Someone didn't like Romeo and Juliet....
It's a love story. It's supposed to be grandiose. I would never look upon something like that as romantic in real life.

And you're supposed to think of her as a real person, not just a tool. A well-written character is as real as life.

I don't think it's romantic. It's tragic.

Actually, one of the strongest female characters in the game is one of the most universally hated. I'm gonna have people guess who I mean! This will be fun.

Anora?

Ding ding!

I remember defending her actions a bunch on GameFAQs before I came over here.  I wonder if I can find the thread.

LOL

True she is stronger but I always felt her letting her dad steamroll over her kind of made me *meh*

Now that Orlesian Queen on the other hand...

I don't hate Anora, by the way. In fact, I quite like her.

Wow... in a group otherwise composed of women I seem to be the only hopeless romantic....

In other news.... she takes your cues, yes, because otherwise the player can't direct the development of things. You decide if Alistair becomes a capable king or not as well if you take it the other way. I don't think that she just does what you say. She asks your opinion and then makes her own decision. In the story. In the gameplay, you the player set the cues that thell the story how to progress. So you make the decisions. But the Warden only makes suggestions.

I'd say Flemeth is by far the strongest female character in the setting. Whichever way you look at it.

EDIT: Assuming she's indeed female.

I think you shouldn't because I'll eternally look upon you with the revulsion I have of one of those...Anora people.

She's strong, I'll agree, but it doesn't make me like her. Similarly, I dislike Wynne.

He had the army.  Plus at first I doubt she was going to challenge her father's interpretation of events, and even by the time she might, her position was untenable and she had to seek out the Warden.

Oh I don't like her.   I just think a lot of the complaints on the GameFAQs boards made no sense.

Anyway, here's my thread.  My username is tdpats12.  Keep in mind my understanding of Dragon Age's lore was far less compherensive then - I hadn't even played Return to Ostagar I don't think - and I still haven't read any of the books.

Pffffffft. I don't see any strength at all in willing to manipulate and backstab people at the drop of a hat. If she was really so strong she would have readily agreed to marrying Alistair to cement her possition and secure a "good reliable leader for Ferelden."

"All-powerful" doesn't always translate as "strong" (in the characteristic sense) to me, in the same way that a person isn't brave if they have no fear. The presence of fear defines courage, not the lack thereof. Flemeth has essentially no resistence and she's the most powerful being we know of on Thedas.

Sure she would, read my thread I posted a link to in an edit.  I don't want to sidetrack the Isabela thread further with Anora talk, but that GameFAQs one went on for 12 pages.  So I pretty much put my arguments there.

I can respect anyone who uses the tools at their disposal to advance their agenda as "strong."  Anora's not some warrior, she's a politician.  Backstabbing is part of her arsenal.  She's more of a realpolitik person than the conniving Howe, though.

Hate for Anora is just.. oversimplifying how most people feel about her. It's similar to Loghain. You may disagree strongly with their actions or viewpoints but you can't deny they are strong characters who think they are doing the right thing for Ferelden and for themselves. I neither dislike nor like either of them but I respect them a great deal. If that makes sense.

I don't know what they said over there, but being willing to betray anyone for the sake of some ideal is not strength. On top of which she is presented with an outcome that is strictly speaking ideal for all and still gives her what she wants, and then she still backstabs you. Not wise in the slightest.

I like to believe that Anora died a horrible horrible death in the tower prison when the darkspawn invaded Denerim.

Fair point there. But she's well controlled considering her power. I didn't mean to suggest her power as the source of her strength anyhow.
