thank you. *salutes*

Right, just say promiscuous. It means exactly what the people using "sl*t" are going for and doesn't have the same insulting stigma. The English language has options, folks, and when you choose the one that is near-universally thought of as an insult, you're making a statement about yourself and your opinion that you may not intend that will result in a potentially hostile reaction. Use the other words at your disposal, they can help you make your point without having to come off as insulting.

Darn it, I mixed up Rivain and Nevarra again. Go me.

But how would Hawke get in party with Isabela anyhow? The game footage seemed like meeting up with her happens rather early. I forgot about Hawkes leaving Ferelden from Gwaren, so perhaps that leaves any shared boat-ride out of any speculation.

I had a very interesting but a narrow hunch that Cassandra and Isabela might be related somehow. Yes, it is a stretch from just some Rivaini heritage, but could be interesting. Maybe they know each other somehow? Maybe they are family? Could be an interesting plotline.

Isabela is Rivaini. Cassandra is Nevarran, and a member of the Pentaghast family-- so, no, not even a remote relation. :)

Yep, just had to rub it in, did you not, monsieur Gaider? *runs off crying*

*comes back* Does Isabela's ship play any important role, I wonder...

don't forget that she's a pirate, maybe she'll try to board your ship on your way to kirkwall:wizard:

Cassandra Pentaghast?

What's Isabela's full name?

Why did I not think of that?! That sounds fabulous. But the timing seems rather narrow still. The Warden had to go to Denerim rather fast and meet Isabela.

Cassandra Pentaghast, has a ring to it. I wonder if the Nevarran lands are being threatened then if she is pumping Varrick for info on the Hero of Kirkwall?

How does any weird follower end up in your party? By an odd confuence of events.

In other words, you'll have to wait and find out. ;)

I'll say this once and once only: you are not in a position to tell someone that they should "let go" of the stigma attached to those words. They are charged for a reason, and that's because they've been historically used as derogratory insults. Telling a woman that she shouldn't be offended by the word "sl*t" because it's factual would be like telling a black person that they shouldn't be offended by the n-word or a gay person that they shouldn't be offended by the f-word. After all, aren't those words just descriptions for something that is true?

Words have power. And misogyny has no place on these forums-- and pretending it isn't misogyny reeks of male privilege. As I've said, Isabela is a fictional character who's not about to be insulted by anything you say, but her gender is very real and you (and others on these threads) need to take this into consideration when you start casually tossing around such words.

That's all fair and true, and in my defense I would like to say that I pointed the same thing out to dan in a pervious thread, that all he had to do was use a different word and issue would go away. Progress comes needs to come from both sides, though. It's not a war with winners and losers, it's constant improvment in how everyone treats everyone else.

Anyway...
I don't see why people are viewing this as derailing though. It's not off topic. This is the character. These are peoples opinions of the chraracters. It doesn't becom e on topic when everyone agrees that she's great. If you want to talk about Isabela then there are going to be people who show up to say that they don't like her. It's equally as rude to say "well then don't romance her. You don't have to." That's implies that there is much of anything else to talk about right now. It's safe to assume that there will be other romances to talk about later, but right now there is only Isabela. So folks would like those of us that are disapointed with the images we've gotten and/or the nature of the character to go sit quitly in a corner and leave only gush threads to exist purely for gushing? Sorry, but that's not going to happen. They lock the negative threads, so we talk about our opinions here instead. I don't see how that's unfair in the slightest.

First thing I noticed about Isabela's redesign is her outfit mimics Lightning's (FFXIII). Probably just a coincidence. I'm assuming she'll have the same voice actress from Origins too?

That's the royal family of Nevarra, and the dragon hunters that were responsible for (almost) wiping out dragons from the face of Thedas hundreds of years ago.

David confirmed in the first Isabela thread (in response to me, in fact) that there's a new voice actress but she should sound about the same.

I agree with you there, if there is to be one thread for Isabela talk, then it has to entertain all views therein.

The problem isn't the negative opinions, it is the way in which they are being expressed.  Using loaded terminology leads to problems and gets the thread in trouble, so don't do it.

Nope, Ms. Chee said the new VA does not work on any previous BioWare's game.

Hmmm...that's too bad.  Her Origin's voice is really nice.

@the_one: For the millionth time, no one is telling you that you have to fawn over Isabela or GTFO. All we're saying is, watch the language you're using to express your dislike. Is that so hard to understand?

@Gaider: A royal huh? Cass is so cool

Maybe Isabela took the Hawke family on a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

Does seem kind of odd that a pirate would become a companion to the PC. Maybe Isabela loses her boat somehow.

I hadn't thought about it, but yeah they are reminiscent of each other. The blade style on her daggers isn't all that different from Lightning's either.

Is someone suggesting that you shouldn't be able to express your dislike for Isabela (based on what you know)? Not at all-- or, at least, we're not suggesting that. You (and by that I mean everyone) are just going to have to be able to express your dislike without simultaneously being inflammatory and/or insulting the female gender. Some people seem to default to that kind of talk on the internet as if it were acceptable, as if the consequences for saying them should be different than speaking them out loud to people in real life, but it's not so. Moderate your words and avoid sweeping generalizations and I'm sure the reaction you get will rise to your level.

And if it doesn't, and there are people that are indeed becoming aggressive should someone say anything bad about their favorite character, then their behavior will need to stand out on its own. It's not an excuse to indulge in something similar or worse.
