I sort of see Velana as an avatar for Elven outrage... albeit it goes way beyond words and water jugs (Shianni) or cursing humanity and by proxy the dalish to a living hell (Zathrian). She is young, very "spirited", and overly emotional. The "stealing" of her sister and deaths of her friends who followed her out of either similar beliefs, respect (since she was to be the next Keeper), or loyalty/worry for her safety... do weigh heavily on her.

People make mistakes, and I guess because I been playing KOTOR recently, even the most cold-blooded killer can be sculpted by having just one bad day in their life. If someone can show up, and be there for them inspite of their blindness to the truth of things, people can be turned around.

(I think a Cousland/Velanna romance would be one part intellectual, one part physical, and five part suppressed and not-so-repressed racial overtones.)

I must admit that I'm curious about the details here, but the only one for both her and myself is my power-hungry Surana, which you may have gathered...

Not really a fan. I'm kind of iffy on bringing Sten along, but his dedication to wanting to take his punishment for his actions made him seem more trustworthy. And that he didn't murder them with glee as Velanna seems to do.

As to the overthrowing chantry plans, they make me think of Costin's plans to fight the darkspawn by conquering the world first so there'd be no other threats to worry about with a rag-tag team of factions.

Bringing down the Chantry could theoretically be possible... I do have plans for at least weakening it, though they involve my taking a bit of artistic license (saying that the current Tevinter Archon is a dynamic, Bhelen-esque man who wants to move the Imperium forward). The short version is that it involves trying to lure the Chantry into an Exalted March against everyone who's pissing them off at the moment (Orzammar, Dales-seeking elven revolutionaries, freedom-seeking mages) and losing; what happens afterwards, I haven't decided yet.

I always got the impression she's a lot younger then she lets on. She melts fairly quickly if you actually take the time to befriend her as well. Her actions in the Wending Wood are pretty horrible though even worse when you take into account that deceived or not she basically lashed out at the first thing she could. I still honestly wish you could have interacted with her more.

Honestly, I think the biggest issue is that there just isn't enough time to really get to know her, or help her see the bigger picture. I believe that if the time was there, Velanna could have been developed into a very interesting and deep character, like all the other companions.

Although not canon, I like to believe that she becomes very close to my Warden and also forgives her the whole mess with Seranni. I think that given enough time, Velanna would come to regret her actions and try to make amends, and not just simply use being a Grey Warden to get her way. I think in a way, her best ending slide reflects this.

Anyway, I've decided in my dirty little head that she ends up falling in love with my Warden and Leli, despite both being human. Their relationship together ends up changing her views forever and helps her to become a better elf. Yes, I'm crazy lol.

The Warden and Leli? How would that relationship work, I wonder?

Melts?  Now there's a word I've never associated with Velanna.  But then my Warden ended up on worse terms with her by the end than in the beginning due to killing the Architect.  I had to LOL at the epilogue slide about them being seen arguing a lot at the Keep.  That's how they started, that's how they finished.  Dalish catfight!

It really depends on how you interact with her much like anything else.

My PC did get to warm with her, maybe even friendly, but if you want to stay that way you either have to leave her behind or agree to work with the Architect.

Respect for a mind and will and, of course, physical beauty, gets mixed up in race tensions.

He's a human noble, descended from the very nobles who have long oppressed her people. He both feels sympathy for the plight of the city elves, but does not like the Dalish propensity for hostile isolationism inside Ferelden borders. He also sided with Werewolves against Zathrien. She also brutally attacked 'his' people.

And that's just complications on his side.

I doubt there could be any happy ending, but there was a certain attraction, and fireworks. Big, loud, hot fireworks.

If you take Velanna to the Mother and agree to side with the Architect, is there any resolution with her sister?

How does Velanna respond to the Warden if the Warden is Dalish as well? Is she still all "Get out of here! I'm warning you! Trees, attack! I'm so ready to take your ass DOWN"?

If I remember correctly, there isn't.

She's really very civil.

So she doesn't send Sylvans after you? Confront you at the Dalish camp with anything resembling an antagonistic nature? I'm really curious to see just how Velanna will react to a Dalish, but spending 50 hours playing through Origins is a bit much just for that. :pinched:

The only difference is that she says she recognizes you from the Arlathvan.  But yes, she tries to kill you if you persist looking for the darkspawn.  LOL at "civil."  Not a word in Velanna's vocabulary.

Sadly, there is no real feel good ending, I've looked into it. About the best you can hope for is to help change her views on humanity so that she protects a town when the darkspawn attack. Every other outcome is negative really. Vanishes under a pillar of stone, vanishes in the Deep Roads some years later during a mission or she will always have a level of aggro against you for not siding with the Architect and losing her sister.

As for how a relationship would work, it's simple really. Patience, caring, lots of Dr. Phil style crying sessions and then later on, lots of caramel pudding. That's my 2c lol.

She clearly drops the hint that she wants to have children in the future... maybe she shoulda asked more than "can I sense darkspawn as a Warden" before asking to join the Wardens? I kinda went "What?" when you give her the notebook as a gift and she just bluntly says I want these for "when I have children".

So she does dream big, when she does dream. Otherwise she is a cranky pants... but they're such lovely pants.

Caramel pudding is good, I suppose...

And it's true that all the appointed endings are less than totally satisfactory, but all you need do is make your own ending using one of them as a base.

I had the "good" ending. Let's just say that before my Cousland Warden left for mirror-world with his babymama, Velanna was often spotted entering the Commander's quarters during the late hours of night.

LOL  I think she was probably looking for a chance to poison your tea.

Sorry, I just can't see a woman who hates humans that much nipping in for a little shem nookie before you go off to find your babymama.  <_<
