Does Isabela's rivalmance always assume Hawke is some benevolent being of rightousness? Because when I did it my Hawke was a total ass the whole game and she talked about him like he was such a great person.Maria Caliban wrote...
Finished the Isabela rivalmance with no Rest for the Wicked. Felt bad about not giving her a ship. She was remarkable tolerant about my taking away what she'd wanted for 7 years.

After playing the game twice, I sort of feel it makes more sense if only a year is skipped each time instead of three. I mean, Isabela returns with the relic, and later storms out yelling, "I didn't do it for them. It was for you! It's always been for you!"
Then three years later, she's like "I think I'm falling for you, Hawke."

Yes, she always assumes that. In my case, it was right on the money. How did you manage a rivalmance without being a paragon?

I read it more like Isabela ran off shortly after the Qunari incident and tried to put it all behind her, but ended up being unable to do so. She finally ended up returning to deal with it, when she realized the reason she actually did it. At least that's what the hopeles romantic in my head says.

I was able to max her rivalry not far into Act 2 so I was able to make all the nasty descisions for the rest of the game without gaining any friendship points. I admit I cheated and consulted the wiki a few times to find out how I could get big rivalry points from her quickly.Maria Caliban wrote...

God do I agree with you there. It's like they just put in the 3 year time jumps because it would make the story feel more epic or something. 6 month to 1 year time lapses would of made so much more sense in the story considering how little Hawke's relationship with his/her companions changes over those 3 years, as well as how little the city itself changes.

After playing a non-romantic friendship and a rivalmance, I think rivalry is more satisfying for my stupidly heroic playing style. Honestly, I was headed deep into rival territory the first play through, until I flirted with her, joked with her in the Fade, and then forgave her afterwards.ishmaeltheforsaken wrote...

Totally agreed. Those three year time gaps were poorly handled in my view. Everyone kept talking about the events of three years ago as if they had only ocurred yesterday...

Until this last play through I never gave her the ship. Even as friends, she's like - it's cool I want to stick around anyways.

Now I want to try out the rivalmance, the only problem is not only do I adore Isabela but I'm a sucker for the charming/humorous fHawke. I almost never pick the other two dialogue options. Now I'm gonna have to play a completely good Hawke just to see the rivalmance. Only for Isabela will I pass up on Hawke's odd sense of humor.
There's more to rivalmancing her than just being "completely good". My F!Hawke Mage playthrough, I've been picking the diplomatic/good options, and still had her to max friendship early in Act 2.

No, this is her codex entry after she rejoins the group at the beginning of act 3.

But being "good" doesn't necessarily mean picking the diplomatic/good dialogue option.

You can play a humorous and good Hawke or a diplomatic and good Hawke. It annoys her just as much.
I can't think of a single scene in the trailer that makes it into the game save for the shot of Varric firing Bianca.Prince of Kemet wrote...
Can anyone tell me exactly when this kiss that happens at 10:48 happens in the game? Or is it just a demo thing? Here's the link:

I rivalmanced her with a mostly humorous Hawke. I only recall one point where it netted me friendship points while the diplomatic option didn't.
