So can we change our companions outfits, or are they static like in ME2? Devs?

I hope the outfits are static. Or at least all armor upgrades are specifically designed for that character.

That way the aesthetics will be consistent and I wont have to do my usual consideration of "are the stats really worth how ugly this armor is?"

I usually go for aesthetics over stats in the end...

Then Morrigan falls over... again.

i'd prefer if every party member has a unique "clothing" instead of this Image IPB , and i 'd like to be able to change armors of everyone in the party.

personally I think they can have their "unqiue" cloth, armour etc. something that makes sense (stats wise etc.) when you encounter them initially and that also has some benefits (stats wise) so you don't have to run off and sell everything to just buy something akin to armour. However the unique armour or cloth shouldn't really be end-game material but should need replacement with some decent armour (ish) type of garment during the course of the game.

That way each character got their unique look at the beginning of their joruney but one can customzie what they wear by everyday armour when they see fit.

I don't see what was wrong with the way Origins handled it.

All they'd need to do to improve it is add more armour designs.

DA:O did a pretty good job with it...

Mostly I didn't notice except for the horrible hats they had you put on mages.

The biggest thing for me was actually Sten's sword and how terrible it was. How you go through all this trouble to give him back his sword that is as much a part of him as his own hands and then... he might as well not use it because I have six two handed swords that are WAY better.

That and Morrigan's robes and how putting her in any other cloths dramatically changed her body type.

Edit: As such I actually greatly perfer the methods used in ME2. If I want to draw a direct comparison then I'll say Legion's Sniper rifle and Sten's sword. Sten's special weapon should have been more powerful than anything else I just found in the game, much like Legion's personal sniper rifle. Then a line between ME and ME2, Tali's armor in ME. Mostly I could only find upgrades for Tali which were these horrible pink and white monstrosities and so I never upgraded her armor...

Beyond a few small (and I mean small) tweaks there is absolutely no reason to change the inventory system from Origins, it was fine. I'll wait and see what the podcast says before jumping to conclusions but the fact they are talking about going in depth about it and saying it needs explaining worries me.

Hopefully all those fears are unfounded but now they have me dreading a streamlined inventory system similar to ME2 :(

..I'm concerned about this and helmets as well...

especially if we have to do any vacum based fights...Isabela running around in her outfit and a mug on her face would be crazy.

In all seriousness, I kind of like the idea that they will have their own outfits, as long as we don't end up preparing for some massive battle and they come running out in a two piece cotton bathing suit.

I'd actually like to see that...

Especially if it was Varric.

I've got good news and bad news for you guys.

The good news: next week, we're going to talk about inventory and followers in detail in a podcast.
The bad news: it is not next week, yet.

So sit tight. I'll try to be comprehensive, or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Whats with the cloak and dagger stuff and why am I totally seeing ME2 equipment options all over again for companions?

YUMMY!  The problem would be, you wouldn't know where the chest started and the clothes ended.

Nah, Mass Effect losing the inventory system is one thing, but it wouldn't work with Dragon Age...

..unless they get rid of loot...
..and merchants...

Dear god!?? You don't think???!!

In retrospect, you are right. I see no issue.  My mistake.  Bring on the swimming trunks!

I hope they change a little bit, maybe have several unique outfits dependent on race and class. Example I always thought it stupid that I could outfit Ogrhen in one set of armour and then swap it out and put it on Sten! Likewise with weapons, why would Ogrhen be able to wield the same size two handed sword as Sten?!

I'm thinking that first screen is Bethany when you're in Varric's fantasy land exaggeration and the second is the real world- so I don't know if that really means much.

Woops Ninja'd:ph34r:

My guess would be that we don't have inventory in the exagerration, in the sense that each character has an iconic appearance with an overpowered unique armour set (like Hawke's armour). I bet that armour is the same whether you are a mage, rogue or warrior.

Where it does vary is in the "actual" DA2 story, where characters are not overpowered and can swap items and generally wear normal armour.

If I deal with too many things at once, I forget where I am and have to start over on all of them, so you probably don't want this.

Oh yes, believe me, we do.

Also, losing one feature pretty much always means that something else was beefed up.

Except in this case they would be sacrificing something else to change the inventory since DAII runs the same engine as DAO. It would be extra work to change it which would mean less time to change things that could actually be improved.

I hope they aren't. Not in the game which gave us the mage hats.

Because it's one thing where there's always option of "well you don't have to wear that hideous thing if you don't like it" and quite another where that's gone.

Actually it would be less work, because they would just need to make only 2 versions of each armor, male and female since you can only be a human.
But I hope they maintain the same as it was in Origins, there's no need for a Mass Effect like "inventory".

You're forgetting that the inventory system would need be to be completely reworked to make that possible as it was with ME2.
