I'm going with Mal/Han influence with Inara's sexually liberated attitude.
Definitely Mal/Han. Not so much the Inara, because I find her extremely dull. I almost want to say there's a bit of Zoe in there, because I love Zoe , but I can't. That would be deliberately misleading. Zoe is very much the military woman who takes orders and carries them out well and Isabela is... not.
Zoe and Sten staring competition. Go.
No wait, this is the Isabela thread.
Actually, I'm wondering if there have been any memorable women characters in the vein of Mal or Han Solo. Which would mean I'd have to find a way to describe those two and then see if that applies to any other characters. Roguish. Brash. Charming. Cynical. They're your bad boys that girls like because they're not really bad.
I know we were only talking influences, but it does make me wonder about Isabela being an analogue to those type of characters. Or if gender brings certain perceptions to that type of character that people really can't visualize a woman counterpart to Han Solo.
I guess Scully doesn't count - too cerebral...hmm. Assorted incarnations of La Femme Nikita...nah, I don't think they quite have the required combination of Han/Mal characteristics. Wait, FIONA from
Burn Notice!!! She's brash, bold, clever, charming and is certainly cynical (in my opinion). She also likes weapons and blowing things up, and she thinks quickly on her feet (admittedly I don't think the last season of
Burn Notice was the best, but hey it still has Jeffrey Donovan *drools over J.D.* and Bruce Campbell!).
I think there are a lot of female tv characters who kick butt on the same level as Han and Mal, but they usually don't really share a lot of Han/Mal characteristics. I'll stick to my choice of Fiona. Oh wait, why didn't I think of this before!!!! I think Starbuck (katee Sackoff) on BSG sort of fits the mol
