Eh. I don't care what they have on at first as long as I can change their clothing. Wearing the same outfit for 3+ years will be ridiculous.

Well, we have already seen (through the trailers and especially with Hawke and Bethany) that as time passes different character start wearing different cloths. I'm sure this will apply across the board or at the very least where it makes sense for it to do so.

So no need to worry.

Ok since the game is taking place over 10 years and the companions are leading their own lives, what happens to gear you put on them before they return home?

Any gear you're able to give them remains on them, just as when party members were retired to the camp in Origins.

Hmmmm, interesting. but "gear" could just mean weapons.

I hope it doesn't, but I'd need to hear more before I start cheering.

Nice find though. . .

Why do I have the feeling that when things like this are announced in podcasts, rather than a quick comment in the forum, I should be nervous....

Why a podcast?  I hate podcasts.  I'd much rather all this content be text.

Hopefully someone will transcribe it fairly quickly.

Well, I just revisited that whole thread that Maria brought up (thanks Abandonment), and I see both sides here.

On the one hand, it's always kind of ridiculous that any character (male/female, human/elf/dwarf) can just pick up any old set of armor and put it on and have it fit like magic. So, certain characters being restricted to certain armors makes a certain kind of sense. On the other hand, I fully approve of eliminating class-based restrictions on types of armor in favor of strength-based limitations. That to me clearly makes more sense. And the idea of every piece of armor you find being labeled "Isabela" or "Bethany" or "Hawke" is pretty unappealing. Surely, some armors would fit more than one person easily enough.

With regard to characters being individuals, and wearing what they want rather than what I want, that makes sense to me. On the other hand, if some people want to fiddle with and/or reinterpret the personalities that Bioware has provided, with a different vision of what so-and-so would want to wear, I am also in favor of permitting that. It's sort of like playing an US warden in Awakenings. I might not do it, but why stop them? (Unless it creates story problems later on, which in this case it could).

I think my ideal solution would be if no armor were ready to wear when you picked it up (or possibly had been damaged), and you would had to go to a blacksmith or tanner in order to re-size it, which would then be an opportunity for it to turn into a customized look for the person you have it re-sized for. On the other hand, that could be a big hassle. So, I would enjoy it (along with bringing back weight limits to your inventory and making enemies drop the armor and weapons they are using), but I can understand why others might not (particularly the more casual audience they're also trying to attract), and why it might be an awful lot of resources to commit for kind of quirky little feature.

But what's the alternative? Cut scenes after certain boss drops where one of your characters picks up a piece of armor and reflects about how it will fit perfectly? That seems a little cheesy. And what happens if that character isn't with you at the right moment?

For the most part, I trust Bioware here, but I am nervous. I don't imagine our characters' armors will just improve magically at certain level thresholds or anything, or stay the same throughout the game, but I could see the framed narrative being used such that the time passing between parts of Varic's tale is the only time that companions' armor is upgraded. That would lose a lot of the excitement of finding fun new stuff, for me. More likely, each piece of armor we find will be labeled with who it is for. There might be ways to pull that off OK, but if that's all there is I think it will feel pretty artificial and strange.

I have my fingers crossed that they have something better up their sleeve here, though.

In ME2 suit attributes were null for your squad. So arguing that it made no sense, makes no sense because it didn't pertain to the game play at all.

I liked the idea that we had no options of controlling our teammates armor, besides being able to re-skin them. It worked well with the story of taking these very different people across the galaxy and bringing them together. Clothes stress personality, so part of that individuality would have been lost if we were simply given the option of clothing a character in a generic option.

That said, armor played a much more important role in DA:O than it did in ME, so I can't see Bioware doing what they did for Mass Effect 2. I do see them creating more customizable armor though: color...material...etc.

What I want to know about is the underwear. It looks like Isabela gets to wear a thong. If she gets a thong, then... Do Marian and Bethany get thongs, too? And Aveline and Cassandra?

And if that's true, and all the women get thongs, then...

My mother will be wearing a thong! EWWW!!!

Will the men get thongs?

Hmm, "Any gear YOU'RE ABLE to give ..." I think the wording that is key here is 'you're able', so it could just mean necklaces, rings, etc, not armor.  Which would suck.

I think the the most likely scenario is the thong will be limited to the clothing or armor you are currently wearing. So if we try to "unequip" Isabela's pirate costume, it will be replaced by the magical deafult underwear.

Though being able to change the underwear this time would be.. lovely.

Yes, I don't really get it either... That seems overly complicated and impractical. Not that I mind listening to Victor and Mike or whoever is being cast this time, but I always feel like I'm missing/misunderstanding/forgetting some bit of info, and listening to the whole thing again is a chore.

The ME2`ed the companion inventory. So Isabella will be wearing what you see in the trailer. You can also improve her outfit with runes. I wonder where the rune will fit in her outfit though. In her push-up bra? I doubt I will be buying this game at all now. Its getting very...non-rpg for my tastes.
