Ok, Im a little confused on installing all these old skool mods:pinched:
First off,
What the hell is a CEP?!  Because I have a whole list of like 100+ heads sitting in my override folder that wont show up in the character creation with the title "CEP"
Second,
How do I make a .hak work? I heard of something screwy like your supposed to do some funky stuff with it like installing it through the toolset, but It sounds a little confusing, so if you were to explain this, explain it bluntly with important details, I can't take too much "elves dancing around the tree" talk.<_<

I just want the heads and some armor mods to work... I don't like having a ponytail and short hair for options,
Like these ones:
http://nwvault.ign.c...ks.Detail&id=13
http://nwvault.ign.c...s.Detail&id=138
http://nwvault.ign.c...s.Detail&id=183
http://nwvault.ign.c...s.Detail&id=434

especially this one: http://nwvault.ign.c...s.Detail&id=202

And none really have instructions on how to install them for us complete newbies... "drop into the override and thats it" rigghhht.. then how come none show up in the customize character screen..?

So can someone help me, please?:(

I've had SOME experience with nwn2 stuff but it looks like nwn is a little more... cluncky

CEP 2.3

If you do not have this hak pack your override heads WILL NOT show up.

Hmmm, well as far as installing a hak pack you DO NOT have to do it in the toolset. All you do is d/l the file you want to use, unzip it using Winrar or another zip program and put all of the .hak files into the Hak folder in your NWN folder. Go to your NWN folder and open up the head pack file you d/l'd with a zip program and highlight the top head .TGA file. Once highlighted right click and select all. Once that's done put all of the highlighted .TGA files into your override folder and they should work on character creation.

Read that list in my signature.

Never forget hak = author's choice will prevail on override.

Ok, CEP INSTALLED, HUZZAH! but what about the other heads that don't have the CEP on them? Like the last link? How the heck do you open a .hak??

- I strongly believe you should install CEP 2,2 (and maybe 2,1 even?) before 2,3 as some files haven't been copied in the latest one.

- CEP should come with a PC .exe autoinstaller, doesn't it?

Don't forget, NWN doesn't read in the subfolders, so I don't think you should move any folder but only the very files inside.

Maybe some PC wizard could help you better here...

>.> Edited previous post, Installed the CEP,  but what about the other ones that just have the mdl's and plt's to work?
Just drag and drop in the folder and should work? The last link, All heads one, is just all mdl's and plt's.... :pinched:

I'm not sure I understand you fully. I'm from a very weird backward country which I use as an excuse for that kind of situation.
From the little I know, hak as to do with the author of the module: that's is signature. His module is going to play according to his hak, "overwriting" your own override. Heads have to be written within the author's hak in order to show, and if your lucky, som in your override folder might eventually show... if he forgot to turn them off.
As a PC user, you "might" be able to rewrite the hak according to your liking, but that's beyond my power, and beyond my patience as well.

First of all, if you wish to have some help, I'd suggest not hastely jumping to conclusions
followed by an annoying attitude. The fact that you don't know or understand how custom
content work with Neverwinter Nights does not make it "... a little more... clunkiy"

For starters, I'l tell you this:

Hakpacks are custom content packages that are added to modules created by people
like you and me via the toolset, the content of hakpacks do not magicaly appear in the
game for any and all modules you will play.

Overrides on the other hand, can be made to be present for any and all modules as long
as they "Override" original content of the game. Just dropping some custom content in the
override folder does not mean it is overriding original game resources...

For instance, if in the game there exist a texture for a head called "head_001.tga", in this case
you could use an alternate correctly done texture for that head model which would also need to be
a TGA file and also called "head_001.tga" that you would then drop in the override folder and then
would that modification be available automaticaly in any module you would play... again as long
as that module does not use a hakpack or hakpacks.

The game looks scans first for hakpacks then override... if none are present, it just uses it's own
resources.

But, in the case of TGA textures replacements, the game also uses in precidence DDS textures
so if you're trying to replace a texture of the games resources by adding an alternate TGA texture
in the override folder AND there is a both a TGA and DDS texture in the games resources of that
texture, the game will take the DDS in the games resources over the alternate one you put in the
override.

Hope that helps understand a little better. ;)

Hhmmm I have a bad habit of wording things akwardly...
As in, for example, for the last link, The files that I wanted to install were just the meshes (which I think is the .mdl and pdl thingys) and .dds'(which I think is the texture) textures, no .hak file, and she just said to install them in the override, but that doesn't look to be working. So, there is no way to make then "update" in the CEP updater... So, in other words, how I make the heads that are just files and no .hak heads to work?

To see your "override" working, you gotta play a "no hak" module, an "hak free" one which is going to let your own "override" do its job, not overwhelmed by its "superior" (Higher hierarchical? ;-)), such as that [tip *22] in my list (below): Pretty Good Character Creator / Customizer, by styzygy & hohos
*** Never forget hak (= author's will) prevails on override***

Wow, this post got alot more complicated lol...*shrugs* I never had any problems installing head overrides. To simplify things a bit if for no more than my own benefit haha...If you use the CEP heads override you simply put all of the head files themselves into the override folder. -NOT- the folder itself. Now in order for those heads to show up you have to have CEP 2 or better installed in your hak folder for those heads to show up during character creation. It's as simple as that.

I also suspect that if you put several different packages of heads from different sources into your override folder, they might override each other now. All heads come with a number and if two packages use the same numbers you won't see all of their heads. Additionally, the higher head numbers might not be accessible during character creation, so I recommend putting this into your override folder, too, in order to be able to switch heads in-game:

One of the reasons why some heads won't show is the hak always prevailing over the override.
Since NWN doesn't search the subfolders, opposite to NWN 2, those heads (files only!) have to be copied in the first (and only) level of the override folder in order to be active, and not into any sub-folders inside the override folder. Only straight files will be seen, active, in your override folder, and any sub-folder and its content ignored.
Which means if those heads have the same name... the latest is gonna overwrite (= erase) the former one. Another reason why you won't see the old one anymore.
That's just what I believe from my little player experience.
There shouldn't be any subfolder inside the override folder, only files.
'causing eventually an overwriting dilemma.
Life is nothing but choices anyway. Quite a good training...

This is true, you should install CEP 2.1 then CEP 2.2 and finally CEP 2.3, or you can use the updater, if your computer savvy..

As far as the OPs frets, I feel ya man, lots of work this game is..

You can use the Hak Editor which is found in the "utilities" folder in your "nwn" folder which is located usually on your OS drive (C:)

Here is our PW's Installation Guide. If you follow it, there are some extra optional files that are only for our PW, but they're tiny in size compared to the rest, and they are optional - you don't have to choose to install them. It includes the CEP, and is as streamlined as we could make it, and features a custom installer that streamlines the process:

Installation Guide

If nothing else, you'd be able to rule out the CEP install as the source of your problems.
