Wow, so, if the writers created a character who looked like Velanna, yet called her Morrigan, that would BE Morrigan?  If they put a horned Qunari in front of you and call him Sten, then he's Sten?

Despite the fact your examples are a reduction to the absurd, the answer is yes.  It's their story and their characters.

No, sorry.  I am entitled to my opinion.  They liked the concept of the Isabela character, so they "recreated" it in DA2 - with a new body, face, taste in clothes, etc.

It's totally unjustifiable.  You are lying to yourself if you refuse to accept it is Isabela.

What does that particular metaphor have to do with this at all?

What does that metaphor have to do with anything?  Well, if you can't see that, I guess we have nothing to discuss.

Buy into their propoganda if you like.  They screwed the pooch on this, and I'm going to keep seeing it that way, no matter how many times you say I'm wrong, or invalid, or not entitled to do so.

A wolf in sheeps' clothing is something that is deceptively dangerous.  How does the metaphor apply?

You don't seem to understand how fiction works.

Actors and actresses are recast to play the same role all of the time, especially when roles are expanded.  This is no different.

This time with a slightly intoxicated and somewhat wary young Zevran... (dressing as a pirate).

I hope it doesn't count as spamming.

Anyway, I'm hoping the Isabela romance has some drama but not like Morrigan drama. She seems loyal or to lazy to betray hawke. Maybe there will be a conflict of interest. Hawke or her crew, choices like that make BW games great.

I'm so glad to see Isabela and her new look is awesome, but sometimes I wonder if it would of been beteer just to make a new companion.  It's like she is Isabela but isn't, anyone see what I'm saying?

I'm past wondering that, and convinced it would have been better.

The narrative continuity is what matters.  She's still Isabela the Rivaini pirate who was at the Pearl who is a duelist and pirate who as a hedonistic outlook towards life.

That's your opinion, and you're entitled to it.

My opinion is, it's NOT the same character, but a different one with a similar personality.
And as for her personality, we'll see in game how much like the old Isabela she is, or if she references meeting the warden, etc.

We know almost nothing about Isabela's personality or history in any case. Especially at this jucture. And especially nothing to lead us to believe that they have made significant changes to the original character.

I believe the reason they brought her back was simply because they loved the original character and wanted a chance for additional exposition and story with her as the center. After all, all we really know about her is that she values skill over power, cunning over strength and is the Captain of a pirate ship minus a few other superfluous facts. That is barely anything and has very little to do with her core personality.

She was a fringe character in DA:O that the writters wanted to bring into the spot light. So they did. Had they created an entirely new character there would be just as many people complaining about how many pirate queens there were in Dragon Age and why didn't they just stick with the original?

Sure, some people would have prefered an entirely new character... but the fact is that we know so little about Isabela that she might as well be entirely new...

Just watched this a couple times.

She makes me so happy ;~; I would loan her the King of Fereldan for extramarital maritime sexcapades any day of the week. Booty call my Cousland's hubby? No prob. I can't remember if I actually got this in-game. :(

I wonder if her new VA can pull off that saucy "delicious." Or if she has the opportunity to say delicious.

Totally does. In my perfect world, Alistair's cameo would be Hawke walking in them.

Hawke: Isabela!?
Isabela: Wot?
Hawke: Are you in bed with THE KING OF FERELDEN?!
Isabela: You've got eyes, haven't you? Would you like to join us?
Alistair: Not this again.
Hawke: But I thought we were... wait, how did you manage to bed the King of Ferelden?
Isabela: Got a deal worked out with the Queen. How often is it now? She's quite generous with you.
Alistair: Alternating Thursdays, or when she's too busy drawing Varric.
Isabela: Posted Image

I resign myself into being in the extraordinarily small minority that would get a kick out of that.

Lol, I was just joking. If King Alistair gets Isabela, Queen Cousland is getting some of that short stack. Oh yeah.

Oh man, my dwarf totally got herself some of that with Alistair. And like a week after I finished her game they announced pirate lady was Isabela. Pretty much guaranteed I am importing her save first xD

If it's not even brought up, I will be sad. I can come up with a few solid reasons for it to be overlooked, you know, like, the average guy romancing Isabela wouldn't appreciate it if she so much as glanced at Alistair, but... :( Edit: Wait a minute. The average guy doesn't romance Alistair. HOPE IS RESTORED.

She's got to at least give him the once-over. Then he can do his I Don't Know What You're Talking About ™.

I'm tempted to go with my Cousland playthrough first just for that..

In a similar train of thought, I'm hoping we can romance or flirt with Nathaniel early on before he goes back to Ferelden then when he comes back to Kirkwall (maybe there is some sort of Grey Warden business?) we can have some interesting dialogue with him. And to bring it back to the topic, Isabela would get all mockingly jealous and off-handily say something like "Oh, well he doesn't have the same hands as the king of Ferelden or anything."

"Heard much about the new King of Fereldan?"
"Oh yes, he's very talented with his--"
"--wat?"

Don't feel bad.. one of the biggest teases in Awakening is the existance of Nathaniel without any romanceable dialogue to go with him. Same goes for Anders and Sigrun *sigh*
