I don't like her because she too fanservise- no paints, big boats. And she too wh*re. And I don' like her because default Hawke in trailer choose her. Anders the best for EVERY Hawkies- he wear very stylized dress, amasing voice and not "fanservice" like Fenris. And he is n't a lovelas who run for every woman and man.

And I don't want to see her in DA 3.

Ignoring your many assaults on coherency...Anders used to be just as much of a skank as Bela (and I use that term with utmost affection). He just isn't anymore.

And neither is Isabela, if you romance her.

And if fanservice means we get more kickass companions who are interesting, hilarious, confident and willing to empower those around them...then by all means, BW, fanservice away.

Her apperince and LI is  shameless fanservice. Even modders frirstly give her paints, not nude patch! Her ass in every time she attac irritate me.  And her LI like Morrigan (Love suck, only sex, blah-blah-blah, I love Hawke), but Isy more backstab Hawke. First with Arishok story. Second- when she saw Zevran. If Hawke won't be near she will get him a horns, wh*re!:devil:And Isabela will give him many big horns when Hawke choose her.  I want to play a man, not a passive elk! And I choose Garret+Anders.
Morrigan love Warden truly and she won't sleep with anyone who want her. Anders too. And he is more surprizing and intresting person.
Developers pleace don't made us to watch on Isaberla in DA 3. Don't do Female Characters like her again.

Your opinion of Isabela is, of course, your right to have and express. But in doing the latter, if you want to discuss the pros and cons of the character (note the thread title - "Discussion thread"), perhaps you may want to alter your tone a bit. By approaching things in an antagonistic manner, you're not really lending to the spirit of discussion.

I, for one, adored Isabela. I thought she was a fantastic character. Her appearance, while overt, seems to be a play on the "don't judge a book by the cover" - she has a great body, flaunts it, and so people may instantly categorize her as something negative. It's something that happens to women in RL - show a little skin, get labeled all manner of nastiness. Through the course of DA2 however, Isabela is shown to have courage, conviction, and loyalty. She has great affection for her friends (Merrill in particular), is confident in who she is (refer to her conversations with Aveline), and is dedicated when she finally gives in to love (evident if you play out the full romance).

I think Bioware does need more characters like her - she is different from the female cliche in a lot of games. She is formidable in a fight, and is independently minded.

So, if you want to discuss, we can discuss. But in this thread, we try not to call the pirate a wh*re.

Didn't we already do this song and dance before? I'm pretty sure it was Alistairlover94 who came into this thread, saying pretty much the same thing, trying to get the same reactions, around page 204-206 or so, except with better spelling.

Just ignore the troll and it will go away, Ladyofpayne isn't here for discussion, it is just repeating the same thing over and over. So let it finish spewing what it has to spew, then it will go away just like the others did.

In the meantime, my latest story is coming along. Almost 5,000 words so far (I've heard *that* one before...), and hopefully will be up to everyone's standards when I do finish it. I've had some good responses from an excerpt I posted to my prereaders so far. Cheers.

She i different? OMG! She is, but she has too much from Morrigan. Her LI is similar. First "You don't want to put feeling into this", next "I love only you". This is so predictable and boring.

lol, such bad trolling. I will never understand why people think trolling = having bad grammar and bad spelling. It's quite amusing.

Also, Morrigan and Isabela are ****ing AMAZING. :D

She does not "take too much from Morrigan". It's a very common romantic archetype, jeebus.

And she is not "fanservice". She doesn't dress and behave the way she does to titilate the player, she does it because she wants sex. There is a difference.

Sigh. If I ever live to see the day where people stop calling sexually confident women by derogatory slurs, I'll be very happy.

Isabela is very much a Stock BioWare Character. The dark-haired morally-dubious fiercely-independent siren, who's known a hard life of little love before the PC, and who learns by the PC's love to be slightly less morally dubious? Viconia, Morrigan, Ashley, Miranda, Isabela, hell, even Bastila largely follows the pattern.

