Is this the type of thing that the high level designers track on forums and perhaps via the event tracking in a game?
Perhaps this is a question for the writers and Mike.

Jack sparrow is awesome. He says something really simple and it's funny.
Jack: "Is the jar of dirt going to help?"
Other weird girl: *Glares* "If you don't want it, give it back."
Jack: "No!"
lol will isabela have a jar of dirt?
I think she'll have a jar of dirt. Can't be a pirate without a jar of dirt!
Isabela: "I have a jar of dirt, and guess what's inside it!"
Varric: "Dirt?"
Hawke: *Facepalm*
now i can't get the image of isabela singing this out of my mind.
Should of replaced the Destinys trailor, with this. Except instead of Jack Sparrow we've got Isabela!
I understand why they didn't do it though. People's eyes would burn with excitement.

So this leads to a question then. You said Mike informed you that she was going to make a reappearance. Are these type of decisions made in high level design meetings? Does David as the lead writer and the other writers get a decent say in this process when throwing ideas around? I would think that the writers would perhaps have a better feel for future development of possible characters then just a design team.
The writers are part of the design team (at least the story part of the design anyway). We do get some say in who comes back. For instance, if I had strong feelings about certain people not coming back because their story is done (or they're dead, or something), I'd voice that opinion. David and Mike have the last say though.

a bit-off topic but who wrote dworkin the mad (bomb-obsessed dwarf in awakening and a pretty funny guy to listen to)? i'm asking because it could be cool if you help with his research, isabela could then use it to upgrade her ship's weaponry...lyrium cannons anyone ?

Hmm. So Hawke's love interest is the sloppy seconds of Zevran, the Grey Warden, AND Leliana. Lovely.

Well, I guess it's okay. I had female characters who romanced Zevran and his sexual history is probably even more checkered than Isabella's.

Nope, sorry, the dwarven transvestite is not making a reappearance.
That we know of.

Of the four love interests in DA, two had a history of killing their lovers, and one was trained to someday do so.
The question is: How many of Isabela's ex's are eating dirt sandwiches?

They did it for different reasons at least. Leliana seduced people because it made it easy to get close to them to strike. Zevran was just like "Hey, I'm gonna kill them anyway...might as well

Don't be so lazy and actually read the billion and one pages that have already cried out in despair what you have just stated.

i would call that being skanks rather then "killing lovers"
i mean leliana like seducing men it was "her prefered choice"
and zevran just slept with them for the sake of it

it would be interesting if isabela was the one who hired the antivan crows to assassinate her husband (who was killed by zevran)
wasn't she sleeping around with Zevran?
she says "For Old Times Sake" to Zevran.

Leliana actually says she preferred to the use the promise of sex to actually having sex. Make of that what you will. Not saying she didn't have sex with them but it sounds like she usually tried to avoid it.
i think she was trying to butter up what she did, because she enjoyed exploiting her targets and she says she enjoyed playing with the men she stole from.
i enjoyed talking to isabela in the pearl she seemed to take nothing serious, be a nice change from having Leliana and Morrigan disapproving of everything.

This is what happened:
Long, long ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth, and DAO was still in development...
David: (paraphrased) Hey, Sheryl, we need you to write a character to give the PC the duelist class. Doesn't have to be long, just make it interesting.
(Discussion ensues... 99% of which I have completely forgotten.)
Sheryl: (paraphrased) I'll make her a pirate!
David: (paraphrased) Sure, whatever.
Later on, during one of the caffeine and sugar-fueled writer lunches...
Sheryl: I thought it would be neat to give the player the option of sleeping with her to earn the specialization, instead of having to play the game.
Someone else: What about if you're in a relationship with one of your followers?
Sheryl: Maybe they won't let you?
Someone else: Or they could just join in!
Sheryl: Oghren's head would explode.
Everyone else: It would, wouldn't it?
(Discussion ensues: How exactly would Oghren's head explode?)
Sheryl: This will be funny. People won't see it as Isabela's defining characteristic or anything!
(Ah, idealism.)
Fast foward. DA2 is now in development...
Mike: ....aaaaand Isabela is coming back!
Sheryl:Really!? Oooh! Me me... let me write her!

I also think the threesome/foursome thing from DA:O is taken far too seriously, as if it were canon. To me, it was more of an easter egg for the immature gamers we are (I don't remember the Pearl being obligatory in order to finish the game). Would you say waking up with two nugs in your bed really broke your RP ? I think at that point, one gets it that it's just the developers trying to have some fun ; you forget about the intrigue for a minute and play along ; the fourth wall is broken. The very fact that prude Alistair could be part of the threesome/foursome IMO shows that it was never meant to be taken so seriously.
Also, the very way we encounter Isabela (if I remember correctly, she duels a guy and has a bunch of others fleeing) shows that she is a determined woman, and probably not that easy. When YOUR warden hints at sex, she says something like "now you've piqued my interest", showing that she is probably choosy, though definitely liberated.
To me, it was quite obvious since my first playthrough that the reason she hangs out at the Pearl in the first place is because she's a sailor, a "tough girl", who likes confrontation and is not afraid of getting picked on by some men since she can clearly defend herself ; not because she's a prostitute at heart. Of all the hangouts in Denerim, apart from the port, the Pearl sounds like the most appropriate for a buccaneer such as herself looking for action (in a non-sexual sense).
As for the romance side, Oghren, who seems pretty naughty himself and has a penchant for shady establishments turns out to be the biggest sweetheart once his personal quest is active (and when searching desperately for Branka), so how could something acceptable for a male character be sacrilegious for a female character anyway ?
He he ! I KNEW about the threesome/foursome being mostly a joke

So she's back.
Now I'm wondering it Bioware's going to take it up a notch; perhaps a love triangle? Or should I say a loving triangle?
