I really can't imagine the Arishok to be the kind of guy to run around throwing furniture at his opponent. Maybe cannonballs...

I think he could have had less health and had his knockback abilities cut down a bit to only be a threat on well telegraphed attacks such as his charge. A warrior should be able to stand toe to toe with him. He should be able to be knocked back as well, with a particularly mighty blow /magic.

Maybe there could have been the option for all classes to have a second, like in the Provings... "Many of your kind are frail and not suited for single combat, I would not think less of you for choosing a Second" etc... so you could have a warrior to keep him occupied and not get knocked around. Of course he'd have a Second of his own.

Thanks for clarifying. Maybe the Arishok can just throw lances, it would look more....elegant and professional than furniture.
Good ideas, I think they would have made the fight enjoyable at least. I hope devs saw it, but it seems they tried to fix the problem in Legacy.

You need to do the Questioning Beliefs quest that is triggered at 50% approval (friendship or rivalry) before starting her companion quest (To Catch a Thief) for her to come back. She won't return until the very climax of act 2. If you don't complete the quest, she won't return regardless of her approval rating. For further information, I suggest clicking the Isabela FAQ link in my sig.

It's super awesome when she does, and you have a great FAQ. Thanks!

Thanks for this information. But I'll use this opportunity to say that of course I saw the climax of act 2 several times in order to try this and defeated the Arishok regularly without much problem...

It's a very common question (which is why it's on the FAQ). I've found some people expect her to return much earlier, and are surprised that it's so late in the act that she does make her Big Damn Heroes moment. Not saying you did that, but just covering the bases just in case you (or others) did. Glad you had no problems with the Arishok, though.

Well, it's just a problem because I seem to have gotten her rather lately and apparently didn't have her around often enough (although quite often, in fact). Because now I've no chance of making her companion quest without going all too far back in my savegames. And I guess mages have it somewhat easier against the Arishok.

Thought you guys might appreciate this.
I was replaying Legacy yesterday and got an accidental quote. It was in the middle of a battle and my Hawke was saying something when Isabela was unfortunately knocked out and Hawke of course called out her name in panic. The end result was "I need Isabela!"

Don't we all.

I'd buy one.
I found it pretty hilarious seeing as the only reason I was playing was because I'd been struck by an acute withdrawal from snarky pantsless pirate banter. DA2 without Isabela isn't nearly as enjoyable. All my attempts to see what happens if you play without her around have ended in failure.

I know the feeling. My snarky pantsless pirate banter addiction had gotten so acute that I started writing my own.

There should have been a sweet cutscene when after you deplete his health, there is a cutscene of Hawke and Arishok fighting to the death and Hawke does a finishing blow depending on her/his class, similar to Cory.

 I hit the fanfiction stage months ago, I'm just not as consistent with posting as you are. (I've read snacking and enjoyed every moment of it. You are awesome.) All things considered I think it's that I'm talking at you that makes my Isabela addiction so obvious, I'm more of a forum lurker than contributor.

I have a dude!Hawke in Act II who's been holding off on Isabela's QB so I can see Fenris manipulate the Arishok. It's already a little sad and she isn't even gone yet. I think I'm going to reload once I get past the Meredith/Orsino argument. I'll just YouTube the start of Aveline's final QB or something.

I actually think there's a glitch that Isabella doesn't reappear. After she's gone in Act 3, my Hawke still has her "Thumbs Up" bonus in the abilities section. I think that is because she approves enough to stay by me immediately after the dialogue in which I promised to give her the book (which I still think is a pointless and incomprehensible option - the town is at war), but the trigger for her to disappear happens somewhere in the middle or at the beginning of the dialogue. So she is gone, but I get her "behind the back" bonus nonetheless.

Well, so, don't do it then.

I actually don't care much for either choice, usually; telling her to hand it over is really... IDK, domineering? You're not actually the boss of her, at least not from an in-game perspective. At the very least Hawke should say "we need to hand it over to prevent a war" and not "you WILL give it back" (and not even mention the potential consequences at all). But telling her to keep it isn't much better, you have to be all "you need this to save your life!" which... I have zero Hawkes ever who actually believe that. I have Hawkes who'd hand it over because Bela's their friend and they'll follow her lead in what's clearly her affair, or because f*ck the Qunari anyway, but none who actually think her situation is all that dire or immediate.

Though as a Izzymancing Hawke I definitely prefer telling her to hand it over, because the "you've been an ally" bit in the letter if you let her have it just does not work for me.

I don't like Isabelamance because it only for "sex and forget". I hope in DA 3 won't be woman for LI like her again.

Any of the romances could be seen that way, if that's the way you play.

For me, Isabela's romance is awesome, especially as a female player character, because we've never had a fierce, independent woman like her as a love interest, EVER.  I really, really hope we get more f/f LIs like her in the future.  I don't need a female LI who falls desperately in love the moment she sees my PC.  I want to earn the respect and love of an LI, even if it takes years of game time.

Even Isabela's one "damsel in distress" moment, where you get to duel the Arishok for her, is awesome, because she so obviously doesn't need Hawke, but getting to save her, especially as a female character, was great.

Please, Bioware, more fierce female LIs for f/f relationships.  I'm so tired of lusting after characters who I can only romance through mods.

Whats best, a rivalmance or friendmance with Izzy? Does it make a big difference with male or female Hawke?

You can ignore Ladyofpayne. She occasionally comes into this thread to try to troll, and she's done it before. I agree with you though; I liked that aspect of Isabela a lot - the last woman I can remember who could act anything like this in the past was Viconia.

Well there was Morrigan. She was super fierce and independent she just wasn't overtly sexual with everyone. You don't have to sleep around to be a independent female.

Not that the sexuality of Isabela is a downside for her, it's her character. I love her for it.

Morrigan did sleep around. She was rather open about it as well.

Though she didn't seem to have near as much fun sleeping around as Isabela does.

Where do you get that impression? I mean I admit she is no blushing virgin but, she isn't chock full of sexual deviance either. Other then her flirtation with Sten but that was obviously attempts at making Sten uncomfortable. I just mean to say that Morrigan didn't use her sexuality as a war hammer. It didn't make her any less of a strong independent female character.

Bioware seem to do 2 romance paths - the <insert derogatory name of woman who sleeps around but bioware censors> who falls in love with you or the long committed relationship. Morrigon and Isabela fall into the former, but as people they are practically polar opposites.

I think Maria talks about the fact that Morrigan is all "Hoo boy, my tent sure is cold. Would you like to "heat it up"?" five minutes after you made your first camp :D
