Maybe that was the love that asked to marry her so she skedaddled, or the pirate who was like Hawke that she lost at sea and was very sad about. Or just one of her many crew that didn't survive the wreck. Personally I prefer door number 1.

Merrill is lovely but I always end up thinking of her as a little sister to Hawke, so romancing her would be weird. Anyway, I'm a sucker for tanned skin and sexy voices Welcome to the thread cloud, you've caught us at a quiet time I'm afraid!!

lol ive only just found this thread and it is really quiet here but oh well .... but back to isabella ....... isabella can be a bit annoying though when she flirts with other men or women when your in a romance with her but it is understandable considering her past.

Welcome...   it is quiet here because, unlike the other fan threads, there is very little to debate or discuss in this one.
Isabela is awesome, and this is unquestioned.

@ Quething: great story! I love the friendship that develops between Isabela and Aveline and you explored it really well. The flashbacks were great too, hope to read more of your work soon! And you get automatic love from me because you wrote a two-handed warrior Hawke (loved the bit about one-armed push-ups! )

I do often wonder what Isabela's limit is on how far she is willing to corrupt Merrill...

I was playing earlier and the "body shots" line came up, and it got me thinking if Izzy would ever go there, or does she see Merrill as off-limits?

I assumed something similar, when I play Hawke as romancing Isabela, both seem to act as in older sibling mentality towards Merrill, trying to keep her out of too much danger.

My interpretation of Hawke romancing Isabela at the end-game has it that Merrill and Varric were the last two companions to leave Hawke's side, with both Hawke and Isabela threatening Biana with violence if Varric doesn't look after Merrill.

Most definitely. Although, I think Isabela would threaten to leave her mark on Bianca in other ways!

Thank you! Warrior!Hawke doesn't seem to get much love in fic, it's very sad. My favorite hero archetype in video games (in fantasy in general, really) is the one Aveline is built from - the tough, sturdy, (over)protective tank who and takes the hits so the specialist types can do their flashier stuff in peace. The fun part is tweaking that a bit, making a buff show-off two-handed snarker where you'd expect a modest s&b diplomat, or whatever.

Plus snarky!Hawke and Isabela are just ridiculously perfect together.

Aye that is my favourite group. Always happy and fun together. Problem is you have to play Warrior and not on nightmare for it to work.

I think its because they all take the madness of Kirkwall in their stride. Why else do Varric and Isabela have as their base of operations, "The Hanged Man" and worry that if they survive the final battle they won't have anywhere to drink!

Personally, I reckon that in Act 1, Varric only wanted Aveline to petition the Viscount as a formality, he's probably secretly been running "The Hanged Man" for years and just wanted to make it official. Why else aren't Hawke and Isabela banned after all the trouble they cause in that place

I too always use Isabela, Merrill and swap sporadically between Varric and Aveline, it's the 'best party in the world' and sure gets everything covered when playing 2H warrior. And the dialogue!!!

@Sifr1449: I think you may have a point there you know, Isabela should definately have been barred by now...then again its normally idiots and thugs being killed so a smart bartender would view it as a 'public service' *insert rude joke about getting fresh in public places here*
