Any notes on the mod tools ?
Haks, overrides, mod folder, portraits, etc?
There were notes on BG forums that the BG SoA and ToB GOG game was not modable. However further notes provided here suggest Gibberling 3 et al were on top of it and working it. i.e. altering mod packs to work on the GOG digital DRM free version.
How does the NWN digital DRM free work? Given key authenitaction is a feature of the game.
New players are able to load up CEP, overrides, community mods etc?
Also I have not seen the official notes - is it patched to 1.692083? Or is it the Platinum version that IIRC was only patched to 168 ?

The tech guys from GOG don't come here. Perhaps you should go to their forums and ask them.

On the website for gog.com it says it's patched to 1.69, so it's the latest as far as I can tell. As to the DRM free thing, the CD key isn't necessary unless you want to play online with others. In that case, there's an earlier post on page 1 of this thread that tells you how to go about requesting an online play CD-Key. It's an extra step, but considering the data on SP players vs MP players, not an unreasonable one. All you gotta do is ask and ye shall recieve. Dedicated MP fans will not balk at that I am sure.
And don't forget to participate in the contest if you have the chops to do so. Either as a module creator (it's a really short module, so simple even I could do one in that amount of time) or as a modeler.
Remember, if you enter the model contest, you either create your own monster (time consuming with animations and what not) or you take a stock NWN creature and modify it so it looks more like a new monster than the stock creature. (This way the animations should be easier to rig.)
I always pictured the DRM monster as something kind of Ogre or Otyugh like, but hey, it's only limited by your imagination.
And for $9.99, this would make a great stocking stuffer for your friends and family (and an insidious way to get them drawn into the game, mwuah hah hah haaaah.)
Come on people, show 'em what you got!

The very reason i bought the GOG version was so i don't have to enter in those ridiculously long keys ever again. I already own the boxed Diamond version. At least it's fully patched on install.

I've been running the GOG version a couple of days. It works fine with every HAK I've tested so far. They give you 3 free games with your first purchase as well. Does anybody really need another reason to go pickup a copy? Oh right, it comes with some premium modules too.
I'm sure I can find more reasons, why are you still reading this? Go get a copy, you know you need another! Or your friend, brother, sister, father, mother, grandma, or dog does.

I was imagining the DRM monster as an ogre too. But it's head is a smashed computer screen that is lopsided and hanging off of one shoulder.

Would be nice if we got such an influx of newbie builders now that we could relive the good old days of the Builders Project and soon run our own mini-module contests, similar to the Custom Content Challenge.

I believe that Icewind Dale 2 complete was just released on GOG.com.
So there is one more reason to join the contest (see the sticky in this forum).
On a more serious note, I think you guys are going to lose all the new potential GOG members who want to join the NWN1 community if you can't, at least, field four submissions for this contest. Just so there are at least four potential winners in the contest (see the rules if that doesn't make sense to you).
I do not think the GOG members would want to join a community that can't even come up with 4 entries for a contest. It makes the community look pretty bad.
I'm saying this because I want you guys to suceed. The more converts to the NWN universe, the better things are for everyone. At the very least, the world is filled with a better class of gamer.
I'm not going to beat you guys over the head about this. But be careful not to think that everyone else will do it (enter the contest) so I don't have to.
Lastly, obviously it would be less embarassing to have more than the minimum number of finalists (four).

(I assume the game is shipped with a CD-key to play online....?)
It would be somewhat of a big "oopsie" if it wasn't.
Not initially but you can get a key from GOG if needed. Here is an official statement:
"The installer uses a default CD key which won't work online. To get your own unique key, please contact us by using this support form and make sure to select "multiplayer key request" under "I have a problem with:" - it will make this task a bit easier for us. ;)"
Can I have some more details on how you make this request. My kid's online friend is downloading the game now and she is not clear what " support form" is. Once nwn has completed downloading is it obvious? If not can you supply a few more details. (Might be a good thing to put in a sticky article if not real easy).

The GOG version has a minor glitch in it. You have to install the 1.69 HOTU critical rebuild patch, because evidently the GOG installer is missing a few files and it created some issues with character creation. The issue's noted in their NWN forum.

As Talia said that critical rebuild patch is always needed for GOG's version yes...
Link to a page (for windows users) where you can download the patch:
http://nwn.bioware.c...glish_hotu.html
(Skip step 1, go directly on step 2 - which is downloading the file)

It seems strange to me that Bioware/EA have their newest games available on Steam but the older ones like NWN are not on there. I think they are missing out on lots of sales but maybe they don't need the cash?

That may be because in this instance it's Bioware/Atari as in Bioware were an indeoendant software house published by Atari. All 6 of the recently released into GOGdom were published by Atari.

They just brushed down the prices for NWN and some other games now just as well. A discount for the christmas rush it seems...
So now you can buy NWN for under 7$....
