"Common Sense"

So in other words, you have no actual proof? Bioware has said time and time again that they don't cut content from the game to release as DLC, with the exception of Shale, who was free to everyone who bought the game anyway.

I'm sorry buddy. But in these times....people change. Money makes you numb unfortunately.

Common sense ought to step aside when evidence or expert testimony that contradicts it is introduced. A foolish consistency and all that...

Oh so they didn't exactly say it was exclusive? Sorry I'm lazy...

That's the catch. Wait a couple of months and the character will be at the Marketplace and PSN, for sure.

Edit. It always happen. With Soul Calibur IV, for example.
Also, Shale. You could have her if you buy new at retail, but then she became available at the Marketplace. I highly doubt that EA won't sell the "exclusive character" at the Marketplace and PSN.
I could be wrong, though.

In before teen-angst induced "Bioware is screwing us over because they're letting us have more content for free." post.

Edit: Damn, too late.

No, what's important is teaching the people who make these threads how the game development process works, even though the attempts seem to fall on deaf ears every time it's done.

@Sarah: What are you basing that on?  inb4Shale

Common sense and seeing this sort of thing happen more and more often.

Thanks for sharing your insight.  It made me smile.

Your welcome, but honestly if you think publishers like EA, Activision, and Ubisoft aren't doing those sort of things to offset the continual rising development costs, well you're pretty damned naive.

Considering you're basing that on absolutely nothing, it's nothing more than a pathetic conspiracy theory.

I understand for the reasons stated above that its not a simple matter of just plopping DLC on the disk the day before release, but I think its mostly a perception issue- that if you're too quick in shoving loads of extra content in someone's face too soon, or even before the game is out, then without knowing how the DLC process works, its easy to think as a consumer you're getting hosed over missing content that "should" have been in the game.
I think the relative amount of content and the length of the game may play a role too in that perception- if the game feels rushed, too short or incomplete and yet DLC is ready on Day 1, it induces the ol' skeptical face.

OK ... but what's the appropriate response to a perception issue? Since I don't share the perception I'm not qualified to answer this myself.

If people honestly believe content doesn't get cut to be used as DLC later on, they're more naive than I thought. It happens all the time these days.

And believing that everyone is out to get you and/or is manipulating you and/or is lying about everything is a great outlook on life. There's a difference between being naive and taking the devs, ones that some people might conceivably have placed a fair amount of trust in, at their word.

I only trust BW devs because they've been pretty honest (as far as I can tell) in their dialogue with the community at large over the years. Despite SC2 being a solid game, and despite Blizzard putting out a string of good games, I certainly don't trust them particularly much as a member of the (formerly) beleaguered WoW shaman community (and because of the initial fiasco over RealID being implemented in the forums).

I dunno why its so hard to believe that they might plan for a reward scheme up front and develop it separately or alongside the main game. Now that is common sense and hardly naive.

You said that already.  Just so you know.  But still, I appreciate it--your words make me feel a bit more knowledgable, probably more than you think.

This is the real world. They cut content to release for DLC. No doubt. Should be common knowledge (It's like Religon). Whether it should be wrong or right is the real disscusion.

What proof does anyone have besides the dev's words? Like I said, neither of us have an argument here.

What do you base this off of? Have you ever worked in the game development industry?

BDF joke hur hur, no really i think it was the reference to religion. Which is funny too given how people are asked to believe in it without anything other than hollow words.

And if you actually want to sneak into EA headquarters and/or any of BW facilities and bring back some actual proof or evidence that they're deliberately trying to shaft the consumers, I'll be here waiting to hear back from you. You'll note that I've never said that it's not possible that companies haven't engaged in this practice, because I believe that it's quite possible that some companies have done this. I just don't extrapolate from ONE situation or ONE experience and become suspicious of all companies.

What I said was that I trust the BW devs a fair bit because of past experiences with them and that I take them at their word. I also have kind of a scientific bent. Therefore, my outlook on things is that I like to have empirical data and actual facts or strong evidence to base arguments on. I don't just say something like "religion" is common knowledge. I wonder what you're implying by that - that everyone should believe in a specific deity, or else? At any rate, let's kindly leave the religion and/or politics out of this. That sort of thing only results in getting threads locked.

Hmm, I'm pretty sure that it would only be sarcastic if he weren't firmly on the side of the OP and Sarah, etc. As far as I can tell, he actually believes the same thing that the OP's saying. As a result, my interpretation is that he actually meant that religion line seriously, but maybe I read all his previous posts incorrectly. *shrug*
