So can we change our companions outfits, or are they static like in ME2? Devs?

It's definitely being ME2'd. Why wait for a podcast to talk about it otherwise?
So they can write out exactly what they want to reveal and how, and have it all in one tidy package for the media, among other reasons I'm sure.

And yet, they explcitly labelled DAO as a party-based game during development. In Exile wrote...

Stop trying to ruin party-based games.
Any deviation from that model will elicit criticism from me.
That's true. That's why BG is their greatest game so far, in my opinion.Their model seems to have been quite "anti-party" so-to-speak, since BG.
They haven't in several of their games. There's no reason why they can't, and they've said as much in previous discussions.Bioware does not seem to "buy in" fundamentally into the idea that the player is the party as opposed to the PC.

*sighs* Was ME2 really that better of a success than DAO?

I know but bah. I hated, hated. hated. The static appearences.

There's no air, there's nothing and yet you have your eyes / nose / ears / skin exposed to open vacuum with only a breathing mask?
Even more shocking when you're on the flotilla in a full body suit to prevent spreading germs and Jack is chilling with only straps for a bra and a breath mask.

I figured that if they could harden your bones and skin they could come up with a way for you to endure a vacuum. Then again, I'm easy to please.
Edit: And bring people back from the dead. Like, irreversable frozen/torched/terminal velocity fall from space death.

Exactly, stripping out all the elements that make an RPG an RPG, to "streamline" it for the masses. AKA MassEffect 2.
What sheer and utter nonsense. Hey I have no problem with people being displeased with any aspect of a game that they do not like. Some of these comments about what constitutes the big elements of an rpg being an rpg however are absurd.
Its hardly nonsense, ME2 is not a particularly deep RPG, hell its not even that great of a shooter either. Character customization IS a staple of the genre, weather you want to admit it or not. Its bad enough we're now forced to just playing human, it would be even worse if companions get the one outfit fits all ME2 treatment.

Well, this is also the series that says that a hex pattern significantly increases your physical resistance.

Sure but a good story doesn't require that the rest of the RPG elements need to be streamlined down to non existance.

I prefer party members having a signature look that does not change based upon what kind of armor you give them (besides simple recolors). Instead only changing on plot events, like Alistair becoming King.
Not me. Give me access to those armors, and I'll decide if they're appropriate to my roleplaying in any given game, thanks. Or even just if I hate them--don't want to be stuck with a signature outfit that irritates the heck out of me.. Alistair usually wears Cailan's armor, but he doesn't always put it on at the same time. I don't want someone else decided when that should be.

Good point but most of us can just pick up a book instead of a game if we just want the story

It doesn't need to, its pretty hard to debate that customization options have generally been a fairly standard thing in RPG's over the years. Removing it for the sake of removing it doesn't really make the game any better.

I'm not! I still believe in fluffy things with googly eyes, unicorns and sparkely pink dragons! if they exist then there is hope yet little voice of doom
Anyway for sake of staying on topic, I really want options as it just wouldn't feel the same :/

I wish this forum had the ability to search topics by thread starter. I would love to pop up the thread I started in January when ME 2 came out, where I suggested that companion outfits in DA 2 get the same treatment as those in ME 2.

I can see the positive parts of it. Every companion looks unique, you won't meet accidently create a PC that looks exactly like your companion.
I can't use the Alistair hair because of it and my first female Warden looked exactly like Leliana.
