Less talk about shanking Anders, more talk about kissing.

The murder knife way. Marcus didn't get along with Anders. He only had eyes for Fenris.

After thinking a bit about that 'why didn't Isabela seduce Hawke during the 3 year gap', I got to thinking about something else.

What sort of situation do you see Isabela and your Hawke having their first kiss? Would it be followed by the sex? Would it be a teasing temptation of things to come? When do you think it happened, and what were the circumstances?

There's no 'right' answer to this, it's just a question about your headcanon.

Isabela and Hawke's first kiss.

Well in my headcanon, the sex came very soon after their meeting, as in Hawke took Isabela up on her offer probably after following her back to the Hanged Man after a quest. So I guess that means Hawke would initiate the first kiss and start the casual relationship that continues till Act 2.

So I view Isabela's turning up to the estate as the first time she seeks Hawke out, normally Hawke would have to go to the Hanged Man or they'd steal moments wherever they could. And knowing how much Isabela dislikes Hightown, it probably prompted Hawke to be more passionate and I guess giving that time (hence "That was...thank you...") and also prompted her to ask about feelings.

I figure main!Hawke would have spent a few months feeling her out and trying to decide if the attraction was worth the risk to a good friendship, and then made the first move herself either right before or right after the Deep Roads. If Izzy actually made her laugh when she was either fighting with Beth (after telling her she couldn't come) or had just lost Beth (after Cullen abducted her), that would be the last proof she needed to know she needed this woman, and she'd have jumped her right there - partly out of affection, and partly out of trust that Isabela could make her feel better.

I do like the idea of Isabela not wanting to come to Hawke in Hightown, and that being what made the canon hookup a special one.

I've forgotten which Hawke I romanced Isabela with. I believe snarky warrior Hawke would kiss her after a long night of slaying street gangs. She'd want to celebrate killing the leader with high fives and kisses.

Diplomatic mage Hawke would probably flirt with Isabela but wait for her to initiate anything physical. So the question would be, if Hawke were receptive, when would Isabela kiss her?

I always view Hawke and Isabela as mostly just flirting with each other throughout Act 1 and the 3 years afterward, with an actual relationship not actually starting up until Isabela shows up in Hawke's Estate in Act 2.

One thing that I don't love in Isabela- she isn't really pirate. If someone read about woman pirates like Ann Bonny, they will understand that they are bloodlusty and strong woman. Ann love sex, yes, but Isabela only talk about it, I really don't understand how she can survives so long. .

Right.  Because when you meet her both in Origins and DA2 she wasn't like...beating the everloving crap out of a bunch of guys or anything like that.  My DA:O rogue must have learned the duelist specialization from some other swashbuckling lady pirate or something.

Isabela can easily hold her own.

Sorry guys, I couldn't help myself and fed it.

Beat, but not kill. Ann Bonny kill for smaller things. All pirasets must be bloodlusty.

In my interpretation of the first kiss, it goes back to why Hawke is different from the others Isabela's been with in the past. I imagined that over the course of those 3 years, Hawke and Isabela got to know each other. They were friends, they flirted, they enjoyed each others' company. Isabela may have attempted seduction, but been gently rebuffed (i.e. Hawke played hard to get). They still spent lots of time together though, doing missions, going on quests, and trying to find the relic.

One night after sharing stories about their dreams for the future and a fine bottle of Antivan brandy, the mood was just right. The atmosphere was warm and comfortable, and they were both smiling and laughing, and more than a little bit tipsy. Hawke started to lean in, buoyed by the flirtation and alcohol. Isabela took the cue to rush full speed ahead, and tried to meet Hawke halfway, with her tongue partially extended. However, Hawke stopped Isabela before it could finish, and instead cupped the pirate's cheek with her palm. She leaned in the rest of the way, and gave the pirate a gentle kiss. No tongue, just lips and emotion. Then she laughed, and bid the buccaneer a good night. The pirate was stunned for a bit, but as Hawke left the room, Isabela slowly smiled a small smile and touched her lips with her fingertips while glancing at the doorway.

