So can we change our companions outfits, or are they static like in ME2? Devs?

Seeing Isabela's very unique outfit made me wonder this. I hated some of the outfits my companions sported in ME2, mostly because they were going into combat against heavily armed enemies wearing clothes from a S&M fashion catalog. Seeing Isabela dressed so scantily is making me nervous about this. So devs, is this something you can answer now?

I think that aspect hasn't changed from DA:O. Also, a future toolset would take care of anything cosmetic easily.

I second this. I would like to be able to armor my party members for combat, not change the colour of their outfits.

I hope we can change them. I don't want ME2-type skins to come to DA2.

I think we probably can alter outfits. Look at Bethany, we've seen her in at least 2 diffrent outfits so far.

I'm pretty sure that we can change their armor, the inventory system is supposed to be the same as in Origins...

Plus don't forget, in DAO some characters had restricted items. Like Morrigans outfit. She could wear other things, but her starter outfit was restricted to her. That's most likely what Isabella's outfit is we're seeing.

I fully trust we'll be able to manage their gear like in DAO.

Though some suspicion crawls into my head, I'm almost sure we'll be able to change it. At least I really hope so... really very much...

None of the characters wore headgears besides Isabela's stereotypical bandana. Perhaps there's a toggle?

I doubt a helmet could fit on Varric's giant melon. :)

As soon as my ability to play the companions differs markedly from my ability to play the PC, the game stops being a party-based game.

DAO already did this to some degree with the dialogue system. I don't want to go any further down that road.

Tbh it kind of broke my immersion in DA2 that I wsa able to command the other characters to dress as I commanded. I mean "Leliana, will you kindly walk the Denerim market in just your underware?" should be met with a slap, not an "Yes, sir!"

I like that they have unique clothing. I'd prefer it to remain that way, maybe with upgrades.

I think it will be like DAO but with a unique Set of armor for each Companion.

I hope it will be like having Morrigan and her robes. Characters can come with there default restricted to them clothes but you can change them as you see fit. Afterall, the said they didn't abandon the inventory like they did in ME2.

That suggests you think you were playing a single character rather than the whole party.

That's the difference between a single character game like ME and a party-based game like DAO (DAO was explcitly developed as a party-based game).

BG = party-based
NWN = single character
KotOR = party-based
JE = single character
DAO = party-based
ME = single character

If the player has direct control over a character, then that character is a PC.  All of the companions in BG, KotOR, and DAO qualify.

But that is a little strange, because party members have well defined personalities. During battle they obey you as their commander but outside combat they act according to their personalities, and this happened in BG as well. The fact that I couuld have Minsc act as a evil bastard and the next second have him comment on how evil I was just struck me as immersion breaking. Let me control the party during combat but I'd prefer if they had their own tastes when it comes to equipment.

I dont fully agree with your black and white analasis Sylvius

DAO and Baldurs gate were part based games but I also feel like they had a main character. I like that your party can disagree with you. as if you were giving them orders and not acually living all character.

Icewind Dale would be a better discription of a "party based" game that had you accually LIVING all characters with no MAIN character. And Icewind Dale was crap because there was no party banter or dialog.

Back to DA2 though. I want the best of both worlds really. I want a fully customisable wardrobe with more opportunities in game for characters to have unique clothes as well. Integrate it into the plot more. Take morrigans robes and go further.

Poorly written Example: You walk into a mages type of store and Bethany maybe says, "Wow, look at this place. Its my kind of store" and they will sell some Bethany only style clothes along with the other baubles. Or a situation in which a sly street vendor has some Isabella only styles in addition to his standard clothes.

I dont see why you cant have it both ways.

"If you remove that, I'm afraid I'd be naked!"
