Bioware getting a little shameless

A new character for preordering? Seriously?

Getting Zaeed and Shale for buying the game new is fine. Second hand sales and piracy are legitimate concerns, and those bonuses were good ways to curb some of that.

But a character for preordering is different. Bioware are requiring people to make the jump and order the game before it is reviewed and before consumers can make an informed decision. It reeks of poor confidence in their product and shows they are perfectly comfortable manipulating people to get sales beyond the product deserves. And even if the character becomes DLC later it still shows that they view DLC as a way to nickel and dime players rather than a legitimate method to add expansions to the games over time.

I'm only one customer, but after hearing this Dragon Age 2 will be the first Bioware game for the X Box that I will not be preordering. If these are the tactics they are using to push sales of the game then frankly I'll be happy to wait for the pre-owned price drop.

You'll more than likely get the character if you buy new, the only shameless thing is marketing like its exclusive. But thats not new.

Two contrasting statements here. Do we get the character for buying new or only for pre ordering?

brock has a thread on this same page about it, basically there will be a cerberus network equivalent with DA2. Seeing how you got zaeed via cerberus network its completely rational to assume you'll get this new companion by just buying retail.

Pre-order the game on blind faith, before any real reviews or critical opinions are released, and you get free content. Don't and you won't.

It's the best method to trick fans into buying a product before they can make an informed choice about it I can think of.

Pre-order and set it to "pick up in store." You don't have to pay up front, and the only downside is that you might have to pay a $5 restocking fee if you don't cancel in time/refuse to pick it up.

And I can make an informed choice with the information we have so far: the story is still there, the tactical combat is still there, the class system is still there, the facegen is still there. It's not difficult.

the character will be in every new copy I believe, the only thing they marked as 'exclusive' is in-game digital armory, which is reasonable

Contains the full version of Dragon Age II plus $20 of additional content including:

  • A download code for a bonus playable character and missions
  • Downloadable game soundtrack
  • Exclusive in-game digital armory featuring multiple weapons
  • Additional downloadable items

DA2 stil can't be pre ordered here in the nethrlands so far i know.

so i think at least you have this option.

we here in the netherlands are stil waiting for options like this.

because i would pre order this game right away HUGE DRAGON AGE FAN HERE.

i am still pissed off because i missed the special staff weapon code.

so please bioware think of your fans in the small country called the NETHERLANDS (holland).

You will probably still get the character without pre-ordering just like last time

you will most likely not get the weapons, soundtrack, etc

I think TC is making this whole matter into a bigger deal than it is. This just goes to show how people complain over the most insignificant things.

I'll probably buy this game too, but I don't like this tactic either. It's too early to be pre-ordering something we don't more concrete info about. I didn't pre order DAO until the character creator was coming out.

It's not exactly exclusive stuff though, Dragon Age Ultimate just came out with all the content, Shale, all DLC, even the feast day crap. So you CAN pre order now, or you can wait a year and get even more stuff..

You can preorder just fine unless Belguim gets preferential treatment? The links they send me to allowed shipping to another country (from the uk to said country), its just not free shipping, but thats not so bad.

They're just changing with the times. The era of big expansion packs is very likely over. DLC is a lot cheaper for publishers (no paying for packaging or materials), thus making it more profitable for them. It doesn't make BioWare evil or shameless, it just makes them smart.

Or how fan bois will happily be treated badly. If you seriously think that players should be penalised for having less faith in a product than the developers do then you are irreparably stupid.

Literally yesterday Rockstar showed that DLC and expansion packs can be the same thing.

Yes. Content developed alongside the main product that's only free with a pre order before the value of the product is known is the same as 'free content'. Don't post.

irregardless? Yes it's a word...but it means the same thing as regardless and as such doesn't get the recognition it deserves. I think certain dictionaries leave it out.
