MOAR SONGS for Isabela and not just thumping pop music this time. I grew up listening to folk music in the house- Fairport Convention, Maddy Pryor, Steeleye Span, etc and so decided to plunder (yarr, plunder!) that pile of records I perticularly own.
All the songs are traditional in the sense that no one owns them, like no one owns "What Shall We Do With a Drunken Sailor," but have added the musicians who did the arrangement I found.
1)
"Just As The Tide Was Turning" by 10,000 Maniacs. I prefer the Eliza Carthy version, but I cannot find it on interbutts:
Oh, her dress it was as white as milk/ And jewels did adorn her/ Her cheeks were red, her eyes were brown/ Her hair in ringlets hanging down/ She'd a lovely brow without a frown/ Just as the tide was turning.
2)
"Lowlands Away" by Rufus Wainwright and Kate McGarrigle:
She came to me all in my sleep/ Lowlands, Lowlands, away, my John/ I dreamed I saw my own true love/ My Lowlands, away(NSFW!) 3)
"Good Ship Venus" traditional bawdy ballad! ...uhm, none of these lyrics are clean, but... "
Twas on the good ship Venus/ By Christ you should have seen us/ The figurehead/ Was a **** in bed/ And the mast a rampant penis4) "
A Long Time Ago" by Jim Nelson:
She was waiting for a fair wind to get under way/ To me way hay, oh-high-oh/ She was waiting for a fair wind to get under way/ A long time ago. 5)
"Ten Thousand Miles" by Eliza Carthy:
Fare you well my own true love/ And farewell for a while/ I’m going away, but I’ll be back/ If I go ten thousand miles
