This may not count as "memorable" and is actually not a fictional character, but when I think of possible influences for Isabela, Julie d'Aubigny instantly springs to mind. Naturally I have no idea how accurate a comparison that is, knowing nothing of the DA2 character. It was just what sprang to mind when trying to picture a brash, roguish, charming woman that is not to be messed with.

Wiki link for those who aren't history or opera buffs.

Being one of those History buffs I can tell you that Julia d'Aubigny was a remarkably interesting individual - actress, opera singer, duelist, rogue, independent woman who spent company with some very important historical figures.  Amusingly, in (at least) one of the "what kind of same sex female love interest would you like?" threads I mentioned La Maupin as an ideal option.  If Isabela does turn out to be a lot like her I shall be very pleased.

I forgot that something not from the japanese can't use the same tropes that those same japanese games do.

Feeling a bit sensitive are we?

I love when people on the internet call people out, then summarily say "u mad" when called on their b.s.

Anyway ,back on topic, I wonder if Bioware is actually not going to make this girl 'tameable', as it were.  Dunno if this was posted earlier as some of the things in this thread are crazy and I've largely ignored it.

Generally the way these things work, you reign these types of people when they fall in love with you.  The free spirit was a free spirit because they fell in love, lost their love, and don't want to be hurt again, so they keep their relationships that way.  But every once in a while, there are people who just have the philosophy marriage is for suckers, and keep open relationships.  The thing is, in real life, people *largely* don't change.  Generally, people who cheat on you before you get married, will cheat on you after you get married.  People who were free spirits when you met them will be free spirits in relationships.

I wonder if we'll ever get a relationship that was never meant to be in a Bioware game.  I can't ever recall them doing this, but I am buying Baldurs Gate soon, so maybe they did it in that game.

That, and I suppose, people would probably get mad, too.  Relationships are often more complicated than you can convey in a video game.

Honestly... I kind of expect something like this to happen in their ME3 title. And DA2 as a matter of fact.

After all, in every Bioware game we have only ever seen the beginning of a relationship... you know, the good parts. Never seeing them advance or eventually fall apart.

As ME3 comes after two previous games where you started relationships as well as being the final chapter I wouldn't be surprised if we got some drama in there.

Personally I think Ash is going to come back, find out about me and Jack, and shoot me in the head. And rightly so.

And DA2 is based over a ten year period.

If you establish a romantic relationship in any of the earlier years then it is definitely going to change as time goes on. The only way this wouldn't happen is if you only finally hooked up with your love in year ten.

Hoping to see this applied to an Isabela romance. Her being a pirate and all, constantly on the move, and a free spirit, which shouldn't change, I would expect some drama from an immatuer Hawke who didn't know what kind of woman he was falling in love with.

Or he's a free spirit too and is cool with it. Who knows.

Can't wait to find out.

Also. Can we get back to me fantasizing about having Isabela as a rival drinking buddy with a thinly veiled competitive lover's angle? I really liked that fantasy.

I actually think that would be a lot of fun - you and Isabela trying to seduce the same love interests and competing with one another for his/her affections.  Or scheming with one another about how to get character X in bed ... or convince them into a threesome.  I'd love to be able to play my Hawke as a total hedonistic rogue with a partner in crime.

Her outfit has too much gray in it if you ask me. Should liven it up a little.

It has too much blue, if you ask me. That, or the rest of the world has too little blue.

Damn pirate lady is stealing all our blue and taking it for herself

I suggest there be an option that we can kill her and restore the colors to the world.  Kind of like Okami except with swords instead of a paint brush.

 I didn't consider that it could have been a deliberate effort on her part to rob the world of all its blues.

Hellz yeah! Too much fun!

But perhaps a bit too much like real life for those of us who like going to bars with our lesbian friends.

Will Isabela end up pregnant end game like Morrigan. I mean 10 years is a long time. her approaching hawke about it would be funny.

Anyway Isabela reminds me of Anne Bonney.  maybe her romance with male hawke willl be like Anne Bonney's affair with John Rackham.  They steal a sloop never to be seen again. lol

No woman can be a pirate and escape that comparison.

But still. I approve.

What bullsh*t? I said I didn't understand using another culture's terminology on a product from our culture.

How does this translate into "Japan sucks and you suck for knowing words from it"?

You haven't called me on anything as you refuse to explain what about my comment was wrong, rude, or upset you. If you actually told me why what I said bothered you, I could respond with something other than a comment about you seeming sensitive.

Instead, you've told me I'm full of BS. Yah, swearing at me after two posts totally convinces me that you're not being emotional or immature.

Morrigan was kind of like that. At least until Witch Hunt, which I haven't played so I can't comment on it.

And people were mad about how the Morrigan romance was resolved, and still are.

For both reasons, I like it a lot.

I'm pretty sure there's enough blue in the game to go around. The blue in her outfit bugs me too, but that's because I just don't like blue all that much, especially with white. Unfortunate bias :(

It bugs me a bit because she seems to be mostly "warm" colours (the gold bits, skin tone, the eyes, lip colour, hair, leather boots) and the neutral white, but blue is "cool" colour and feels to clash with that.

Maybe it's on purpose but other characters don't share that and she winds up bit odd as result of that.

The designer probably thought Isabela looked "too" warm so he/she decided adding a bit of blue. Warm and cool colors don't clash especially if one set is more dominant than the other. In Isabela's case, she's mostly warm and hot. Rawr...

I don't necessarily see the warm/cool contrast as a problem. What puzzled me was that I was seeing a pattern of most costumes hitting this red-yellow-green-blue scheme to various degrees (different shades and tones of those colors of course, no crayola colors) and then all of the sudden... blue-yellow-white-dull brown. She probably looks excellent in a cast lineup and I'm sure the pattern doesn't carry over across all other characters but as of what we've seen it feels like she's missing a color or something.

I know many people dislike the look of Prince of Persia 4, but I think the use of color for the main character is nice. Mostly neutral but then the head wrap with the bright blue/red and lots of movement.

I think it's important to ask of a character not just 'does it look good' but 'does it fit who this character is?'

I just don't see how blue, gold and white clash with her "brownish" boots.  Everything looks in harmony to my eyes. Oh well, perception is an individual matter.

Disagreed on the first part! Prince of Persia 4 is awesome and has one of the most interesting art styles of the last years.

Agreed on the second part

And i think it is a wanted effect by the art department to create a contrast and to emphasize the character from other and out of the back of a scene. On the other hand it matcher her style. IMO Isabela is person that wants to create attantion and this contrast in colours is one way to do it.

People are arguing about colors again?

And after they ridicule people who complain about appearances.

If someone claimed they wouldn't want to romance Isabela because she wears blue, we'd ridicule them too.

@Maria: I LOOOOOVED that Prince, designwise.

@The_One: No arguing going on here, just observing The Blue. "I find this unusual and here's why" is different from "she's disgusting."

I refuse to romance any character without at least one article of clothing in fuschia.

Okay, seriously now, Isabela's coloring is okay to me. As a matter of personal taste I am drawn to extremes. The blue waist cloth adds character to her outfit. Many fictional characters wear a piece of clothing, have a tattoo, scar, or other slight imperfection to set them a little apart from everyone else. It is likely Isabela's waist cloth fits this criteria; particularly if her clothes represent a dominant fashion of areas she frequents.

You're applying your own tone. You shouldn't do that as it can easily put words in people's mouths. Some have said "she's disgusting." Myself, and someothers have simply said "I find her unnatractive and here's why." Does that sound familiar?