But a) that's also my very very favorite BioWare stock character, well beyond the Carth or even the Funny Chaotic Evil Guy,
B) it's not like they just copy+paste their stock characters, it's more like... IDK, the Izzy thread seems to like food metaphors, so let's go with each character archetype is a meat, like pork, chicken, beef, whatever, and they build a different delicious meal out of it every time, it's not like bacon is "copying" pork fried rice,
and c) they finally let my female PC romance her without mods, zomg thank you FOREVER BioWare,

... so I'm perfectly okay with whatever repetition there is there.

Okay, I felt my hawke was a total sap when he said "I have waited years for you." Then with zev totally had a devils threesome, lol.

I have a hard time picturing love with isabella. Fun times, sure, but love? Is there a future there. I totally didn't mind my hawke being sappy I rp him as the trying to do everything right and no matter what everything goes wrong guy. That's why he ended up with isabela, I think she meets the chaos requirement.

@Arquen - Maybe Hawke is a romantic at heart. If you play a female Hawke, there is a bit of dialogue where she says to Isabela something along the lines of "can't you surprise me with something like flowers or cake?" Said sarcastically, of course, but maybe she really does want a nice bouquet. Having the threesome doesn't take away from any sense of romanticism. Some people might enjoy some extra players in the bedroom - that may be their thing. Maybe it was just for kicks or to check it off of the bucket list, who knows. Whatever the case (however a person wants to play it in their head canon), I don't think it removes any of the love.

Isabela's romance arc is a long one - she doesn't admit her true feelings until Act 3, but at that point, you get the sense that they are indeed genuine. They are hard-won, for Hawke and for her. Isabela has to reconcile a lot about herself, and be willing to let herself be loved (reference to the post-sex conversation). I role-played my various Hawkes a bit differently, but at no point did I ever think that Isabela was something that went wrong.

But then, I might be a romantic sap who sees Isabela and Hawke as sailing the seven seas together - all wind-blown hair and cascading sunsets and all of that. Posted Image

Ack, yes, that list of female characters you mentioned is exactly the list of LIs I adored but could never romance, because I always play female player characters, if at all possible, and don't like using mods to get the romances.  I don't mind that Bioware went back to the well when creating Isabela, because she really isn't a carbon copy of someone like Bastila or Viconia, but the general type they all fall under appeals to me.

Anyway, I am here to shamelessly promote my own art (like the licentious Isabela lover I am):

The thing about Isabela is that you don't quite get a complete picture of the romance just from the romance scenes themselves. It doesn't seem that complete, because it isn't - a lot of her growth is on her own, and you only get to see hints of that through her interaction with the rest of the game. But the hints that *are* there are significant, because of who she is and how she behaves as a result of her 'relationship' with Hawke.

It's no coincidence that she never uses the word "love" to describe how she feels toward Hawke. She only ever uses it to describe the ideal, or her past. She'd been burned before, and has a hard time with real feelings, so she prefers to keep everyone at arm's length. But if you listen to her conversations with Merrill, it starts to piece together, giving you glimpses of the relationship that she doesn't readily tell Hawke about (because it wouldn't make sense).

She'll say to Merrill that she'll leave someday if she can convince someome to come away with her - that's not something a fiercely independent pirate would do for just anyone. Not even Merrill gets the invitation. She's got two different banters based on her relationship point with Hawke - if Merrill says that Hawke likes her, she says she'll have to think about it, or she'll say she'd hope so. But the real subtle one is when Merrill asks why she's smiling, and she just says that she's just happy, then quickly changes the subject.

These all hint at changes below the surface, and while we don't see them in their entirety, they're sufficient to show the magnitude of what's happening within her. That's why I buy the romance as love and not just a fling, despite the fact she won't use the word. It's how I think she would act in such a situation.

Well, she's the only romance option for me in DA2 for both male and female playthroughs.
