What's Isabela's full name?

She just goes by Isabela.

It's not her birthname, but no one knows what that is.

Edit: And she's not Morrigan's mother. Morrigan's mother is Flemeth. Isabela is not Flemeth in disguise.

Here is a quick thought that came to me as I was watching the new trailer.

We know that Hawke being Morrigan's child is out the window, but is it possible that Isabella is Morrigan's real mother?

I believe that the time line that bioware gave us fits this theory. What do you guys think?

Not remotely possible unless Morrigan is a time traveler. Isabela is in her 20s in the beginning of the game, when Morrigan is with the Warden.

Yes, but how do we know that the beginning of the game is not 30 years in the past? We know that the game will take place between a 30 year time span. Morrigan can be taken away by Flemeth at the very beginning of the game and it would make sense.

It takes place over a 10-year span, actually. We know when it happens because the devs have told us. It starts when Lothering is destroyed, which is in the beginning of the first game.

 They somewhat look alike

They both kinda have yellowish eyes and dark hair.  That's where the similarities end.

i'm curious, does isabela resent the qunari and the qun for invading rivain? or is she indifferent to her country's politics?

I don't care about Isabela's last name, I want to know if her pirate ship is a galley or some kind of barque or sloop...

Are we sure that Isabela isn't actually Anora's secret alter-ego?

There is a difference between insulting the female gender and calling a duck a duck. Isabel is promiscious. You guys wrote her that way. While I'm sure she has her reasons for it ( just like Zevran did ) that doesn't excuse it. We had countless of threads labeling Zevran a shameless man**** ( which he by all means was ) and I didn't see a single one of them get moderated.

There's a lot of double standards at work here.

Believe what you like. The difference when it pertains to minorities or groups that have been traditionally persecuted should be obvious to anyone with any degree of sensitivity. I didn't care for some of the talk about Zevran either, but it wasn't nearly on the same level as this-- and there were indeed threads that got closed down about Zevran when the hostile gay-talk went too far.

And you're free to call Isabela promiscuous, if you like. She is, obviously, and rather unapologetic about it. That's a far different tone from some of the "sl*t-shaming" we're seeing going on in these threads, and saying they are comparable goes beyond splitting hairs.

And please don't respond to this further. I'm not looking to engage in a discussion on this-- I've provided the guideline under which this thread can continue, and further blatant violations will result in action. That's all there is to it. Thanks.

I think sloop is kind of a funny word. My guess would be a galley, though. More efficient as a pirate ship.

maybe a caravel? those were pretty efficient for hit and run tactics.

Well, it's more maneuverable and certainly makes boarding actions easier, especially in low-wind.  But it also has a much larger crew which means the prize money in split between more people.  Sailing vessels required less crew and were much more seaworthy, but had issues in battle against galleys in still waters like the Mediterranean.

The geography of Thedas though leads me to believe that a pirate ship in the area wouldn't really need to be much of a blue-water vessel so I'd really expect a galley.

Well, a caravel is nice for small operations, but it can't carry nearly as much cargo as a galley, and after all, that is what being a pirate is all about.

I wonder if, within her character, there would be any easter eggs about Zeveran. If he himself doesn't make a cameo within the game.

Also, seeing that Isabela has to be in Denerim for the Warden to meet she might not be a character you get very quickly.

And on ANOTHER note ;) I wonder if she is still the way to get the duelist specialization

Yeah, but you had guns.  We've yet to see a cannon in Dragon Age as far as I know.  I expect the ram-and-board tactic is still the predominant method of naval warfare in Thedas.

I wonder if we'll be seeing Zev again. The fact that Isabela is the same one from Origins makes it a lot more likely.

For the folks that see empowered and equal portrayals of females as a positive thing, you really need to let go of the stigma attached to these words that were once seen as insults. Otherwise the stigma, the judgments and the negative connotations of the behavior never go away. And these roles will never be seen in a truly positive way. You only add to the problem by getting insulted by it.

I'll say this once and once only: you are not in a position to tell someone that they should "let go" of the stigma attached to those words. They are charged for a reason, and that's because they've been historically used as derogratory insults. Telling a woman that she shouldn't be offended by the word "sl*t" because it's factual would be like telling a black person that they shouldn't be offended by the n-word or a gay person that they shouldn't be offended by the f-word. After all, aren't those words just descriptions for something that is true?

Words have power. And misogyny has no place on these forums-- and pretending it isn't misogyny reeks of male privilege. As I've said, Isabela is a fictional character who's not about to be insulted by anything you say, but her gender is very real and you (and others on these threads) need to take this into consideration when you start casually tossing around such words.

Characters in the game (and indeed your own PC) can take various attitudes towards Isabela's sexual proclivities-- but that's in the game. In real life and on these forums you will need to moderate what you say out of respect for your fellow posters or we will need to step in and moderate it for you. That's why these discussions keep getting closed, and pretty soon it'll lead to people being disinvited from these forums if they don't know how to conduct themselves in public.

And that's it. Thanks for your attention.

Just to clarify, you're saying it's okay to use these "nasty words" to describe characters in this game? We're just not allowed to use them to describe actual people? Granted, I haven't read this discussion, but that's what I'm getting from your posts. I think the general rulings concerning words here is way too sensitive and question the use of the 'n' word as part of your argument (since many of my fellow members in the african American community use the word in a different and acceptable context ), but what I'm guessing you're saying right now is at least somewhat reasonable.

EDIT: Just read some other posts. NVM.

i wonder if the qunari have a monopoly on that market, i can see isabela swiping some for her own ship.

I thought caravels and galleys had similar cargo capacity (50-150 tons). I kind of figured that the seas around Thedas, would require something more seaworthy than a galley unless restricted to the Waking Sea.
