PLEASE NO. I so hate that character. Sheryl Chee, please tell us Jack Sparrow isn't an inspiration.

Well, they both drink a lot, and wear earrings and bandanas. But I think the similarities end there?

I watched more Firefly and Star Wars (Original Flavor) while writing her plan, rather than Pirates of the Carribean.

so...female han-solo?

and damn i loved firefly, anything that comes out inspired by that is already awesome:O

If she's a female Han Solo.. I will.. just.. freaking explode with happiness and probably do something nice for Sheryl, maybe a fanart? I don't know but my mind would be blown because Han was my favouritest Star Wars character.

Alright, I believe I've designed a solution which appeases all parties on this matter of Isabela. I've created a group: http://social.biowar.../user_group.php

Ideally, those who get offended by the kind of language certain people don't mind using have the option not to join. In fact, only group members can see the comments. Everybody wins! Thoughts? Am I wasting my time? Good idea? You couldn't care less?

Oh yeah, and I like Isabela as a character from what I've seen. The fact that she is a sl---I mean, rather promiscuous, makes her an intriguing character in my eyes. Catwoman started off as a rather promiscuous woman in Frank Miller's telling of Batman, and that benefited the character. My only gripe is that the in-game rendering is plain nasty looking. But they edited Hawke's mom, so maybe they'll edit her appearance too.

TOO MANY SIMILARITIES, NEXT THING YOU KNOW YOU'LL SAY SHE'S A PIRATE!

And she has theme music written by Klaus Badelt and remixed by Tiesto!

I wonder if, within her character, there would be any easter eggs about Zeveran. If he himself doesn't make a cameo within the game.

Also, seeing that Isabela has to be in Denerim for the Warden to meet she might not be a character you get very quickly.

And on ANOTHER note ;) I wonder if she is still the way to get the duelist specialization

I think that would be an awesome way to link the two games, or either her say "O hai, I just taught these GWs this skillz!"

Or, in the case of my rogue- "And they gave me some booty in repayment!"

They lock the negative threads, so we talk about our opinions here instead. I don't see how that's unfair in the slightest.

Is someone suggesting that you shouldn't be able to express your dislike for Isabela (based on what you know)? Not at all-- or, at least, we're not suggesting that. You (and by that I mean everyone) are just going to have to be able to express your dislike without simultaneously being inflammatory and/or insulting the female gender. Some people seem to default to that kind of talk on the internet as if it were acceptable, as if the consequences for saying them should be different than speaking them out loud to people in real life, but it's not so. Moderate your words and avoid sweeping generalizations and I'm sure the reaction you get will rise to your level.

And if it doesn't, and there are people that are indeed becoming aggressive should someone say anything bad about their favorite character, then their behavior will need to stand out on its own. It's not an excuse to indulge in something similar or worse.

I applaud your stance toward women.  I expect no less from Bioware.  Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Bioware has an intersting stance toward woman

Leliana killed the men she slept with

Morrigan hates the world of man

Isabela seems................... dk much about her then from outside the pearl.

just seems bioware has some different views of men

And for me, personally, I intend to romance Isabela so I don't think I'll be having that issue. You've not had a single conversation with the character and yet you're making all sorts of judgements about her. Is that how you treat women in real life too? Take one look and assume they must be some sort of "skank" because of how they dress or because they like boys and girls?

My Warden had a "conversation" with her in DA:O. Sleeping with someone you just met 5 minutes ago in a seedy tavern, along with his friends that just happened to be there pretty objectively makes her a "woman of lose moral principles" (that better?). Which would be fine if she were to remain a 2 bit character. Making her into a full fledged romance with that as a starting point is not a good idea IMO.

You do have to talk her into it, and have a fairly high persuade skill, otherwise she turns you down.  But I'm not sure what the issue is.  Three of the four romance partners in DA:O have pasts that include multiple sexual partners, where love in not involved.  Alistair is the only love interest who is sexually inexperienced.  At least two of them have had countless sexual partners, and I get the impression Morrigan may have as well.

Please, that's silly. They don't go in the office and say "WE HATE MEN! WRITE ABOUT HOW EVIL MEN ARE!".

Not because she's some kind of sexual serial killer.  She did so because it was her job.  She was instructed by her master to complete a task, and that was just one way of getting the job done.

Zevran did it too.  It's just one way of getting close to the target when their guard is down.

In that context, "man" stands for "humans."  She isn't a fan of 'civilization.'  Considering she grew up in the Wilds with Flemeth, that seems appropriate.

In fairness, she quite probably killed some of the women too.  And she used non violent methods where possible.

The character's sexual history & Morrigan's dislike for men are to show that they are "strong independent women" I'm supportive with it most of the time but why can't bioware give us a classy gal?

If you look into those characters deeply, you will understand why they feel and think the way they do regarding men (and other women).

Anyway, I am glad to see the mods taking the language in this thread seriously. As a woman, it's good to know that we're respected around here despite what some posters get away with saying (and it sounds like they won't be getting away with much more now that the mods are keeping an eye on things). It's a shame this thread topic has generated so much controversy in the last two days or so, hopefully this thread will stay open and civil discourse will continue.

Regardless of the views the characters in the game have, the people who have created those characters show a genuine concern for their players, both men and women, and are appropriately keeping things civil on these forums. I'm not sure what point you're trying to make with your post, but if you're trying to imply there is a double-standard then I think you are flat out wrong.

They have.  Why do you think Tali has so many fans?  She worships the ground Shepard walks on.  And there was much hand-wringing over Liara growing a backbone and showing an interest in someone else, however platonic, in Mass Effect 2.

And being critical about Bioware's supposed lack of variety when we haven't even scratched the surface of possible LIs and companions in DA:2 strikes me as odd.

If Isabela isn't well received as a party member she can always take up a career in singing
