So can we change our companions outfits, or are they static like in ME2? Devs?

I fully trust we'll be able to manage their gear like in DAO.

None of the characters wore headgears besides Isabela's stereotypical bandana. Perhaps there's a toggle?

DAO already did this to some degree with the dialogue system. I don't want to go any further down that road.

Tbh it kind of broke my immersion in DA2 that I wsa able to command the other characters to dress as I commanded. I mean "Leliana, will you kindly walk the Denerim market in just your underware?" should be met with a slap, not an "Yes, sir!"Sylvius the Mad wrote...
As soon as my ability to play the companions differs markedly from my ability to play the PC, the game stops being a party-based game.

That suggests you think you were playing a single character rather than the whole party.The Masked Rog wrote...

That's the difference between a single character game like ME and a party-based game like DAO (DAO was explcitly developed as a party-based game).
BG = party-based
NWN = single character
KotOR = party-based
JE = single character
DAO = party-based
ME = single character
If the player has direct control over a character, then that character is a PC. All of the companions in BG, KotOR, and DAO qualify.

But that is a little strange, because party members have well defined personalities. During battle they obey you as their commander but outside combat they act according to their personalities, and this happened in BG as well. The fact that I couuld have Minsc act as a evil bastard and the next second have him comment on how evil I was just struck me as immersion breaking. Let me control the party during combat but I'd prefer if they had their own tastes when it comes to equipment.Sylvius the Mad wrote...

DAO and Baldurs gate were part based games but I also feel like they had a main character. I like that your party can disagree with you. as if you were giving them orders and not acually living all character.
Icewind Dale would be a better discription of a "party based" game that had you accually LIVING all characters with no MAIN character. And Icewind Dale was crap because there was no party banter or dialog.
Back to DA2 though. I want the best of both worlds really. I want a fully customisable wardrobe with more opportunities in game for characters to have unique clothes as well. Integrate it into the plot more. Take morrigans robes and go further.
Poorly written Example: You walk into a mages type of store and Bethany maybe says, "Wow, look at this place. Its my kind of store" and they will sell some Bethany only style clothes along with the other baubles. Or a situation in which a sly street vendor has some Isabella only styles in addition to his standard clothes.
I dont see why you cant have it both ways.
