We've seen a half second clip of her simply existing, how could she be acting cute?
All we know from the Devs is that she is cute.

Not sure what the point is supposed to be here. To clarify, i meant acting in the sense of "behaving in cute manner", not "pretenting to be cute".

I believe I was mainly referring to the fan's response to her physical appearance since we know virtually nothing of their personalities.

The "virtually nothing" bit is part of what i was referring to -- all we know about Merrill is that "she is even more cute than how she looks". It's then not really surprising that generates a more positive response than what little we know of Isabela.

If I'm playing a Fantasy game I want my LIs to have a Fantasy air to them. Isabela, pretty as she is, looks like a gypsy pirate or a Fem Jack Sparrow, which isn't all that fantastical.

I disagree with this. But then again this would be delving into personal tastes as to where your post was more of a generalist.

I think we have a pretty decent undersanding of Isabela's personality, actually. Not that we know everything about her, but we know enough.

I must say, I'm quite suprised a quick, shoddy image of a tiny child like elf has garnered a much more positve response (in terms of romances options) than a character who looks like this...

Guess I should never underestimate the power of the elf fetish.

Can't speak for the others, but I think she looks too much like a guy (in the face area)

Specifically, Johnny Depp?

I think that's  what they were going for.  Still,  I'm completely impressed by these latest shots of Isabela.   f*cking hot, if you ask me.

PLEASE NO. I so hate that character. Sheryl Chee, please tell us Jack Sparrow isn't an inspiration.

Well, they both drink a lot, and wear earrings and bandanas. But I think the similarities end there?

I watched more Firefly and Star Wars (Original Flavor) while writing her plan, rather than Pirates of the Carribean
.

Definitely Mal/Han. Not so much the Inara, because I find her extremely dull. I almost want to say there's a bit of Zoe in there, because I love Zoe , but I can't. That would be deliberately misleading. Zoe is very much the military woman who takes orders and carries them out well and Isabela is... not.

EDIT: inspiration for character's creation: Firefly and star wars (the originals), namely the characters Malcolm Reynolds and Han Solo.

You people have your comparisons mixed up. It's not that Isabela looks like Jack Sparrow, it's that Jack Sparrow is androgynous.

So, The Escapist mentions that some options, like romance, will only be available with a rivalry path. Could this be the case with Isabela, ya think? Like maybe the sparks wouldn't fly high enough for Isabela if you're friendly?

If she looks like a guy, may the whole world go gay. I'd like to be able to go through a whole thread page where the characters are actually taken for granted and discussed for what they are instead of just bashed on and on. Those endless comments are really a huge waste of cyberspace ; if the people who invented the internet could have foreseen that, they'd probably have given up and gone on a quest for another way to get cheap p0rn.

What?

That would be really cool, but I don't believe  this is the case  (I thought the Devs themselves made it clear that if a character was romanceable, there'd be a flirt option in the dialogue wheel.  and you could just keep pursuing it whenever dialogue comes up)

Suspect that's just misunderstanding on the author's part. Seeing how he also includes combat benefits which are not limited in this manner, but instead different depending on what approach is picked.

In the threads where the system was explained the devs made it sound there's a version of romance on either end of the scale. Making it available just with one approach would be quite against why the system was enhanced in the first place (so the player wouldn't feel forced to take certain approach when dealing with the companions)

I am only here to say that if Isabela is a romance option for both sexes, I only hope she does that thing she's doing in the latest video with female Hawkes too. There, I had to get that off my chest.

I'm not a woman..I cannot fathom what a girl who finds girls attractive considers "sexual" "sensual" and "arousing" during heated foreplay with her p[artner but as a GUY looking at that scene I would say I'd rather have it play out differently for female Hawkes

Why? Should it be demure? Is it not sweet enough? If you're playing a character that would position (heh) themselves in that sort of situation, why would it matter if you were a Beardy or Lady Hawke? Assuming that Isabela has a similar reaction to both sexes.

Women, of all sexual persuasions, find a whole range of things arousing, sensual and sexual- just as men do.

I have nothing more to really add to this thread. I love Isabela. I look forward to romancing the HELL out of her. I think she looks great in the new dev vid, and not at all masculine (in fact, I absolutely adore her design).  Why is every one so afraid of these stronger looking female characters? Feh.

Also, I'm cosplaying her (wallpaper version, since I had NO IDEA how dark she was when I started the costume, and I'm decidedly paler) soon, should be interesting. I will definitely be wearing some sneaky shorts, though.

Edit: OH WOW, MAL AND HAN AS INFLUENCES? GWUHHHHH <3

I acutally prefer her new accent to the old one.

And she looks great in the new video. Not sure how close it is to the finished version, but I'm sold on her already.

I suppose I have to listen to her voice a bit more while playing but I like it.

She really looks great in the new video and it seems I'm going to have a good time romancing her, I don't know about the other girls available for romance but so far Isabella is my first choice, I do however wonder where will it lead because of the flashbacks in the "Destiny" trailer but I'm all interested to find out.

So, why is there no Han-influenced male character for my Lady Hawke to jump on? Or one that looks like Johnny Depp? *sulk* (and yes, I know people have wildly varying views about Johnny Depp )

Actually, I just wanted to say, that I really like the Isabela concept and that kissing scene in the video is very cute. At the moment she looks like first romance choice for my Male Hawke.

Oh, he would definitely be on top of my Lady Hawke's list, if he was romancible. Sadly, I seriously doubt that. :(

That is what I meant.

We have not seen her 'behaving in a cute manner', we've simply seen her existing.

Sure she 'is' cute but that does not mean she behaves cutely, that is an assumption on your part.
