I got a quick Isabela related question . When she stole the Tome of Koslun, did she steal it form the Orlesians or the Qunari?

I know the Orlesians were intending to hand it over to the Qunari, but had they actually made the hand-off before Isabela made her move?

Thanks in advance.

She stole it from the Orlesian envoy that was on its way to deliver it to the Qunari. It was close enough that the Qunari saw this and gave chase, leading both to Kirkwall.

What interests me - and I'm guessing you guys already discussed it -- is why she stole it in the first place. For money? For the lulz?

On a somewhat related note, how the hell Varric knows it belongs to Qunari (in his banter with Isabela in act 2). No one reacts and later they all sound surprised when Isabela tells the truth.

Castillon had her steal it to pay him back for the slaves she freed.

It's actually discussed in game. Isabela was hired by Castillon to transport some cargo from point A to point B (I believe it was from Ferelden). She discovered that the cargo was a bunch of refugees who had paid Castillon to transport them to safety, but Castillon was planning on selling them as slaves. Isabela found out what the cargo was, so she freed them. Castillon was angry, so to mollify him she had to steal the relic from the Orlesian envoy (most likely because he was hired by the Tevinters).

It's implied that Castillon is associated with the Raiders of the Waking Sea.

It never really was explained, but you can probably handwave it as Varric knowing something that he didn't share.

Except Hawke is standing right there. And Varric is a really smart guy so he should have made a connection between Qunari being stuck in Kirkwall to this Qunari relic everyone is after.

But yeah I guess I should just stop thinking about it.

OT: Isabela is super awesome.

Another thought... maybe Varric was fishing, trying to see if it was true?

On another note... in honor of our glorious Captain Isabela, I propose to share some bawdy limericks. I'll begin.

A pirate as hist'ry relates
Was scuffling with some of his mates
When he slipped on a cutlass
Which rendered him nutless
And practically useless on dates

Cheers. :D

Varric is smart, but there was no reason to think that her relic might have been Qunari (not that I know of anyway).

You're horrible. And wonderful. You're hordeful.

Limericks are not my strong suit when it comes to poetry. Not enough room to manoeuvre. But if I think of one, this is totally where it's going.

When I first heard that banter I was seriously waiting for Varric to say "Ha! Got you! So it IS Qunari!" but nooo.

Ok, I came in to this way too late. And I did try my hand...the meter and all is probably wrong (been years since those English Lit classes and all):

A queen in an Orlesian palace
As a lark, puchased a phallus
She hitched up her skirts
But found that it hurt
As she lacked the proper ballast

Maybe it needs parental warnings?

A certain pirate captain loved bawdy
poems and pictures quite naughty.
Until one day she read
a script while in bed
which detailed diseases most rotty.

There's always room for poetic license. We could do haiku too:

Save her from mages!
She promises to thank you
very privately.
