For Morrigan, sex was merely a tool, whereas Izzy does it for the fun.

I prefer the friendmance, mostly because the rivalmance doesn't feel quite so fleshed out. The actual sex scene is the same for both, and I don't feel it captures the feeling of the rivalmance that well, since it doesn't address how different the personalities are in the rivalry. If they had crafted more scenes for the rivalry, I probably would have liked it better. But the non-Isabela-specific scenes (post-kidnapping scene, comfort scene after All That Remains, etc.) don't feel right with the rivalry.
There isn't a real big difference between Dude Hawke or Lady Hawke; mostly just what she says during the seduction. I like lady Hawke's delivery though, so I stuck with her.

That and I'm always questioning myself if Izzy really would be into Garrets beard... thing. It looks scratchy.
Is that the right word? I'm confused. Scratchy... itchy... prickly. Whatever

Well, so, don't do it then.
What bothers me about it has nothing to do with me doing it or not. It's the characterisation. It's also not about sympathetic/unsympathetic characterisation. But more about the baffling nature of it. Who would insist on his or her "right" for something stolen, while the town is being slaughtered at the moment for reason of this stolen thing, while only a moment before being embarassed about admitting being responsible? It may be "consistent" with Isabella stealing the thing in the first place, but it's not consistent with a human being's psychology whatsoever. It's a pointless choice and for being some kind of "canon" storytelling choice (she gives a big approval rating so its crucial to her path), it's dazzling. The justification of her being afraid without it only makes it worse in the face of her being a deadly killer on par with anyone and part of a party of the deadliest creature's around. It doesn't break the game, or anything like that, it is however an example of exceedingly strange writing.

Um... I think you're confusing the situation. When Isabela asks for the tome, there is no war. There's no fighting. There's no slaughter. When Isabela asks for the tome, it's notably before the Qunari attack. She runs off *before* the Qunari attack. There's no indicator that there is an imminent surprise attack at that point any more than there had been (overall tensions rising, etc.). Isabela asks for the book after defeating a band of Qunari, sure. Then, *after* she runs off, the attack happens. Nobody could have known the Qunari were going to attack right then. If you want to blame Isabela for asking for the tome before the Qunari attacked, you might as well blame the Viscount and Aveline for not seeing the writing on the wall and preparing properly either.

The way I saw it was that Castillon had a far greater influence over Isabela's life than was revealed. He is probably much more ruthless and has much more power than we realize. Not giving him the tome might mean Isabela would be forever sleeping with one eye open. Killing him may amount to the same thing as vengeance would be wrought upon her by his partners or successors.
Act 2 Isabela is still very selfish, but she's on the cusp of maturing, shifting her priorities - seeing the bigger picture and the greater good. Which is why she returns.
That's the way I look at it at least, for what it's worth.
EDIT: Removed a mistake with the timeline.

Any of the romances could be seen that way, if that's the way you play.
For me, Isabela's romance is awesome, especially as a female player character, because we've never had a fierce, independent woman like her as a love interest, EVER. I really, really hope we get more f/f LIs like her in the future. I don't need a female LI who falls desperately in love the moment she sees my PC. I want to earn the respect and love of an LI, even if it takes years of game time.
Even Isabela's one "damsel in distress" moment, where you get to duel the Arishok for her, is awesome, because she so obviously doesn't need Hawke, but getting to save her, especially as a female character, was great.
Please, Bioware, more fierce female LIs for f/f relationships. I'm so tired of lusting after characters who I can only romance through mods.
You can ignore Ladyofpayne. She occasionally comes into this thread to try to troll, and she's done it before. I agree with you though; I liked that aspect of Isabela a lot - the last woman I can remember who could act anything like this in the past was Viconia.
I am not troll. I just don't like Isabela and don't want to see her in DA 3. Especially I don't want her suggestion to sleep with my new PC. Or you think I am troll just because don't love isabela? Isabela is not so bad because of Merill but as person she has nothing from Anders and Morrigan charming, willpower and loyality to Hawke.