That's my headcanon anyway.

For me the first kiss would have come shortly before the Isabela shows up at the estate in Act 2.
I've always seen it as Isabela being the one resisting as didn't want to mix business and pleasure. Finally after a few drinks they share a kiss after which Isabela pulls away from. She goes away and decides the best way to deal with the sexual tension between them is face up to it.

Ann Bonny is a pirate, but not all pirates are Ann Bonny. Everyone do things in a different way, that's also true of pirates.

That's a very romantic scene for a first kiss. I like it.

Not sure about mine since I never really thought about it. Would definitely happen in Act 2, most likely during one of Isabela's searches for the Relic or during a night of drinking and card games at the Pearl.

Fiona's first kiss with Izzy was right to the point, two weeks of flirting, teasing and more flirting in Izzys room. Fiona just decided to kiss Izzy which gave Izzy a pause, then she kissed back since Izzy was not sure Fiona would be that interested in her with all the crap that was going on. She was wrong.

Heh. There's an interesting question. Like Master Shiori, I'm impressed by the romanticism of Hooray's scenario. I do really like the dynamic of a very caring, romantic Hawke and a slightly baffled fun-loving Izzy. And I've seen some good fic that takes the exact opposite tack, with Hawke every bit as in denial of the impending true love as Isabela, someone who's just as wild and carefree and mercenary. Seems like most people have a preferred relationship, somewhere along that scale.

Myself, I like something a bit in the middle the best. Main!Hawke is every bit the flirty, goofy troll that Izzy is, nearly as good at cheating at cards, even better at winning an argument, and I like to picture the two of them bonding over merrilly pranking everyone else in the party on a regular basis. She probably does have at least one romantic bone in her body, but it's gotta be one of those tiny ones in her inner ear; her relationship with Izzy was about fun, friends-with-benefits sex from the start. But she's also got that compassionate fix-the-world streak that subtly inspires Izzy to be a better person, and she knows she's in love from pretty early on (she's just good at hiding it, because she doesn't ever expect it to be requited).

Or if there isn't, Oghren himself is happy to rectify that. (Provided you're a moderately attractive woman, I suppose, or he's really drunk.)

I thought about that, and the Hawke I write tends to be clever and smart as a whip. I don't think of my Hawke as being purely romantic, but more of a "Let's do something to keep Isabela on her toes". In my mind, they're alike in many aspects - they both value personal freedom greatly, they both have a snarky streak a mile wide, and they both enjoy having fun physically and mentally. The difference lies in how they approach the relationship. Isabela and Hawke are initially attracted to the qualities they share (and for certain, there are many). But there's also some major differences between them, and that's where the interesting bits come up.

In my head canon, Isabela's situation is that she's confused. She's comfortable with her old life, and her old outlook, but the new feeling of comfort and fun with Hawke is both foreign and exciting to her. She's afraid of it but still inexorably drawn to it, and that scares her. She doesn't want to face it directly, because she knows her normal response would be to run, but she finds herself feeling more and more comfortable with aspects of it as time passes (which also scares her... it's a vicious cycle), and it finally comes to a head at the end of Act 2 when she does run from it, comes back, then runs from it again. Eventually, she finally realizes that, for better or worse, she does value it too much to give it up (it does take her a while to come to this realization though). After that, it's just a question of accepting how she feels and admitting it bit by bit.

My Hawke cares for Isabela a great deal, and her greatest fear is doing something that would scare the pirate away. She's more than willing to take what she can get, because she *knows* Isabela isn't the type who easily gives in to feelings, but she hopes for it anyway. There are brief flashes that encourages her to keep going, and she's still having a great deal of fun with Isabela in the meantime, so she takes it one day at a time, hoping for more but settling for (and enjoying) what she can get. For her, it's seizing the day: giving what she can, taking what she can, and enjoying the moment as much as she can.

Plus the sex is great. Can't forget that part. :wizard:

Actually, the sex is so good that it mind wipes you. Hawke and Isabela are constantly waking up in bed with no memory of the previous night, but they always assume it's because they drank so much.
