Raise her approval (Friendship or Rivalry) to 50%, then complete her Questioning Beliefs quest before doing her Act 2 companion quest (To Catch a Thief). You have to do the Questioning Beliefs quest, and that only triggers when she reaches 50%. If you have other Isabela-related questions, I'd suggest reading the Isabela FAQ in my sig.

You can romance Isabela after sleeping with Fenris, but Anders and Merrill are romantic juggernauts who smash all in their path.

A new Snacking story will be out soon... it's currently about 80% complete at the moment (around 9000 words out of an estimated 11,000 or so?). As for stories similar to mine... the others out there tend to be angstier fare than what I write, but there are a few I enjoyed. Just use ff.net's character filter and you'll find some decent stuff.

It started with just feeling like the characters had so much potential, but that we didn't get to see much of their interaction in the game. So I extrapolated what I thought they would act and what they would say in various situations I thought would be interesting, and then wrote that down. I keep writing as long as I keep having ideas for situations I think would be interesting. It's kind of like Varric says in Legacy, the characters drive it and I just write down what they say.

As for planning the stories... I usually start with some sort of scenario, or punchline, or some idea. Like... the whole idea of Crossed was based on the two feeling jealous. Yesterday was based on stories like the Hangover. The story I am currently working on is a collection of 5 shorts (each ~1k-2k words), and one of them is because someone asked me "Why doesn't Isabela use a bow?" I thought about it, and an answer popped into my head, and soon the story was writing itself. I fill in the various details as the story progresses, and I keep a document of story ideas that I come across that I think would be interesting. As long as that document isn't empty, I have more material to write.

I do enjoy writing the stories. It's fun to be able to explore the characters, and to look at situations in the game that weren't quite explained (e.g. the beginning of Act 2, with Fenris, Isabela and Bran, which I explored a bit in Amuse-Bouche). Also, quite a few people have told me how much they enjoy my work, and that they look forward to more of it. I don't want to disappoint them either, and they usually have nice things to say to me about them.

so, i intended this last hawke to romance fenris, but izzy got to her first. that smuggler is just so charming, i couldn't turn her down. so, i'm actually stopping in b/c i think i may have goofed the order of things - i can't seem to find any definitive word on things.

after 'girly time' i let my hawke play it cool and say it meant nothing (though i know she was lying through her teeth. she tends to do that). anyhow, does that bug the izzy romance so that it doesn't actually continue? also, my femhawke is a total flirt and i take just about any flirt option i'm given for her. will that also kill the romance? just curious, because i want to see her end up with izzy, i just realized how i was RPing this might ruin her chances with the pirate queen.

Unfortunately, usually yes. When she asks if you're thinking about bringing feelings into it, you have to pick the top option and ask her about love. Past that, you're good, just avoid heartbreak icons, but that first one is a complete trap.

Possibly. You can flirt with Aveline, Varric and random NPCs as much as you like. Fenris and Sebastian you have a certain amount of leeway with. Anders and Merrill you have to be really careful. One or two flirts can be safe, but if you provoke one of the other three to visit your house, you've probably tanked yourself, even if you send them away un-slept-with.

Idle question for the Izzymancers: do your Hawkes always duel the Arishok when they romance Isabela? I have one who just went for the group fight and it felt kind of strange. Certainly I can't think of any fanfic that doesn't assume duel.

I read that the duel was a pain, so I've never attempted it. Watching it on YouTube is painful enough.

If they'd written it so that a romanced Isabela gave you a special dialogue after you dueled for her... now that would be neat.
