I told you guys I was writing a story about why Isabela doesn't use a bow about 3 weeks ago. It just took a lot longer than I thought it would to do the other two shots. Hope you enjoyed them all. Maybe I should try some more of those Isabela-related kmeme fills.
Toooootally should. There is a tragic dearth of fHawke!Izzy on the kmeme.

Think that's one of the main reasons I didn't bother with it before.

I love that line, when you just right-click on her in the chantry...she's just summed up my entire viewpoint on old historic/religious buildings etc...

At least I think you have to flirt with her. Does somebody know if she will show up at the estate for some fun time even if you didn't flirt with her? I mean.... not flirtig with Izzy... is that even possible?

I have a question for all my fellow Isabela lovers. If you sleep with her in act II, but tell her it was casual, can you persue a romance with someone else, or are you locked in?
Sleeping with Isabela won't affect a Merrill or Anders romance. It will stop a Fenris romance, unless you don't activate the romance until after sleeping with Isabela.

There are a few banters that change if you don't pursue Isabela; I found the one with Merrill tugged my heartstrings the most (so much so that I actually went back and edited my romance flags).
The one that happens when you start Izzy's romance but choose Merril over her?

If that's the one she's talking about, with that brief hesitation on Isabela's part, then yeah...a small stab to the gut. I'm doing a playthrough with a Merrill romance right now, and I had a healthy dollop of guilt when that dialogue came up.TobiTobsen wrote...

That's the one. Oddly, Isabela's romance-related banters all seem much more subtle than the others'. Given how subtle she is about other things, I actually find it quite refreshing.

I got that dialogue by accident the first time... was trying to sleep with both women, and figured like other BW games, there'd be a "them or me" moment coming up where I could make the final choice.
Had no idea Merrill would turn out to be the "romantic juggernaut" and cancel out Iz's romance.

I assume we're talking about the dialogue in the Hanged Man, where Isabela says something like, "Be good to Merrill and don't hurt her", etc etc.

No, that's not the one. The one I'm talking about is this one:
- Isabela: You and Hawke... something's there, isn't there?
- Merrill: She's so amazing and beautiful. How could anyone not love her?
- Isabela: How could anyone not?
- Merrill: <gasps> It's me. I said something wrong, didn't I?
- Isabela: No, of course not. You could never say anything wrong.
- Isabela: I'm happy for you, Kitten. You've been alone long enough.
The inflection Victoria Kruger gives when Isabela says "How could anyone not?" is what did it.

I mean, as a potential, functional, healthy threesome it seems a lot more plausible to me than, say, the one in Jade Empire that you can actually get as canon. Go for it, Izzy! Don't bow out before you even start!

You know, what hurts most about that line to me is... Merrill adores Isabela, and Hawke may be perfectly capable of handing out love like candy to everyone she meets. Why not give it a shot, right? But Izzy just takes herself out of the running without even trying because she doesn't think she can or should have what she sees between Merrill and Hawke.

I don't think that a polyamorous Hawke is in the cards, if only for resource allocation purposes (two lovers out of a possible four is six different combinations. Two out of five is ten.). That said, if Isabela was someone else, I might see it happen. But Isabela's keeping herself in character by backing off; she's always tried to say it's just for fun, and that there shouldn't be any feelings involved because they get complicated. In her head, she's probably seeing that Merrill needs someone, and she herself clearly doesn't, so why not step aside? Just like she convinced herself it was a good idea to run off with the tome and convinced herself that it was a good idea hiding from the Qunari, she probably had an easy time of convincing herself that she should step aside, because it isn't what she "wants" and clearly Merrill does. Remember, that the main decision happens before the Qunari attack too, so there's no grand romantic gesture at that point; it's still just the two of them feeling each other out (hur hur hur).
The tough part about Isabela's romance is convincing her that she wants one.

@Derengard - As for Isabela being afraid for her own life without possession of the tome, I think that may be an area that wasn't explored fully in the game. This correlates with Isabela's confrontation with Castillon. Why let him live when she is so very much against slavers and slavery? In-game it's handled with the "he needs to tell everyone that I bested him" line (poor paraphrasing - apologies) but clearly there is more to it.
The way I saw it was that Castillon had a far greater influence over Isabela's life than was revealed. He is probably much more ruthless and has much more power than we realize. Not giving him the tome might mean Isabela would be forever sleeping with one eye open. Killing him may amount to the same thing as vengeance would be wrought upon her by his partners or successors.
Act 2 Isabela is still very selfish, but she's on the cusp of maturing, shifting her priorities - seeing the bigger picture and the greater good. Which is why she returns.
That's the way I look at it at least, for what it's worth.
EDIT: Removed a mistake with the timeline.
Isabela's dealings with Castillion annoyed me because of the lack of narrative. I felt that in general, the game stumbled in a few places by not making the motivations of characters more explicit or more prominent.

I can only hope that a future DLC will dive more into this area of the narrative, much in the way that Legacy added some body to Hawke's story. Of course that just may be a selfish desire on my part for more Isabela.

I would love it if they addressed those aspects. I thought they did a decent job of building him up to be a scary dude in the first two acts, but (like several other aspects) fumbled it in act 3.

Yes, but that's exactly why it's so sad.
I think the thing about Castillon's ship is his crew. If he hands over the ship legally (well, "legally") then he goes back to the docks, fires his crew, and tells the harbormaster to let Isabela come and go as she pleases. If he dies, Isabela can't exactly just march up the plank and tell the bosun to hoist the mainsail.
Though I always figure that with him dead, there's a decent chance it's still waiting in the dock and you can steal it anyway when fleeing the Templars, if you do her quest close enough to Last Straw. If you don't mind mustard fabric
