I am not interested to read  the definition for your word, much less answer to your question, but for artist's sake I say my comment means literally what was written.

David said in the Fenris thread that all of the companions 1) Have a character hook, and 2) Have a stake in the story.

Number 2 is interesting for Isabela as she seems to be a drifter. There's something that's happening that she cares deeply about.

I wonder if the qunari are trying to take back Rivaini?

That only matters if Isabela is a patriot or nationalist.  But if she is it would work.

On a non-personal level?  Yes, I think so.   I mean, we're talking about beyond simply being bummed out by the news if that's going to be her hook into the plot, right?
