If you're talking about the necklaces they all wear, it's to hide the seam between their head and bodies. All DA and ME characters have this, which is why they all wear something over their necks. Even the Mother.

Thanks so much for pointing that out about The Mother Saibh. <_<  You know I had to check it out to satisfy my curiousity, had to recall why I always skip her cutscenes.

It's too bad amulets don't have visible models to replace the generic neckline coverings. (or add to them, at least)

At least they sort of justify it with the lore.. like the Warden pendant that Alistair gives the Warden after the Joining and what not.

When I originally saw all of the necklaces, I assumed it was a companion thing that the Warden did for them. "Join now and receive complimentary necklace!" sort of deal. Then I noticed all the naked fellows had them too, the poseurs.

But only women get the dangly pendant hanging from the thong. The men just have a silver clasp in the front. Not to mention you can take off your Warden's necklace.

We've gone from discussing Isabela to discussing vibrating marble phalluses. Only on the Bioware forums...

Oh I assure you the entire internet is like this.

I remember making a "Glove of Fisting +3" with penetration damage in the NWN toolset for the sole purpose of using a screenshot of it in a one-time joke with a friend in an AIM convo.

Yes, what will the Devs think when they read all this. Probably that we're all depraved or something. One can only wonder, until they tell us.

I'm sure this question has been asked and answered already, but I'm curious: what is the rationale behind making Isabela... well, Isabela? What have the devs said about it? It's not that I mind, or anything like that: it just seems like a strange decision. One that must have an interesting story behind it.

Isabela was a cool but very minor character in DA:O. Nothing more than that.

Given her positive reception, I can understand thinking: "People liked Isabela, so lets introduce a similiar character as a companion in DA2" but not "people liked Isabela, so lets reintroduce her as a companion in DA2... with a new appearance and voice actress".

I guess don't see the point. The vast majority of "who" Isabela is, I'm guessing, has been written for DA2 and didn't exist back during the DA:O days... so why not just make it a new character ? Why was it so important for Isabela to be Isabela? Because it must have been important. For some reason.

It can't have all been down to the ties with Zevran (and the possible interaction with the DA:O party), surely?

I laid out my reasons for why she is clearly promiscuous several times. I also stated that I find it odd why the chose her off all people to develop into a romance. Not sure what more I can add other than refer you to my previous posts.

Yes, you have said you find it odd several times. And David has responded to you at least once saying that we've never managed to please everyone with a love interest. Isabela is no different. Don't like her? Fine, don't romance her. In fact, I believe I mentioned that you don't have to talk to her if you don't want to. But coming on here and repeatedly saying that you find our decision to bring her back odd accomplishes... what exactly? We like Isabela and we wanted to explore her character a bit more. Whether you like it or not, she's here to stay.

I don't know if Mike Laidlaw is going to come in here and explain his decision. I think all we know is that the decision was made to bring her back because they liked the idea, and Sheryl Chee wrote her.

We can speculate, sure, and my guess would be that they wanted a female rogue who is sort of a free spirit, and decided to utilize Isabela instead of making a new character. I really don't think it had much at all to do with her DA:O "popularity" as I'm not sure it existed. She was mostly a curiosity and not really much of a fan favorite so to speak.

I understand the new appearance and voice actress - the latter played Anora - as a recognition of her upgrade from generic minor character to unique major character.

Okay, but... look: I certainly don't have any problem with Isabela as a character. I liked the character. I'm not standing here saying, "Gosh, it's odd that they'd bring that godawful character back. Bleh. Who'd want to talk to her? Ew. She's slept with more than one guy. Outrageous."

Like I said, her regeneration does not bother me. No more than Jaheria's portrait changing from BG1 to BG2 bothered me.  I simply want to know what it was about DA:O's Isabela that made her, necessarily, DA2's Isabela.... instead of the-new-Isabela-like-character. Because, given that the vast majority of who she is will have been written for DA2, it's not "exploring her more" so much as... creating her wholesale.

It just seems that there must have been more to the decision. And, again, its intriguing.

I agree, it seems like it'd be interesting.  Or it could be boring.  I'd like to find out one way or the other, sure.

Maybe the reasoning is tied into the narrative and describing the precise thought process behind it would be a spoiler.  Who knows?

The way I see it, she's a link.  A link you carry around with you from DA:O.  She wasn't a major character, but three members of your squad could have been involved with her in some way.  HELL if any of the DA:O characters make a cameo she may have met them or gotten to know them.

There is probably more to it than that, but I imagine the thought process was ways they can link the two games without being too fan servicey, and minor characters in the first one certain provide something to build off of.  Isabela was one of them who was above the average joe schmoe straight off the bat.  She could fight, she had a boat, and she knew an existing character.

That makes some sense.  But then it raises the "Why her instead of <x>?" questions.  My speculation is that the thought process started on the DA:2 end and not on the (who can we bring back from) DA:O end.

However, I think they should have brought back Isolde. The resulting forum explosion would have been so wor.... WHO IS THIS MAN TEAGAN?!

I'm sure the conversation went a lot like:

Writer: So we're going to Kirkwall huh?

Another Writer: Yep. Do we have any useful characters from Origins we could use?

Writer: Well, there was that pirate we used to teach the duelist spec..

Another Writer: Ok, let's keep that on the table. Did anyone else have a ship?

Writer: Not that I remember. But hey, let's do a bit more than just making her an NPC that ferries the PC around. I think Sheryl is bustin to write more about her anyway.

An Artist: Can we redesign her clothes a bit? She should look more piratey.

Another Artist: She should have magnificient boots!

Designer: Make it so!

Yeah, but her ship sank and she's basically hanging out... without a ship.  Maybe we get her another one?  But to go where?  Leave Kirkwall?
