Oooh I didn't know we have an Isabela's thread here! I like.

And no, I don't think it's easy to make Isabela a rival since you gotta get her friendship at the end of Act2. Beside, I find it very very hard to make her disapprove my Hawke haha, even ones that do not romance her.

Maybe it's just my naive self, but I never got the impression that they had sex. I would think they would have recognized each other right off the bat like Izzy does with Leliana, Ali and Zev. Instead it's, "hey, you're the chick that liked that one girl," and, "you're the dude that can do that lightning stuff!" Sounded like they saw each other partying and doing their own separate thing at the Pearl rather than actually do anything together.

Since I'm such a big fan of Izzy and this is her thread, I'll go ahead and bring up the subject of DLC for her. What do you guys think? My idea for her DLC would be centered on the time after meeting the warden to the time she arrives in Kirkwall. It could show how, she stole the relic, how she let the captives go which put her on bad terms, with Castillion and even a quick flashback to her mother selling her. Opinions??? Suggestions???

I know Leliana makes an appearance right at the end of the game, but I never actually met her during the game. Does this have anything to do with DA:O imported saves? Or did I just do something wrong not to get to meet her? (Alistair I never met either, but he stormed off and became a drunk at the end of the DA:O imported save, or Zevran, who I didn't kill, but didn't romance either. Oh, the save I imported had the Warden (an elf mage) romancing Leliana.)

As for Isabela, I want to try the rival-mance with her, but I am not sure what I have to do to be her rival.

My impression was that it didn't matter whether you were a rival or a friend, so long as it was sufficently high enough for her to come back.

I like those ideas. Any thing that gives a greater insight into her character would be wonderful in a DLC.

I tried. I went out of my way to chase her rivalry points, just to see how it would turn out. But playing boring hawke quickly became....well boring. So I stopped. Up to the middle part of act 2, I didn't see any rivalry romance prompts. Only the friendship one where you flirt with her in the bar. Earning you a massive 25 friendship points so can't touch that one.

In fact, looking over the romance guide thread, it appears Isabela is the only one lacking a rivalrymance?

You can rivalrymance her.

Getting her to rivalry is difficult. My original PC ate rainbows and crapped sunshine, but she was also polite and helpful with Isabela. I restarted my warrior today in an effort to get her rivalry and am at -40 with Isabela. Merrill is at +65. I just entered the Deep Roads.

Hopefully, as I'm already at -40, she'll start taking my 'friendly' comments as annoying and my gifts as insulting.

I think you only see her before the end during some DLC content, so if you don't have that then you won't meet her.

Rivaling Isabela's difficult but I like her rivarly arc more than the friendship one. I've only ever friendmanced her and rivalfriended(?) her, but I liked the latter a lot more. The end is sweeter and the middle is hilarious (well, "hilarious." I just really like the opening joke).

Interesting. Will have to do a playthrough and just sticking with it. Shame I have to play a character I detest to gather the points. Are you required to flirt with her in the bar to initiate it or can you skip it? As it rewards massive friendship. Even at 70 % rivalry.

Sister Nightingale IS Leliana.

Okay, I'm slightly convinced. Can you tell me how it is different? I just can't see Isabela treating anyone roughly, but that's just me.

I just finished the game with the pirate siren as my Hawke's romance.
Isabela is deh awesomesauce...

I loved her kiss in the tavern, the play on shadows was surprisingly chaste.

Well, it probably isn't super-different (I think you can only access one final Questioning Beliefs event for Isabela with the console, whereas you can choose either rivalry or friendship for anyone else. the dialogue is different, though), and again, I didn't romance as a rival, but at the end she's like, "You've always thought of me as a stronger person than I actually am." I don't think you get that as a friend, although you might. I liked it. I felt like her reformation was earned. Her first Questioning Beliefs event is just her getting drunk and being all, "okay, AVELINE, I really don't want to talk to you. Because you suck." Good times.

Thanks everyone for the answers about Leliana. I guess I'll have to splurge and buy the DLC. (Have to get my Leliana hit somehow!)

But back to Isabela...

Is it just me, or is there some kind of subtext going on between Isabela and Aveline? I listened to their banter, and maybe I'm just overly sensitive, but it's almost affectionate hostility - which is more prominent later on in the game than earlier.

I tried on my casual playthrough with my mean Hawke. I didn't get enough rival points and my
Hawke gave her the Ship in a bottle and called her ****. I think that Ship has
sailed...

I delete him, I don't want Isabela to run away.

Well, for first, to even get her come back after act 2 you have to get her friendship over +50. So rivalry from there must be nearly impossible. Tell me how you succeed!

Isabela's the coolest. I'm so romancing her. The game is so much better with her in it.

Not true. She returns as a rival. You just need to hit the midway point in either direction.

You don't need to be Isabela's friend for her to return. Rivalry is just as nice.
