I just read a couple of posts from Mr. Gaider in the thread for the new trailer concerning all companions having Friendship and Rivalry dialogue trees. It sounds really awesome so far and it's definatly an improvement over the old system where it was friendship or nothing.

Sounds like it will lead to alot more interesting interactions between characters. Where a companion may disagree with your opinions but will continue to follow/aid you out of respect.

I am curious however if the Rivalry path can lead to romance?

I'm thinking along the lines of Inara and Malcolm in the TV show Firefly or Han and Leia in Star Wars. Those relationships always had alot of heated arguments and tension (don't think i would classify them as Rivalries exactly) but in both cases they took a turn towards romance.

It would be really cool to see something like that.

Would anyone else be interested in seeing this?

I think I answered this specifically in the last thread about this, but yes-- you can have a romance on both the rivalry and friendship path. The character of the romance will be different, depending on the character in question.

It's probably important to re-iterate that friendship/rivalry is not quite the same as approval/disapproval from DAO. You don't gain friendship or rivalry based on how nice or rude you are to someone in DA2, but rather the actions you take and opinions you express on their hot-button issues... in particular when it comes to their personal quests. Does this mean that someone who is rude to a follower can still have a romance with them? Technically yes-- but the option to be rude or nice isn't something we deliberately try to stick in because it doesn't have a bearing on their approval here. So any comments you make will generally grow out of opinions you've already expressed, and probably will make a friendship/rivalry adjustment more or less pronounced depending on how you expressed it.