Nope. You're a troll because you walk into the Izzy fan thread with that opinion and try to... äh... do what exactly? Make your opinion known elsewhere and nobody will complain ;D
Ah crap. I just fed the troll. Somebody should bring up a different discussion topic! Quick!
Ah... I know something.
@hooray May I ask about the progress of a new Snacking chapter? I'm eagerly awaiting new stories to satisfy the fanboy in me. Isabela and Lady Hawke are pretty awesome by themselves but when you write them it gets even better. Kudos to you for that

Ah, time to change the locks again!
It's early...and I'm still sipping my first cup of coffee, so this might not be the best topic (and I'm too lazy to sift through the previous pages to see if it's been brought up before, so forgive me, if so).TobiTobsen wrote...

Since we never get to see the interior of Isabela's room at the Hanged Man (and I'm assuming it's not that room that is more or less across from Varric's), what do you think it looks like? Over the course of her time in Kirkwall, do you think she has added anything to the decor? Does she have momentos from her adventures perched on an end table? Is there a small shelf with her collection of steamy novels? Discuss!

Unmade bed, naughty stories like "Hessarians Spear" and her own fanfiction everywhere, some sketches she made to spice the stories up, Varrics novels and stuff like that scattered around and maybe a bottle of whiskey somewhere.
Maybe some of her favorite daggers at the wall, some "decorations" she carved into the wood walls and some equipment to mix poison on a table somewhere.
But most importantly the ship in a bottle, that Hawke gave her, on a small shelf.
Do they have mirrors in Thedas? I could see Isabela as a person who has a mirror at the ceiling above her bed

They do have mirrors (besides Eluvian) - Morrigan has one. Or rather, she can get one as a gift in DA:O. Now, a full length one to mount on the ceiling...you may be giving the construction of the Hanged Man more credit than is due.

Ah yes I forgot about Morrigans handmirror. We can see the halla? I never noticed that. Where does she place it?
And you're probably right. Being squashed by a mirror isn't a great way to die

All my prereaders have liked this one a lot, so I am hoping that the regular readers will enjoy it.
I always imagined Isabela's room being messy, but not with many valuables in it (it is the Hanged Man after all). I imagined that she probably has her 'drawer' equivalent at Hawke's place too... a place where she keeps her things (or, rather, where Bodahn puts her things that she leaves about). I do agree though; the ship in the bottle is likely at her room in the Hanged Man.

"Girly fun... like shopping?"
And yeah, Isabela is better as a Friendmance, simply because Rivalmance dialogue is not fleshed out. The difference currently is only a few lines, when really the romance should be completely different like Merrills.
Maybe even moving the romance scene to act 3 for rivalmance, since only way to sleep with her seems to be that you will be a fun ride.
And Hawks comments like "Love? What said anything about Love? I just want a little good ol lust!" and Isabela trying to get a threesome with Zevran don't really make sense on a rivalmance, but are hilarious on friendmance.

They should just search Isabelas boots. They would find Merril dropping marbles into them

Loved the new chapter hooray, very sexy and as always you totally pegged the characters. And I love that you include Merrill so much, she is probably my second favourite companion after Izzy (that's not at all a biased opinion, since I'm completely in love with Eve Myles). Once again, I'll be waiting for the next installment!

I should start reading series when they are already finished. Otherwise I'll always get whithdrawl symptoms while I'm waiting for a new chapter
I simply adore how you write and describe the attraction between Izzy and Hawke, Hooray. I'm pretty thankful that there are people out there who compensate my total lack of creativity and enrich the canon background of a setting

Except now I've got this whole idea percolating in my head about a time traveling Isabela meeting herself. I might have to explore that.
Time travel would be a little tricky to pull off within the DA setting, without the use of magic... (cue Merrill and her mysterious mirror).
I've always thought that a fic exploring the younger Isabela's story (her marriage, how she came to leave Rivain and become a pirate / duelist, etc) would be very interesting.
