Oops. Small snafu. I don't think I can download from the GOG ftp. Can you guys:

Superfly

Balduvard

Tarot

Either use dropbox (see my referral) or another means to get those files to me.

And for future submissions, can you guys not use the GOG ftp.

It is my fault. I thought I could grab them from there but I think that GOG is too clever to let anyone just grab them. So rather than put them through the whole "please give me access" hullaballoo, it would be easier to just get the files to me another way.

Can you get GOG to remove the entries from thier ftp site then, as I don't want to enter twice.

Now that you have it, you will love it. Here is a thread about Dropbox which gives you some ideas of it's advantages:

But basically, you can back up anything on your computer to the internet and share files with anyone extremely easily.

I have send you a PM, Banshe, with the link to my entry to the contest, using dropbox. First time user, so hoping everythings fine. If I now just could put that feeling of missing something important to a rest...

Submitted my entry, sent you the link per PM. Tell me if you got it.

I just wanted to get it over with quickly and missed the part about you getting advantages when we use your referral so I didn't. D'oh! Sorry for that... :pinched:

Then again, now noone can say I tried to bribe one of the judges. ;)

Hehehe. That is ok. But it is your loss as well. You get 250mb for using my dropbox referral too.

As for submissions these are the ones I have so far:

Balduvard

Rubies

Dick Loraine

Olivier Leroux

Tyndrel

Tarot Redhand

I have not received Superfly's submission which he only put on the GOG ftp site.

Other than that, if your name is not in this post, then it means you still need to give me your submission.

Hey. I was just surfing here to see if there was any idea of when the modules would be judged and then I saw that I had to email it or something. I haven't finished reading how to do that, but I wanted to let you know that I have mine up at the GOG ftp site and I'll try to send it to you as soon as possible.

... Wow, and I thought I am the only one who couldn't manage to submit! And it went almost double since you announced the "last chance" :)

As a friendly reminder to those who may be new to using the toolset: do make regular manual backup copies of your module. The "restore from backup" feature of the toolset will often leave modules corrupted, and if the toolset happens to crash while it is saving your module, much of your work may be permanently corrupted depending on what point it crashed at during the process.

Damn, I wish I have read this thread earlier...

I had exactly that (the module getting corrupted) happen on November 21st... Thankfully, it got corrupted only towards loading it to NWN, but still editable, so I managed to export most of its contents...

.... DANG... I dunno if it'd count past deadline, but I have to re-submit due to a major (and totally idiotic) bug making it impossible to complete...

http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=6212

Also, there's a walkthru there now, too.

As much as I'd like to add stuff to my mod, I think leaving it in the state it was at deadline is the fairest thing to do... that said, I may add the stuff I wanted and post it to the vault for a bit of fun.

The contest had the feeling of the build we all did for NWN2 Halloween... which sounds like a great way to keep some building interest alive and possibly growing for folks new to NWN.

We could all submit an area for a themed mod... put limits on things.. then link them together... heck perhaps the theme could be a function of the toolset... so we could see how different builders tackle different problems.. without hak packs.. that way new builders could also learn from the more experienced hands...

Perhaps 4 times a year? ... perhaps a GOG t-shirt to the area deemed most worthy of a t-shirt (only can win the shirt once... but given a special zone for areas of past winners??) I dunno.. just rambling about stuff.

Long Live NWN!!!

I agree, such contests are a great opportunity to encourage people who haven't ever submitted anything before to try and learn building, or even those who don't have time or drive to build a full scale module but might create enjoyable mini-mods. It's something that can draw in new blood and keep the community alive (but also drain and exhaust certain members for a while;)).

IMO, we could handle such contests on our own and we wouldn't need any prizes (see the NWN Custom Content Challenge) although I'm not sure how much interest and motivation there would be without the promise of 5 free games. I'd like to think it doesn't matter but you never know. (The good thing is: The community always wins and gets several new games for free, no matter the outcome.:) )

How much of a change is necessary? I did receive a query about giving someone more time for their module and I did say "no" as it would provide an extra benefit to the contestant and I like to keep things fair and simple.

However, what you seem to be asking for is a fix to a very critical bug which, if not addressed, effectively eliminates you from the contest.

So, perhaps you can outline the problem in more detail. Is it a script that is broken?

Well... hmmm... I took out all the stuff that was causing trouble because I didn't have the time to fix it and still make the deadline. I could have chosen to leave in the bugs and make things look and sound really neat.. and fulfill a bunch of other things I was going to do... but then I'd have submitted a module that didn't work...

I think your instinct of saying, "no" is a good one. ... as this is a contest with actual prizes.. If you want to give all entrants a "polish it up" deadline.. where we all get some more time.. but no new entries are allowed.. well.. that seems a bit more fair.... but still not that fair as others probably re-arranged their schedules and made module decisions based on the original deadline.

I did a total brain fart and didn't take into account the time change for the deadline and discovered the problem with about an hour to go before deadline... I had built my areas.. and dabbled with some of my ideas.. but in effect, I built all the stuff in the mod in one hour.. I thought I would have 8 hours... so.. my entry, while working, isn't really what I envisioned.

Will I win? I doubt it... I know with 7 more hours I would have a much better shot.

Will I be upset if you let someone fix a bug? Not too much... it's all for fun. But I think it's opening up a can of worms.

Yes. It is a can of worms...

After reading your post what really hit me was that this is, indeed, a real contest with real prizes. And that is a very good point.

So I think I will go with the original entry as above all else, it is important that everyone is treated equally. And everyone had the same amount of time to create and test their creations. It seems some people did start late but that cannot be a factor in the decision making process.

I hope, and I think that, Cheeseshire cat's entry is only broken at the end (judging by his post). So it will have to be judged up until that point.
