PLOT HOLE

That's not what a plot hole is...

In fact, it's so way off from what one is that someone might as well have posted a picture of a fire truck and your reply was "MOO COW!"

Okay, I've been looking around for a theme song for Isabella. I was thinking something adventerous and exotic. I decided on a particular song from my Ipod, not sure how enjoyable it is, and it might not fit everyones tastes, but it seems to fit her character, so...

How about this one?

Kinda looks like her too, except with blonde hair. :P

Or this?

Her personality is probably going to be great though.

reposting this, this is what i asked sheryl in terms of her personality.

me: Out of curiosity, was it challenging to write for isabela even though it must have been fun as heck?

Sheryl:Not really. She has a very assertive personality that she likes to beat me over the head with. So it's easy to know what she's going to do in almost all situations.

me:i imagine her as a double crosser to her clients but loyal to her friends and crew, is that a fair assessment of her personality/behaviour?

Sheryl:Hmmmm... sort of? I can say she's unpredictable and doesn't make friends easily.

me:well apparently she gets along with varric XD who wouldn't anyway?

Sheryl:Oh, yeah, she gets along with everyone, and she's friendly, but that could be on the surface, no?

me:hmm....interesting so maybe is she putting on a friendly mask while on the inside she's very manipulative?

Sheryl:I wouldn't say manipulative really. Manipulation requires planning, and Isabela doesn't think longterm.

me:oh so she's more impulsive then, good to know.
like a "live for the moment" type of character i'm guessing.

Sheryl:That's a good description.

me:that must be why her crew loves her so much, they never get a dull moment so the fun never stops.

Sheryl:Hehe, you could say that.

Ooh, I like it!

why do i see a port side bar as the setting for this music featuring isabela in it?

Isabela's theme song? I think I have it.
Chevelle - Saferwaters

Chorus:

Our world is calling
So I'm crawling back to sea
Against the surge of waves that
Held us, with that ancient grip beneath
Retreat to saferwaters

Sounds fitting to me since we know next to nothing about her.

Its pandering to the fans of DA:O because it is a very minor character.  It is someone of no consequence who the players would not know of unless they played the first game.  At this stage because there is very little to know about the character from the interactions within DA:O, she exists as this in DA 2 purely as a reference.  A possibly "Oh thats cool moment"

Is it pandering if this conversation, or something close to it, happened in the writer's room:

Writer 1: "And so Hawke makes his way to Denerim, only days before the Darkspawn Horde descends upon the capitol city."
Writer 2: "Why do you always have to embellish when we're just talking?  Why not say 'just in time' ?"
Writer 1: "..."
Writer 2: "Whatever.  Anyway, we can have the player try and frantically get some transport out of there, but almost everyone has already bailed."
Writer 3: "Well, running on land is probably getting tiresome and they're gonna be getting to the Free Marches anyway.  Why not hire a boat?"
Writer 1: "We're gonna have to write a ship and crew for that, though."
Writer 2: "They could hire Isabela's ship.  She's probably still fighting drunks in the Pearl. They can pay her half now and half when they reach Alderaan Kirkwall."
Writer 1: "You might be on to something."

I don't expect it went down like that, but I do think it's closer to the truth than "Hey lets put Isabela in DA:2 our fans will think it is cool."

I suspect it's similar. I've always thought Isabela was a convenient character to use for transport (she does own a ship after all) and I'm glad they have decided to add onto that role. She probably started off as a plot device and then Sheryl got excited and the writers were like: "Ok, she can come to the Free Marches too, but only if you promise to feed her and buy her more clothes."

Also, I just wanted to say, I like all of your Star Wars references today, Shorts.

I'm too used to the ME forums...

There it would be a Plot Hole of epic proportions.

I find Isabela intriguing, it's just her appreance change that bothers me. Oh well, I'll get over it eventually. It still doesn't make it ok in my book.

I wonder if you can turn her evil?

According to my understanding Hawke left Lothering while he was a teenager. If so, there should be a huge age gap between Hawke and Isabela. Can someone please confirm this or is my understanding incorrect?

No way is he a teenager if the way he looks is anything to go by. Plus Bethany looks like she's in her early 20's and Hawke is older. So I'd peg him around 25-30 at the beginning.

Even if he were a teenager, why would that effect his ability to have a relationship with Isabela?

i think it's less as to turn her evil as it's more to making her understand your evil decisions

I really don't see an "evil" option for DA2, as there were none in DA:O for example. It could be possible to "harden" or something like that, though she seems experienced enough in the world that Hawke saying "Sup." wouldn't change much.

About him taking Isabelás ship, isn't it the rumor that they're leaving through Gwaren and not Denerim?

See? This does cause confusion

No idea.  It could even be "Isabela had left Denerim and was in Gwaren by the time Hawke got there."  Like I said, we don't actually know what the connection is so trying to evaluate it is impossible.  We only know it exists, not anything else about it.

That's be cool too.  Though then the Age of Sail nerd in me wonders if she commands a galley or a ship-rigged vessel.  A galley would seem to fit in more with the technology of the era, but magic sort of puts everything into question.

Hell. We don't even know when the Warden met with Isabela, it could've been at the very start of the Blight or at the end. We know that Hawke is fleeing around the time Lothering is burning, meaning the Warden completed "one" recruitment - so that throws a few odd things in the mix. Especially considering if you wait until after the Landsmeet to meet up with her.
