1- didn't have to uninstall, i just ran "setup.exe" from disc 1 since the launcher doesn't give that option as others have mentioned. It pretty much overwrote everything, but at least I didn't have to uninstall.
2- when i ran it, i had the unauthorized dlc issues and after a few log outs and log ins, i checked services.msc and found my dragon age content updater missing (i had it before i overwrote installation via UE)
3- i restarted the service via the -- "%WINDIR%\\Microsoft.NET\\Framework\\v2.0.50727\\installutil.exe daupdatersvc.service.exe" solution
4- restarted the dragon age content updater service
5- now authorized!
btw, I use xp pro if that matters.

That's the link I got from the representative on the live chat to fix the unauthorized issue.
If that doesn't work (which it didn't for me, it actually made it worse in which under the downloaded content there was nothing listed at all.), I received the following link.
http://support.ea.co...w/unauthorized.
If this still doesn't work (which it also didn't for me), I was referred to this last resort method, which I am currently doing now.
http://support.ea.co...ually uninstall
Manual uninstall, then reinstall.
These are just a few pages that the EA Support gave me, I hope it works for at least a few people out there.
Edit: Tried all these steps and still no good. I even made sure the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater services is running, no good. Funny thing -- the 3rd EA rep I talked to got so tired of trying to fix the problem, they told me to delete all my cookies/history and such, they gave me instructions to clear my browser and ask me if it helped. Of course after I did, I found out that ends the chat by severing the connection. I'll remember that one.

Is this game playable or do I have to sacrifice my first born? If so I already payed $49.99 so thats a little steep.

Still awaiting delivery of my DAOUE, hopefully today.
Sounds sort of selfish I know, but I may hold back on installing this until these issues are resolved.
Have had DAO and DLC running smooth since January, so afraid I may end up with no game at all to play.

So after getting very frustrated myself about this I may have figured out what the whole issue we have here is. Steam have actually sent out the keys in the wrong format.
My DA:OU key was ABCDEFGH ....
My DA:DLC key was ABCD-EFGH- ......
Turns out you have to add dashes on the original key to register it, and remove the dashes on the dlc key to register that.
NOTE TO BIOWARE - Please relay the above to Steam Support, as this is a simple mistake, but seems like a lot of people may have the same problem.

I've purchased the Ultimate Edition by Internet (EA Stores) and I've received a mail confirming the purchase and giving me a key with 20 digits that let me activate Origins and Awakening but DLCs (downloable content) appear as unauthorized.
I've read you talk about a 16 digit code (promo code) which they didn't send me. Any idea where can I get it?
Thank you in advance.

I registered both codes fine and they show on my acc like i have all the DLC but its always 'unauthorised' ingame so i cant play. Ive restarted the game and relogged multiple times and waited many minutes on the main screen.
If i go to services theres nothing at all related to this game listed there like a content updater. So ive no idea how i can fix it.
I have steam installed on a seperate hd to my operating system and in the non-default folder. Not sure if this might be the problem.

Hey for the guys that downloaded from EA store. I think I found how to fix the "unauthorized" problem.
(Windows 7)
1. Find your addins.xml file. Mine was located at [ C:\\\\\\\\ Users \\\\ (your name or user) \\\\ MyDocuments\\\\ Bioware \\\\ Dragon Age \\\\ Settings ]
2. Use "Word pad" to open the the xml file
3. Then change every RequiredAuthorization = "1" to RequiredAuthorization = "0"
(I used ctrl-f to search for every RequiredAuthorization)
Hope this helps!! :-)
Hi guys, I bought the game online (EAStore) and had the same problem, this fixed it for me. Thanks jhoang3!!
Still, this is pretty weak on Bioware's part.

Whats worse, I had a CD version of dragon age installed, uninstalled it, and now *all the DLCs* have disapeared from my menu. Every single one. Even the available to download ones.
Does anyone have any ideas of how to fix this besides contacting support or re-installing? If all else fails I'd be willing to re-install but I don't even know how to do that. The opening menu has the option blacked out.
edit:I think removing the original game removed alot of files needed for me to view and play the DLCs from the other, and i have no clue how to get these back I'm afraid. I'm tempted to try downloading the DLC's manualy as it was a option given on the promo page, but I can't seem to find that page anymore either. Anyone know how?

This will make them work but I really wanted to get them registered. I also bought it from the EA store and our problem is that nowhere did the store give us the 16 digit DLC redeem code everyone here is talking about. We only got the 20 digit core game serial code.
And by the way, that method is the same method used to pirate the dlc. I bought this game even after knowing this from experience, I'd like to have my DLC activated in the normal way this time... =/

Make sure you login to the game once, using the same email/password as you use here on the site (email should be visible at the top of either of those pages to confirm). Give it a couple minutes and your DLC should authorize.
If it is not - 99% likely the cause is something related to the DA updater service which is used to connect to the servers and check that your account has these dlc:
1) Try restarting the PC. Depending on windows version and whether you installed the game from disc vs digital service, the restart is sometimes needed for the DA updater service to take correctly. This is also true for uninstall/re-install scenarios - restart after each step in that case.
2) Follow the steps in this thread to identify the issue and resolve it (depends on what the issue is).
Hope that helps.
F.
