Hey ppl,

Ive been browsing this forum alot lately, and i missed a nice category to discuss(although i might aswell just missed it)

Which npc's are good to pickpocket and is pickpocketting viable during combat ?
I want to discuss this here and have as much ppl as possible give tips about good looting targets. I started using pickpocket alot with leliana in orzammar, so my own contribution to this topic will be very small sadly but i had a very nice target for ppl who want a damn good item:)

1: vareg: when u pickpocket him at the entrance of assembly.. u recieve a champion shield with a basic 4 armor/def (forgot whats on a shield again), but with a tremendous bonus of + 12 in the same armor/def value.

and if u complete the initiate quest for him and get in the royal quarters, u can pickpocket him again for the same shield  

2: shaper in shaperate owns a +2 willpower amulet

3: Father of house ? (one u save in deeproads first part) owns a dagger with its own codex entry.

4: some nobles in orzammar and dulin in tapsters tavern can own up to 90 silvers each.
 
more adds to this list with the best picks in all ferelden are appriciated

Lothering - Merchant that is argueing with priestess. Gives some dragonthorn? crossbow. Dex of 34 or 36 required I believe.

I have gotten some really good Tier 6+ gear from picking random monsters during combat on my first playthrough. Most I just sold however. I recommend trying to steal from every Yellow/Orange as much as you can once you get Steal IV. Whites typically only gave me money ranging from 50-100 silver.



Still nice that you get extra loot from stealing in combat though kinda like the Final Fantasy games .

Can you pickpocket the archdemon?

I doubt it, considering that as soon as you defeat it the game is officially over. Even DLC that you get later takes place "before" the battle.



Still, they might have tossed in an Easter Egg just for fun. I might have to reload my last save and try for a while. Even using Stealth in combat + Steal it generally takes 10-12 tries to steal from a boss though. Might not even be possible on the archdemon.

4 sovereigns is a decent sum for a pick-pocket.

The named Templar outside the chantry in Lothering has a nice 1H Sword (Oathkeeper?).

not that i know.. i stole from alot of quest related persons and noone really cares a damn

NPCs call you a thief and stuff, and you get attacked by guards quite often in Denerim because of it.

Edit to clarify: As random encounters when traveling in the city, not in the market or whatever.

Sounds like a win-win, phat loot, and extra XP from spawned guards? 

Goes against my role-playing though, don't like stealing unless from a monster etc.

All stealing failures are recorded in the Heroic Accomplishments tab, other than that, no.

In the circle of mages when you finish the summoning quest an Arl i summoned who you can pickpocket for a codex entry

The merchant in Ostergar gives you a belt thats +1 to CON. You can get it before and after the wilds. Thats 2 belts for the price of none.

yea this is the one that really stands out.

personally, i like the roleplaying aspect of helping the guy just so you can turn around and rob him blind later.  lol

If you steal from any of the Dalish elves, you'll have a random encounter where a ranger group attacks you for doing such.

I got a codex entry off the 2nd summoning circle, as well as the 4th.

I never really paid attention to what i've gotten, I just know that I have pickpocketed every single npc I have come across, and have pickpocket in Leilana's tactic script to do in combat haha.
