.

I don't know if this option is still up, but I'd love to get in on this. I just picked the platinum pack up on Steam and I'm going through the OC, but I'm feeling a bit underwhelmed so far and would love to try something new. Wednesday evenings would be ideal, I believe, but I could possibly do Mondays as well. I'll PM you an email in a second.
