I can't find the quote but I believe David mentioned that the romances in this game won't be what people expect.

Well, that's promising :D

The thing is, while you would never know it from looking at the forums, the average player doesn't romance anyone. It's optional content and I don't think it's as rigidly controlled as you might be imagining.

I would never dream that to be the case, but I guess I hang out on these forums too much.  I assumed they would go with 'what appeals to the masses' or their 'target audience' but I can see how this wouldn't matter if the mass audience doesn't even care about the romances.

Look at the Morrigan romance. She's obviously the face of the game, made to be sexy, and is going to be what many male players gravitate to. And in the end she dumps you. If they wanted to make a stereotypically appealing romance, I imagine that she'd end up discovering that love is the most important thing ever, and that she would stay with the Warden and start a family with him.

Eventually they get to do this...I think.

OK, maybe not.  I get your point.

The 'rivalry' paths are something you have regardless of whether you romance Isabela. I don't think it would make sense for someone who isn't in a romantic relationship with her to convince her to be monogamous.

In addition, to be sure, creating a rivalry path based around Isabela's sexual habits is a... problematic. Take Leliana and Alistiar, if you hardened them, they'd be willing to have a foursome, but their hardening wasn't based around 'stop being so monogamous!'

Ah-- oh right.
Wow I'm having a derpy kind of day.

yes there is a difference between being an amoral cheating jerk and being in an open relationship. An important one at that if it comes down to Isabela and Hawke having to spend long periods of time away from one another.

YET I doubt Bioware would leave the relationship open as part of what would make the relationship with Hawke special (and higher on the list than the rest) to Isabela would be at least the option of monogamy as in Isabela at least offering it....

Isabela: you know Hawke, if you asked....if it was what you desired most, I would be only yours

Hawke's oprions

- Yes I want you to be only mine

- No, I know have your heart, no one else of your lovers does and that is enough for me

- I need a drink......

or maybe based on the rivalry/friendship scenario.....

Anyways, we will have to wait and find out, quite honestly, this romance, or the idea of it, is intriguing me more and more

Isabela: Garrett dear, for tonight i thought of something a little more special, to break the mold. You know that tale of Snow White and seven dwarves? well... how about you and i role-play that?
Hawke: Well, that's an interesting challenge for sure. Not sure if i can fill in for seven, but will try my best-
Isabela: Ah, no worry about that. Already asked Varric to provide the cast. You, kitten, get to play the princess. Now how about an apple?

Cassandra:
You're exaggerating again, aren't you dwarf?
Varric:
Cassandra: You expect me to believe that the Champion of Kirkwall... with seven... That's pure nonsense.
Varric: Believe what you want. I'll just tell you that he and 'grouchy' never made eye contact again after that.

Long story short, she was done to look like Jennifer Garner, not just a "randomly" good looking woman, so I find it suprising that suddenly she looks like a Gypsy. Imagine Miranda from ME2 looking differently in ME3. Just my 2 cents...

She was done to look like Jennifer Garner? In truth, she was generic NPC #1254, and she happened to look vaguely like Jennifer Garner. Or was she actually based off her? I don't believe the devs have ever mentioned this...

Isabela from DAO sort of resembles Jennifer Garner but I attribute that to coincidence and what my brain wants to see.

I thought DAO Isabela looked pretty meh. I watched all the Alias seasons and a bunch of Jennifer Garner's movies so I know her face pretty well, but I never once thought "Isabela=Jennifer Garner." I can sorta see a vague resemblance now if I look for it, but I wouldn't want them to go full Garner for DA2 at all. We have plenty enough fair-skinned LIs. Not that I hate fair skin, I have fair skin, but I like variety, dammit. Enough with with the long rows of pasty people in games.

In any case, I like the exotic amber-eyed mocha-skinned dark-haired beauty of DA2 better. I expect a pirate to be sun-browned, whereas an auburn-haired peachy-skinned person would always be like, "Nooo, sunlight, I must hide!" It's not very piratey at all. Certainly not pirate-captain-y.

I personally love what they did with Isabela. Voice, face, everything.

*throws shoe*

She wasn't auburn and peach-skinned, that is due to the lighting of the room. I can see how people say she was auburn (which she wasn't) but I don't see where the "peachy-skinned" comes from.

I wonder how many times I've said this now.

I didn't see any resemblance to Jennifer Garner in the first game, but it's hard to see celebrity resemblances in video game characters, usually, unless they are intended, like Miranda in ME2.  In that case, I actually think the character might have been better off without the "uncanny valley" resemblance to a real person.

I love Isabela's new look, and I think that once the game comes out, any complaints people had about her appearance will go away, much like they did with Morrigan.

ok........I MAY be a little weird but......I would have liked if Isabela's skin had not been that flawless. She is a fighter, she should have at least a few scars (nothing hideous mind you) but a couple here and there would have only added to her allure
